My boyfriend and I stayed at the Lake Opechee Inn and Spa during the Labor Day weekend. I was looking for an inn that had spa amenities in the White Mountains area that did not have a 2-night minimum for the holiday weekend. The Lake Opechee fit the bill. The people I talked with to book the reservation were very helpful as was the spa person who I booked a couples massage with.
Pros: The inn is lovely. The common areas and the rooms are well-appointed with attention to detail in the furnishings. The beds are very comfortable and the gas fireplace is a plus. Even our partial lakeview room had a great view. The website accurately reflects the ambiance in the individually decorated rooms. The spa is close and the massages we had were wonderful. The addition of the restaurant in October will be beneficial.
Cons: We had the unfortunate luck of being near the dog rooms where one little dog barked constantly when his owners left him alone in the room. If we had stayed longer it may have been more of a problem, but it did not help the relaxed atmosphere we were hoping for.
The whirlpool in the room is very loud and the jets are not well-placed for a relaxing bath. It had a tendency to come on automatically and there were no directions how to fix this.
There is only one entrance/exit to the inn and it is a walk from the parking lot. They do provide luggage carts, but a walk from the car to the room past the reception desk is unavoidable no matter where your room is.
Upon checking in the man did not tell us where anything was located (the pool, the spa, our room) or any other information like check-out times, breakfast times. He was new, but this should automatic. We had booked a massage and this was not noted at check-in and we had to pay for that service separately. Wish that the spa and inn were more integrated.
There is not much to do in the town immediately surrounding the inn. We wished there was more to do on the lake itself.
The inn was renovated from an old mill building, but there is no history of the building itself, which would have been nice. The rooms at the right-hand end of the building look at an ugly part of the old mill.
The continental breakfast provided has a wide variety of food (cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, pastries, bagels, fruit), but we wished the pastries were a little fresher.
