We really enjoyed our stay at Anne's idyllic farm at the end of the paved road. Jackson is close to excellent hiking and restaurants, and the rooms were clean and charming. The farm is very well kept and straight out of a picture book. Anne is welcoming and a great cook. Brad & Susan

These guys are great. These arent five star rooms and meals, but for $100 a night we easily got what we paid for and more.

Where these guys really pull ahead of the pack is in their unprecedented kindness and warmth. Seriously, I stayed for two nights and I feel like these guys are my grandparents. (Not the grandparents who you feel obligated to visit, who pinch your cheeks too hard. These are the grandparents who you beg your parents to see, who keep a well stocked candy bowl.)

The couple's names are Bob and Anne. On our first night Bob spent two hours with us, showing us the various constellations (which were crystal clear, in the nearly city light-free country setting), letting us help feed the pigs, and cows, and searching for shooting stars.

In the morning Bob drove us to Mt Washington to save us cab fare. When we offered to pay him he refused.

Anne fed us in the morning- We asked for omelettes, but she was willing to cook us anything out of her cookbook. After breakfast she gave us a warm scolding for not having traveled safely on the mountain. It was obvious that she cared.

All in all a great find. If you're ever in Jackson, NH, particularly for traversing Mt. Washington, you cant do better than the Windy Hill Bed and Breakfast!

This was a wonderful out of the way find (but not too far out of the way - short distance to Jackson and restaurants) surrounded by fields and mountains - we were told the fall colours were the best they'd been for 10 years ~ which is why we were there. Our hostess (Anne) was a delight - she had a very dry sense of humour (might not be appreciated by all) and made us very welcome, we were told to treat the house as our own. The owner is a working woman running a farm almost single handedly and is also a part time fire fighter so she isn't always on the premises, if she's not she leaves messages on chalk boards so you know what's what, which we found quaint - its also not just here that this happens - if you do B&B's in New England expect the owners not to be in but messages left as a normal way of communication. We loved it here and wished we'd had longer. The food was good and home cooked, we took the candle lit dinner on our second night which was good, our host was off square dancing that evening and we were invited to go along with her. We would highly recommend this establishment to travellers who want to feel as though they were staying with friends in their own homes, would not recommend to those who want the high life with tons of facilities and who like lots of people, distractions and hotel amenities - no room service here - we just loved everything about the place and the people we met.

We spent a wonderful two days at this great B&B. Our room was spacious, comfortable and extremely clean. The view from the bedroom window was truly fantastic, and we enjoyed looking out at the mountains in the morning. We spent the weekend xc-skiing on the local trails, some of which go right through this property. This is a great place to go for those interested in enjoying all the outdoor offerings of the mt. Washington valley. The innkeeper prepared a delicious breakfast and she had lots of information on local restaurants and attractions. Our car did have trouble getting up the driveway, but we have a small car and it was very icy that day.

Had a super 2 nights stay at Windy Hill and loved it!

Totally relaxing, great place to chill out, wonderful views over the mountains and awesome fall colours.

Great contrast from the city and resort hotels and a lovely quiet farmhouse, very peaceful.

Wild turkey in the fields outside and a great experience.

Great home cooked breakfasts from Anne!

Would definitely recommend it!

  • Liked — peace and tranquility
  • Disliked — nothing much but a couple of miles out of town which is also an advantage

If you are looking for a reasonably priced B&B in the White Mountains and want to avoid the maddening crowds and traffic noise of North Conway, we recommend this B&B on a working beef cattle farm at the end of a paved mountain road. The rooms are clean and cheerfully bright. Ann is an excellent cook who allows guests to choose the breakfast for each day from a lengthy menu (based upon length of stay). During our 4 night stay, we enjoyed breakfast with a view of distant mountains and grazing wild turkeys in the field next to house. With advance notice, Ann will prepare "home-cooked" dinners for her guests. We enjoyed two such dinners. One upon our arrival after a long day on the road and one just because we wanted a break from restaurant food which is readily available in the nearby (and charming) town of Jackson.

I spent five perfect days as a Windy Hill guest and loved every aspect and every minute. It compares very favorably with the best B&B facilities my wife and I have ever enjoyed, and we have been to some great ones. There were no other guests during this visit, affording an opportunity to soak up the most compelling and penetrating serenity I've experienced in years. Owner Anne Peterson is a perfect hostess, and being there on a real working farm brought back wonderful memories of my youth when I spent a summer as a hand on a New Hampshire dairy farm. It was great fun to be up close and personal watching and participating in feeding the cattle, a major and happy departure from my normal daily professional life. The barns and haylofts and farm equipment and the vistas and all the attendant country and farm smells added a sensory country delight. Birds and gardens and rolling pastures... perfect! I was happy to maintain contact with my "real" world, as there is wireless computer access throughout the charming house, which is warm and comfortable and lovingly furnished with family heirlooms and antiques. I felt I had passed through a time warp into a Norman Rockwell world of another era. Although my batteries were fully recharged, I was reluctant and saddened when it was time to leave. You won't miss your TV, but you'll enjoy the company of her dog... and everything else. You're going to love Windy Hill. You'll want to return... and I expect you will!
