We booked a room here at the last minute and I think we got one of the last rooms available. We did not want to stay in North Conway so we did not have much choice with hotels. The Eagle Mountain Lodge is spectacularly located in the White Mountains and we were impressed when we arrived. The room looked ok but it was a bit cramped with two double beds in it and we tried to change to a different room, but none were available. It was located on the ground floor, in the south-west corner and because of the surrounding trees did not get very much sun. It was not long before we had the feeling that the room was a bit damp - not really damp perhaps - but just a feeling that did not make you feel 'cosy'. The room was comfortable enough however and we slept well. The breakfast was really good (not included in the price of the room however) - all the usual stuff but also a cook who prepared 'customized' omelettes while you wait. The staff were really friendly and helpful and not only tried to find us a change of room when we arrived but also gave tips on where to go hiking.
I recommend an omelette every morning to anyone staying here - you pay a flat rate for breakfast.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the upper floors.

This was an unplanned stay on our travels from Montreal, Canada to Portland, Maine, and we couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this beautiful, old-fashioned looking hotel. The drive through the mountain park to reach the hotel is worth the drive in itself. The hotel has a ski lodge feel and homey (in a good way) reception. The desk personnel were helpful and friendly. The ambiance is completed by an old-fashion elevator that you actually have to pull the iron gate across to close. Now all of this said, the hotel is on the older side and with that does come some worn carpet and such, but nothing that should distract from the quaintness of the place in general. Despite some of the age issues and wear and tear, the hotel rooms are very clean and have amenities like flat screen televisions. One of the best surprises of our stay was the quality of the dinner in the restaurant. We expected an adequate meal that would do, since after a day of traveling we didn't want to go further to dine out. Each person in our family group of six was delighted with his/her meals. The food was very good. We returned to the restaurant in the morning for the buffet breakfast which included a made to order omelet station and all the accompaniments, and was equally pleasing. We were sorry that this part of a long trip was only a blip on the screen; we all agreed we could have stayed here longer.

We had a very positive experience here, and I don't really agree with the negative comments in some of the reviews.....at least it wasn't our experience at all. That being said, it is an old style resort and it's true that the decor is dated and the floors are a little creaky, and there's nothing state of the art about it at all. But we like staying in classic old places and are willing to accept the tradeoffs of staying in old places. The only possible negative I saw is that there's nothing else within walking distance, but you can get anything you need with a 10 or 15 min. drive. Overall, I'd say that it's probably not for everybody, but we had a great time there. One suggestion....we rented a less expensive room and had no view, and it's probably worth spending a little more money and having a view of the valley from your room.

I don't know about the hot tub or exercise room.....we didn't use them.

The veranda is a great place to hang out in warm weather. They serve food in the dining section of the veranda.

The staff was uniformly pleasant and helpful.

Btw, if you're into mountain biking, the Great Glen facility (10 mi. away) has beautiful mountain biking trails and reasonable rental prices. This hotel has coupons available that will give you a discount at Great Glen.

Room Tip: See my comments above.

We have stayed here close to a dozen times and my husband was treated very poorly. We arrived to be told our reservation had been canceled. Which was not by us. They were very rude about the whole situation. We still stayed because they had a room for us but this is likely our last visit after treatment like that. Which is too bad because the rooms are quaint and the breakfast is awesome.

This place was extremely musty and in need of repairs. The rooms were dated and dingy. I couldn't get past the smell. The exercise room had 1 exercise bike in it. The hot tub was disgusting. We cut our vacation short and couldn't wait to leave this place. The porch was the best place to be. I wouldn't even attempt to order food from the restaurant. Run away.. The staff was not accommodating, at all. We wanted to check out early and they tried to give us a gift certificate to come. No way. I told the manager we couldn't smell musty in the pictures. It was terrible.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

We stayed here again this year because we just fell in love with it last year. This year we had room 303 which was called a mountain view one room suite. Keep in mind there are 2 room suites which we had last year which has a queen bed in a bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. This room, the one room was everything in one large room with a ton of space. They will accommodate a rollaway in both room types so the room would definitely sleep a family of four comfortably. Our room was a corner room so there were a ton of windows including in the bathroom which was also humorous, (the bathroom last year was tiny) Tip-getting the rollaway to fit takes some creativity,we moved the coffee table into the bathroom,it can also be put into the closet(BTW there were two as well as an armoire with hanging space.) The hotel seemed to have replaced the ugly tube TVs with nice new flat screens. Although we rarely watch TV in hotels, the flat screen just looks nicer. Our housekeeper, Dawn was the sweetest. We went on the driving range twice in one day that's how much we loved it. Stephen at the pro shop was incredibly friendly and made us really have an excellent golfing experience. The hotel is in such a picturesque area and is just so peaceful. Normally I am a city person but this hotel really makes anyone appreciate the country. THis hotel is so cozy and gives you the feeling you are staying in a huge house. The old manual door elevator is a gem, they just don't make machinery like that anymore the thing is from the 1800's and runs better than some modern elevators. Yes it's slow and smells musty in there but its just so cool. We had a snack in the tavern, we had the potato chips with Ranch dip which was delicious and we had the breakfast buffet one morning which was really awesome. Even though they stopped serving at 10, they never failed to keep everything replenished and they make omelets cooked to order and the omelet chef was really personable as well as the waitress we had. Check in is also always a breeze here. There is free wifi that works well and the cell signal is remarkable for such a rural area and they also have a free computer with printer in the lobby for guests to use. We hope to return in the near future!

Room Tip: The hotel is 5 Floors Floor G is one level below the lobby level and is not accessible elevator so i...

I've never took the time to write a bad review before, but this hotel is filthy and in disrepair. I don't know where to start. The wall paper was moldy and falling off the walls, the ceiling was cracked and had water damage, the bathroom was full of mold. The door to the room next to us did not even shut all of the way. I think the people in the neighboring room actually left because it was so bad. They had one person on duty that checked people in, was the maintenance crew, and the Manager. He tried to fix our T.V (yes even the t.v did not work) and spent nearly half an hour in our room and still couldn't fix it. When we talked to the manager nothing was done and he was quite rude. Not a 3 1/2 star hotel, not even close. See attached photos of the filth.
