“For my birthday...”
Reviewed 25 April 2012

My wife made reservations for us at the Wentworth for my birthday. What a great place. Absolutely beautiful. We took advantage of a package deal they were offering and it was an excellent value. It's only a few miles from Portsmouth which is great but you really don't have to leave this place because there is lots to do on the property or you can just hang out. We'll certainly go again. Oh, I had a massage and it was the best one I ever had...honestly. Ask for Rachel. The deal came with dinner for the both of us. We could order off the menu and it included soup or salad, an entree and desert. We just paid for our drinks. We also had breakfast in the morning. The dinner and breakfast were quite good.

The Wentworth is a hidden gem minutes away from Portsmouth, yet century away in the finest grand hotel style. With a spa, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pool, it is a must if you decide to stay in Portsmouth.

Room Tip: Get harbor view

We honeymooned at the old Wentworth many (too many) years ago. This was our first return since the remodelling and takeover by Marriott. The hotel is now just like every Marriott on the planet: the same boring lithographs and faux luxury. What did they do with the remarkable collection of photogtaphs of the Portsmouth Conference which ended the Russo-Japanese War in 1905, which used to decorate the public spaces?
We had dinner in the restaurant, formerly a breakfast room in the old hotel. Our server was gracious and reasonably attentive, although she did have a number of other tables. Food was very good (try the lobster bisque, breast of Muscovy Duck or the Cod) and the wine list is better than average. All in all, a pleasant experience. I just wish that something in addition to the exterior facade was preserved, particularly the old word charm that made Wentworth unique.

Room Tip: We did not stay at the hotel.

My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend celebrating her 25th birthday. The spa is among the best I've ever been to. Both the facials and massages were top notch. The facialist was really a professional esthetician. The hotel is lovely - one of the old New England grand hotels which has been totally modernized - so it has more character than the usual Marriott, but with all of the consistency one expects from Marriott properties. We had a beautiful ocean view room. The Sunday AM brunch was one of the best we've ever been to. The New Castle area is lovely. Portsmouth chic restaurants are 3 miles away.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms on either side have a water view, as the hotel is on an island (2 short bridges co...

We love Portsmouth, NH and decided to try Wentworth by the Sea as it looked beautiful. This hotel was more than we expected. The room was the one of the best I have ever stayed in. The size and atmosphere of the room was like being home with a beautiful atrium door that opens onto a deck and gorgeous floor to ceiling windows. We had a waterview and worth the extra money. A short, straight shot to Portsmouth makes it very convenient. I loved this place and can't wait to go back.

Spent a night at the Wentworth in a Marian Suite. Very nice, with a living room, full kitchen and a 1/2 bath downstairs. Upstairs was a bedroom, with a large bathroom that included a whirlpool tub. The upstairs bedroom also had a small balcony that looked over the water. There was a pool directly outside the room. The hotel itself seemed very nice, and the grounds were spectacular. Overall a nice place to stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in suite 1005. Nice view of the marina, but you had to carry your luggage down steps to g...

This is the hotel that made me re think about my general distaste for hotels. There was absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel. The room was immaculate, lush, comfortable and well soundproofed. The food was incredible. Every member of the staff demonstrated unparalleled patience toward my octogenarian mother and her canine companion. The outdoor jacuzzi and spa services were so relaxing. This is the perfect place for a wellness weekend, a getaway weekend to see Portsmouth or southern Maine, or a place to just disappear and have a good read in a quiet room.
