Paugus Bay Campground
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Just got back from a relaxing three days at Paugus Bay. The staff could NOT be friendlier and the free hot coffee at the office in the morning was delicious!
The showers were clean and bright white fiberglass, not your typical dank and scary showers. It is a short walk to Weirs Beach and a short drive (less than a mile) to many other fun attractions.
The lake was warm and had a platform that the kids loved to hang out on offshore. The beach is raked daily and there is plenty of room for a campground this size.
I will say our campsite was located closest to the lake (112) and was quite private, but it is the only site without lake views. I will be going back here, but will request another site, as they all had stunning views overlooking the lake as the land is not flat but upgraded away from lake.
All in all, book this campground and you will not be disappointed!

First time to this campground. As we prefer more wilderness types of camping our initial reaction to all the seasonal trailers and close proximity of the campsites was "what have we done"? After setting up our tents on site 13, we realized that by parking our car between our tents and the road really eliminated the lights on cars coming down the road. The site was surprisingly quiet at night except for a couple of deisel trucks that were abnormally loud that came and went many times. The facilities were really clean and cared for. All of the golf carts were annoying as some appeared to not care if you didn't move out of their way! So, except for the abnormally loud trucks on each side of us, and the irritating golf carts, it was a very pleasant weekend. The office people were very helpful and nice. As we were checking out we asked the few people in the office drinking coffee, where could we get a good breakfast. They all said to try George's. we did, and it was wonderful!
It was the ending of a wonderful weekend.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at our campground. Try coming back after Labor Day when the rates drop $10 per night and it is really quiet!

I have to say for my very first camping trip, Labor Day weekend in 2013 with my boyfriend. Was very good, I thought I won't even but I did. And it was so quiet at night, I slept like a baby every night I was there. Instead of all the rain we had, it never put a damper on anything. You make the most of it, no matter what. The shower and bathrooms are clean. I would definately come back again. But the next time it will be on a water front camping site. Thanks again.

My wife and I stayed for a weekend and had a great time with friends. This campground is very well maintained and the view from our site was terrific. Our only complaint would be the amount of golf carts driving around. The campground is mostly seasonal and walking on the small trail to town is downright dangerous with the traffic. We also witnessed a guy lose his dog off a fast moving cart near our sight , after picking up the poor dog he put it back on with the leash under the tire . Luckily for the dog I let him know before he left. I think they may need to come up with a few DUI / carting rules. Other than that issue all was great and we will stay again, but if you have small kids watch them close in the afternoon hours after the cart drivers hit the road impaired.

Thank you for the positive comments on the campground. We appreciate your feedback and would like to address your concerns. We do have many seasonals who own golf carts and they do not all follow our speed limit of 5 MPH. Every golf cart has the number of the seasonal's campsite on the back and we would appreciate knowing about any incidents you may witness in the future. Golf cart privileges can be pulled with two warnings from the office. We are also considering installation of speed bumps to address the issue of speed. Your comments are helpful in advocating for this change and stricter enforcement of our current rules.

From the time we arrived, the owners made us feel very comfortable. Our camp site was right at the bath house. At first I thought, "OMG, what did I do?!", but the site was actually very nice. Once set up, we parked our truck to the back of the site for more privacy. The site was clean and fairly large. There was even an area for us to set up our hammock. The bath house is very clean, as is the whole campground. It was a very quiet and relaxing week, as most of the campground is seasonals. Weirs Beach is a short walk, and many other tourist attractions are very close by: Kellerhaus, Fun Spot, go carts, etc.). We will definitely go back.
