We had a very positive experience here, and I don't really agree with the negative comments in some of the reviews.....at least it wasn't our experience at all. That being said, it is an old style resort and it's true that the decor is dated and the floors are a little creaky, and there's nothing state of the art about it at all. But we like staying in classic old places and are willing to accept the tradeoffs of staying in old places. The only possible negative I saw is that there's nothing else within walking distance, but you can get anything you need with a 10 or 15 min. drive. Overall, I'd say that it's probably not for everybody, but we had a great time there. One suggestion....we rented a less expensive room and had no view, and it's probably worth spending a little more money and having a view of the valley from your room.

I don't know about the hot tub or exercise room.....we didn't use them.

The veranda is a great place to hang out in warm weather. They serve food in the dining section of the veranda.

The staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful.

Btw, if you're into mountain biking, the Great Glen facility (10 mi. away) has beautiful mountain biking trails and reasonable rental prices. This hotel has coupons available that will give you a discount at Great Glen.

We have stayed here close to a dozen times and my husband was treated very poorly. We arrived to be told our reservation had been canceled. Which was not by us. They were very rude about the whole situation. We still stayed because they had a room for us but this is likely our last visit after treatment like that. Which is too bad because the rooms are quaint and the breakfast is awesome.

This place was extremely musty and in need of repairs. The rooms were dated and dingy. I couldn't get past the smell. The exercise room had 1 exercise bike in it. The hot tub was disgusting. We cut our vacation short and couldn't wait to leave this place. The porch was the best place to be. I wouldn't even attempt to order food from the restaurant. Run away.. The staff was not accommodating, at all. We wanted to check out early and they tried to give us a gift certificate to come. No way. I told the manager we couldn't smell musty in the pictures. It was terrible.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

We stayed here again this year because we just fell in love with it last year. This year we had room 303 which was called a mountain view one room suite. Keep in mind there are 2 room suites which we had last year which has a queen bed in a bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. This room, the one room was everything in one large room with a ton of space. They will accommodate a rollaway in both room types so the room would definitely sleep a family of four comfortably. Our room was a corner room so there were a ton of windows including in the bathroom which was also humorous, (the bathroom last year was tiny) Tip-getting the rollaway to fit takes some creativity,we moved the coffee table into the bathroom,it can also be put into the closet(BTW there were two as well as an armoire with hanging space.) The hotel seemed to have replaced the ugly tube TVs with nice new flat screens. Although we rarely watch TV in hotels, the flat screen just looks nicer. Our housekeeper, Dawn was the sweetest. We went on the driving range twice in one day that's how much we loved it. Stephen at the pro shop was incredibly friendly and made us really have an excellent golfing experience. The hotel is in such a picturesque area and is just so peaceful. Normally I am a city person but this hotel really makes anyone appreciate the country. THis hotel is so cozy and gives you the feeling you are staying in a huge house. The old manual door elevator is a gem, they just don't make machinery like that anymore the thing is from the 1800's and runs better than some modern elevators. Yes it's slow and smells musty in there but its just so cool. We had a snack in the tavern, we had the potato chips with Ranch dip which was delicious and we had the breakfast buffet one morning which was really awesome. Even though they stopped serving at 10, they never failed to keep everything replenished and they make omelets cooked to order and the omelet chef was really personable as well as the waitress we had. Check in is also always a breeze here. There is free wifi that works well and the cell signal is remarkable for such a rural area and they also have a free computer with printer in the lobby for guests to use. We hope to return in the near future!

Room Tip: The hotel is 5 Floors Floor G is one level below the lobby level and is not accessible elevator so i...

I've never took the time to write a bad review before, but this hotel is filthy and in disrepair. I don't know where to start. The wall paper was moldy and falling off the walls, the ceiling was cracked and had water damage, the bathroom was full of mold. The door to the room next to us did not even shut all of the way. I think the people in the neighboring room actually left because it was so bad. They had one person on duty that checked people in, was the maintenance crew, and the Manager. He tried to fix our T.V (yes even the t.v did not work) and spent nearly half an hour in our room and still couldn't fix it. When we talked to the manager nothing was done and he was quite rude. Not a 3 1/2 star hotel, not even close. See attached photos of the filth.

We are driving around New England and picked this place based on reviews and location. It is nestled in the hill country of Jackson, New Hampshire juxtaposed to the White Mountains. It is an old establishment with dignified charm. The elevators are ancient but serviceable. The rooms are large and well maintained. Ours had a refrigerator. The lobby is of another time reminding us of craftsmanship not often seen in our modern world. The staff was friendly and check-in a breeze. One can sit on the porch in a rocking chair and relax looking at the mountains. There is a heated pool and a 9- hole golf course. Parking is ample and simple to maneuver. You may drive into Conway on the main road or avoid the traffic and take the West Road--a shortcut we learned from the staff. But the very best part of our stay was the food. Superb. The best we have had so far. The menu is distinctive, the ingredients local, and the tastes divine. You need not eat anywhere else. We want to recommend our waiter, Zack, who was friendly, efficient, and a credit to the establishment. This place is a gem and we recommend it highly. Please come here.

This place specializes in rustic charm and classic elegance; it is a nostalgic trip back to the time of Teddy Roosevelt and the railroad hotels across America. Also a reasonable rate. Not all modernized, which I appreciated. We had our wedding there, and everyone in the party wanted to return next year for an anniversary party! Very comfortable for families with great pool and game room. Beautifully decorated rooms. Relaxed and did feel, as they say, "like Grandma's house." Breathtaking views from front rooms. Neat stream with rocks to climb on, nearby. Jackson feels like an enchanted oasis away from it all. And a super helpful wedding planner is free!

Room Tip: pick a room with a view--I heard no noise and was awed by the view
