“On slope not far from Boston”
Reviewed 24 February 2012

We just came back from a nice long weekend at Loon. We found the Mountain Club to be nice and comfortable and our over all experience was good with some small disappointments: The staff was friendly and polite though not so much informative as I would expect. The Hotel was suppose to be after a big renovation though I must say it does not show, the only really new thing that I saw was the counter top in the Kitchen in our room. The freezer in our room did not work, a service person came quickly and fixed that but it was too late for the meet that we brought and had to throw. The water in the showers were too cold in all hours of the day and out of the two available elevators, only one worked at any given time. I would like to hope that the renovation is only just starting.
But beyond these irritating things it is a very nice hotel. If you like skiing and you appreciate being on slope, this seems to be the only such hotel, other on slopes accommodations looks like time shares and privates. The Hotel also has an inside heated pool, which is a must for my kids, also there is a spa, fitness and racquet court (if you are interested).
If you have not been to Loon before keep in mind that the Ski resort has two 'centers' where the Ski rentals and Ski schools are on one center and the Hotel is on the other. The two centers are divided by a big parking lot (~10m walk) and there is a free steam train that takes you from center to center.
The Hotel has one evening restaurant (Black Diamond) which is not too expensive but also not very good.
If being on slope is not a must you may want to consider one of the hotels surrounding Loon, across and along the river. There seems to be a shuttle that runs continuously between these other hotels and the ski site

Room Tip: Rooms are facing either slopes or the river. Though most will automatically choose the slopes I woul...

The Mountain Club is a regular destination for our family in both winter and summer. The skiing is wonderful. If you don't ski, you can go tubing or use the indoor pool/ spa area. In the summer the adventure package is a must- zipline, euro bungy, climbing wall, cave exploration at the top of the mountain after a ride in the gondola- it's a full day of fun! I highly recommend it. Our children love there. There's always something to do.

The Mountain Club on Loon has never needed to be "great" since its ski-in, ski-out location is unbeatable in NH...if not New England. We've stayed there off and on for several years and have always liked the location, the food, having a studio with a kitchen, and simply being able to park our car for the weekend and kick back and ski like crazy.

This year, we've been three times. It's truly a whole new place. The rooms are brand new--carpeting, granite counters, new wood-framed picture windows, couches, tubs, the works! The hallways used to be hot and dated--now they have all new HVAC, club-like carpeting, and wood paneling. The Black Diamond Grille is redone and the menu is the best of all worlds--cheap and outrageously goo pub food or truly innovative cuisine (three way sliders, lobster macaroni, espresso Martinis, etc.),

It's not a pretentious place--i.e. it's totally relaxing, family friendly, and down to earth. The indoor pool is perfect for kids of all ages. The outdoor hot tub is fantastic before the lifts close--it's real cool to watch skiers cruise by 25 feet from where you are soaking your bones.

On the down side--it is a bit more expensive than other options in town, but the ski-in, ski-out experience, never needing to leave the property, having a kitchen in your room, spa services on site, fantastic restaurant (breakfast is great too), apres ski with guitar and low-priced apps--it is far and away the best value in NH. There's no shuttle bus waiting to deal with (like the Mount Washington or Waterville Valley); "ski out" does not mean a 400 yd skate (like Attitash), and perhaps best of all, you never have to step foot in a crowded ski lodge.

Room Tip: If you like watching the skiing action, ask for a slopeside room. You'll overlook the gondola a...

My family and I have made the Mountain Club a regular winter destination and it never disappoints – in fact, it seems to get better. The mountain itself has plenty of great terrain and manages to produce great conditions when weather seems to hamper other ski areas in the region. And in terms of convenience, you couldn’t ask for more. The Mountain Club sits right on the mountain – you literally ski from the door to the lifts. You can be the first on the slopes and pop back in for lunch in your own kitchen in less time than it would take to go to any of the mountain’s restaurants.

And in the off chance that the weather keeps you from skiing, there’s plenty to do at the Mountain Club. They have a full onsite recreation/fitness area and spa – pool, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, weight training and cardio equipment, racquet courts and more. Or, you can just pamper yourself with a spa day or massage. The onsite restaurant and bar are good, too. Whether you want a more formal meal or top-end après-ski pub fare and a great draft beer, you are covered. Neither you nor the kids will get bored.

The suites are recently (if not continuously) updated and are excellent. Plenty of space, full efficiency kitchen and dishware – everything is always clean and in good order. The staff is very helpful and the underground parking is infinitely better than scraping ice and snow.

And that’s just winter. . . Between the climbing, zipline, bikes and horses at the Adventure Center a few steps away and the on-mountain attractions like lift-serviced cave trails and summit artisan “village”, the Mountain Club is easily as fun in the Summer and early Fall as it is in Winter.

Room Tip: Don't feel like you have to get a slopeside room. The "mountain view" rooms overlook...

I have stayed at the Mt Club many times and plan on going back this summer if possible. This review is a bit overdue but we're just catching up from other travels. First off, I can only judge the rooms I have stayed inn and have no experience with some of the less expensive rooms on the lower floors. We aren't snobs, we just can't stay in any hotel room that doesn't have a private deck. It's our personal preference. So as far as Loon goes, we are talking about the rooms on 13 with the small decks which you can book separately or as part of a suite if you need the extra space. So, in regard to those rooms, they are absolutely wonderful. I have also stayed at a few other places in Lincoln (including the Nordic) and nothing really comes close. Get on the river side if you can and you will enjoy stunning views of the mountains and river. It's a very peaceful setting and perfect for relaxing at the start or end of your day.
As for amenities, these rooms have small but well equipped kitchens, several comfortable bedding options, good sized bathrooms, dining room tables and pretty decent TV's if you need to get your sports fix when you get back. The resort itself has a restaurant and bar, has had BBQ's outside in the summer and a very nice pool/hot tub area. There are actually a couple of restaurants in the resort but they may not all be open in the summer months when things are a bit slower. Still we've had some very nice dinners there so the quality of the food doesn't suffer after the skiers have all departed.
In my opinion, Loon is located in one of the best locations in NH. You will be surrounded by mountains, rivers and endless outdoor activity options. As an extra added bonus, you are only a couple of minutes out of Lincoln which is a wonderful small town with great shops, restaurants and attractions. And you're about 10 minutes from Franconia Notch which is a beautiful place to spend some days. I really can't see anyone being disappointed with a stay at the Mountain Club, especially if you book a room on 13.

Room Tip: 13th floor, riverside

The Mountain Club on Loon was awsome. All the rooms / suits have been completely remodled. All new windows, flat sreen TVs, granite, tile, heating & cooling systems, flooring, appliances...this place is ALL NEW. The on site restaurant "Black Diamond Bar" serves great food and drink and the atmosphere is great. Live entertainment on Friday and Saturday. The best part is the ski in ski out! You literally role out of bed and your in Loon Mountain. There is no other ski in / out like this at Loon Mountain. The staff was friendly and helpful and really seem to enjoy working here. I will definately be back for another vacation.

Room Tip: Riverside rooms are quieter and the views are much better. You hear the river running alll night lon...
