We stayed at the Carter Notch Inn in early May and although the weather was not good, the inn could not have been better. Our innkeepers, Sally and Dick, are welcoming and kind people who made us feel right at home - even if we were the only two at the inn during our stay! During our stay we visited many inns that friends were staying in, and I must say Carter Notch was far and above the best in the area. The inn was absolutely spotless, decorated beautifully and had every touch of home you could want. The gas fireplace was a perfect touch to warm up the cool rainy days. And the food, how delicious! We had apricot stuffed french toast that I will always remember, and scones (real scones, as Sally & Dick are from the UK!). YUM! This place is not to be missed, nor is the town of Jackson. A welcoming town with great people, excellent scenery, and a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, no matter what time of year it is.

I just discovered this site and need to respond to the ONLY negative review posted. We have stayed at the Carter Notch Inn at least five times, and I agree completely with all of the praise bestowed upon this lovely bed and breakfast and its friendly innkeepers, Sally and Dick. I think we were guests when the group of eight was visiting, and I was most impressed with how Dick and Sally not only made my husband and me feel welcome, but how they accommodated the needs of the group. They helped the group set up a slide show in their beautiful diniing room and joined them to view their slides, occasionally checking in with other guests reading and chatting by the fire. (We also visited a little with individuals of the group and felt no friction.) And if noise is discouraged after 11 PM, hooray! I prefer to sleep, arise to eat their delicious and ample breakfast that fuels an entire day of cross-country skiing, hit the beautiful trails, and return to afternoon tea and baked goods by the fire. That's perfection! The setting is classic New England, the house is comfortable and charming, and the innkeepers are most helpful, reasonable, friendly, and warm. We look forward to our return!

As Innkeepers, we are very choosy where we stay, but the Carter Notch Inn is everything we aspire to be and more. Richard and Sally are consumate hosts, charmng gracious and with a wicked sense of humour they have found their true vocation and have elevated the art of innkeeping to almost perfection. Attentive but discreet, friendly but restrained, happy to "visit" but also astute enough to allow you privacy when they sense you may need it - and such lovely interesting warm people. The Inn has one of thiose picture perfect locations that you can only dream of. The rooms are spotless and beautifully appointed and the breakfasts delicious and plentiful. They have thought of everything, from a computer provided in the public area to check your e-mail to complimentarty beverages available 24 hours a day. We hope to be able to visit frequently.....Carter Notch Inn is definitely "our place in New Hampshire, we are so glad we found you :-)

Some weeks back my wife took a short vacation in the White Mountains at the tail end of the skiing season. Our plans were sketchily laid with only a general plan to partake in our once-every-decade foray into cross country skiing, some hiking, sight seeing and the like, with perhaps a day trip to the village of Franconia where I once attended now defunct Franconia College. We arranged to stay at the Carter Notch Inn in Jackson, a bright and lovingly kept B&B comprising a dozen or so distinctive rooms, hosted by British expatriates Dick Greene and Sally Carter. Sally was away during our stay but we were well cared for through the attentions of half the team. Dick prepared varied and pleasing breakfasts each day of our stay including perfect individually tailored omelets and tangy and scrumptious baked goods, always including a special touch such as a small dollop of raspberry sorbet on the artfully cut fresh fruit. Dick took care that our days were full and as structured as we desired, despite our own laissez faire pre-planning efforts. He would phone in advance our various destinations to ensure success, for example calling a popular ski resort to get the full report on snow conditions and the timing and cost of lessons. Dick would assist each morning with maps and sage advice on restaurants, hiking trails and vistas as we plotted the logistics of the day with military precision (again, to the extent desired). Despite our desire to get away, we are, alas, news junkies and desire e-mail contact with children and business associates; the Carter Notch Inn does not disappoint, offering Internet connectivity to guests; Dick was also gracious enough to allow me to burn CDs of my digital photos, freeing space on my flash card for more… The message on coffee mug we brought home proclaims “my other house is in Jackson, NH” -- quite so – Dick is an interesting and engaging talker but is also acutely sensitive to the fine balance of hospitality and proper distance, is attentive without being intrusive. Amusements extend to Old English Sheepdog Henry, a completely disarming presence in the household, who never fails to elicit a grin and an outdoor hot tub to enjoy the song of the birds in the morning or the stars at night.

We have just returned from a DIVINE 2 nite getaway to the Carter Notch Inn. Sally and Dick are friendly, welcoming hosts and their home is beautiful! The room surpassed our expectations, complete with a gas fireplace and a two person jacuzzi. The breakfasts were delicious, the company wonderful. We love visiting the area and hope to get back to this corner of heaven soon.

There is no place more gracious and welcoming! I have stayed at the CNI many times and each time is a real treat for the body and soul. The outdoor hot tub is the best medicine after a day of skiing or hiking. Dick and Sally, the innkeepers, have a gift for making a repeat visit a must!

Stumbled upon this wonderful B&B completely by accident whilst driving around Jackson looking for a place to stay for a few nights.

What a find! Perfect house, wonderful hosts, warm and friendly atmosphere and yummy breakfasts.

Thanks Sally & Dick – we’ll be back (& bring marmite and baked beans along for you next time!!)
