“We felt so at home!”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We stayed at Inn at Ellis River at the beginning of October 2013. It was our first "inn" experience, and we subsequently stayed at several others as we continued on our New England foliage tour. Inn at Ellis River spoiled us, and none of the other inns lived up to their example. Friendly staff, clean, comfy rooms, room amenities (including bottled water, a huge plus for us!), delicious breakfasts served in a beautiful dining room, afternoon coffee and tea and freshly baked cookies, our room with balcony overlooking the river, I could go on and on! This place made us feel so welcome, and so "at-home." It was warm and inviting in every way. We felt that our every need had been anticipated. In response to a prior review, I must say that we don't expect bathrobes or turndown service. We never use those robes anyway, and we are capable of turning down our own bed! Candles around a hot tub in an historic inn could be disastrous, so we wouldn't expect that either! We loved Inn at Ellis River, would love to return, and would heartily recommend it to anyone! Jackson is a beautiful village, and so close to everything we wanted to see. Thank you for a beautiful experience in your charming inn!

This is a lovely historic inn on the edge of Jackson. We found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful. Our room, Bridal Veil, was on the first floor and very quiet. It was nicely decorated with antiques. However, the room and bathroom were somewhat small. Not a lot of room for two people to move about. But we realize older inns often have small rooms. We enjoyed the private deck and the gas fireplace. The bed had high quality linens and the bath nice thick towels. Breakfast was very good each morning along with the great homemade cookies every afternoon. It was nice being within walking distance of several restaurants. I thought the price of the room was a little high especially compared with the other B&B's we stayed at in Bar Harbor and Saint Andrews.

Thank you for taking the time to review our inn, and for your kind comments. All our rooms are named after White Mountain waterfalls, and the Bridal Veil Falls room is one of our most popular ones.

We loved our third floor room (even with the steep steps), the looks of the old inn, the setting (right by the river), the location (with wonderful hikes and drives), the breakfasts, the quiet, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. We highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: We loved being on the third floor, but I wondered if the second floor rooms that had balconies on th...

We are happy that you enjoyed your stay and the reward of the highest balcony in the inn after climbing the circa 1893 staircases. Some of our second floor balconies face the river, while others overlook the lawn and garden area. Your room has the only third floor balcony, and offers a view of the Ellis River and the hills beyond.

At the end of September my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting Jackson, New Hampshire to attend a wedding. We stayed at the Inn at Ellis River and cannot recommend it enough. The inn is clean and lovely. It sets beside a flowing river and our room had a balcony with sliding doors overlooking the scenery. We had a king-sized bed that my husband remarked about the comfort upon arising. Our bathroom shower had five shower heads making for a terrific shower. We have never enjoyed a better breakfast or service and we have traveled a lot. The place is extremely comfortable and I cannot recommend it enough. We would love to return for a longer stay. It is really a New Hampshire treasure!

We really liked staying here! The garden with the river - and with chairs to relax in the sun if you like. Our room - Champney Falls - was nicely colored in yellow and blue. Everything was clean and nice. Breakfast was delicious - but a piece of cheese would have been lovely. Remember to tell if you have special needs (i.e being a diabetic) - and it will be taken care of as well. As there is no diner serving, we can recommend the Red Fox (1-2 miles away)

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay on your foliage tour. We’ve made a note and we will be sure cheese is on the breakfast menu for you if you return for another visit from your home in Denmark.

Stayed for 2 nights, attentive staff, very good breakfast, our room overlooked the river with a balcony, the mattress on the bed was uneven with a large lump in the middle, proberley time to replace it! Good base for exploring

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and your room with the river view. Our mattresses are all relatively new, so we think what you experienced was two people lying down separately into the fluffy featherbed, which can create a high space in the middle of a king bed as the featherbed conforms around you both. We realize the featherbeds are quite soft, and are happy to remove them if guests prefer a firmer mattress.

My wife and I have stayed at this Inn on 4 different occasions in 4 different rooms. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stays each time especially during the Christmas-time cookie tour. The inn specializes in a great romantic experience for couples. The No kids policy is great. Lynn makes a phenomenal breakfast. Her maple, brown sugar bacon is to die for. We have done the dinner package too at the inn and its was great, just my wife and I. We would've been back for a 5th time this Christmas season but I got injured and won't be vacationing for awhile. This little inn is a gem in the White mountains.
