“A great place to stay”

The thayers inn has a great location and friendly staff. There is a lot of history in this area including the inn. The location to downtown Littleton but also to other tourist sites in northern nh. The prices are very competitive.

So we were on a leisurely vacation as are probably most people traveling through Littleton, NH. What is with the 10:30 check out time? We had stopped and considered a stay at the Thayers Inn, Asked for rates. $125 plus tax seemed a little high for a Sunday night at the end of the season, when all the leaves had dropped from the trees and not much going on in town. But we were willing to try it out as I love historic buildings and thought the experience would be good. We walked through the hotel and it seemed ok. It was just a little worn out and not real clean, and the lobby looked like it had been furnished from goodwill, but not a deal it is an old hotel, it was the ambiance we were interested in. I pulled out my credit card and was ready to pay when I noticed the 10:30 check out time. When I am on vacation I don't really like to rush. So we asked the front desk attendant( who wasn't friendly and should maybe be working a back of the house position) if it would be possible to extend check out to maybe 11am. Her answer, "NO". I put my card back in my wallet and we left, drove up the road a block to the Littleton Motel("The first Hotel In New Hampshire"), had an excellent stay at a perfect, clean, nicely appointed motel and the price was way less too! They btw were just fine with a 11am checkout and the front desk staff was super friendly!

I've read other reviews and they are all true when they say the place is tired and the staff does not seem like they want to be there at all. There was no friendly assistance from the people at the front desk, they just did their job and didn't even smile while doing that. We had a better conversation the next morning, while eating our continental breakfast, with another couple who was staying there! They were the highlight of our visit. Not the house, the room, the staff or the breakfast. I won't go back again and will advise my friends not to stay at the Thayers Inn!

Room Tip: Use another facility not this place.

We appreciated the historical nature of Thayers Inn and were willing to accept the slanted floors and retrofited safety features but the staff just did not seem to want to be there. One of the expected benefits of an INN is the more personal approach of the staff and its employees. Definately not the case at the INN. They were not rude, just not interested. As well, the "continental breakfast" was well... I have had superior continental breakfasts at Motel 6. In retrospect, I would have stayed 1 night for the historical experience, but definately not more. Too bad really. The Inn is well located. A little cosmetic maintenance and friendlier staff would make it a great place.

Room Tip: Nothing in the back where the hum of the Inn's restaurant's industrial fans whirl and roar f...

If you're looking for a fresh, lookalike hotel chain, Thayers Inn is not for you. It's an old, historic hotel with an impressive guest list of former presidents and stars, and the location in the middle of downtown Littleton can't be beat. There's free wi-fi and an excellent restaurant attached. However, the rooms definitely need to be updated. I made my reservations a couple of months in advance and paid over $100/night. When I arrived, there was a sign advertising rooms for $59/night. I did not complain. But for the price I paid I could not ignore a couple of things: first, the grout in the bathroom was mildewed. That's an easy fix they should attend to on a regular basis. Also, the bed is terribly uncomfortable. It wouldn't be so bad if the pillows were updated (not an inexpensive investment on their part that could make a huge difference), but they were the old, lumpy foam pillows. The lamp beside the bed had a thick layer of dust on it, and the window sills were a little dirty. But the place is old, and I kept reminding myself why I chose Thayers Inn instead of a newer place. Some of the quirks could be expected. The breakfast was cereal and bagels, but with the number of excellent restaurants and diners in town, there's no reason to eat breakfast at the Inn anyway. There are a number of cons, but honestly, I would stay there again. Despite the issues, I really liked the place. I do recommend that they fix the problems and update the rooms, and I would have liked the offer of a price adjustment, but the experience was generally positive. It was a nice break from the cookie-cutter hotels.

Wallpaper peeling off at the seams; grout missing from bathroom tiles; retrofitted sprinkler pipes running in plain sight in halls and rooms; a truly pathetic buffet breakfast; non-functioning heating system This place may have been attractive at one time, but has not been kept up to its potential. Generally, I prefer older places to cookie-cutter chains, but only if they are treated with respect by their operators. I don't plan to return.

Agree with other Tripadvisor review re: needs updating. We had a large family room (plenty of space) which was dusty--TV included VCR player which was broken. Wallpaper was peeling in some areas and hotel exterior (in the back, not facing main road) really needs a fresh coat of paint. However, the town of Littleton has lots of character and nice restaurants. The breakfast is mediocre but you have a wonderful bakery (millers) behind the hotel and the atmospheric Littleton Diner is a short walk away.
