I had been a while since we had camped but we met our son and family here, they had an RV and we had a pickup truck tent. This campground is a first come first serve, no reservation. It is cash only and it is better if you have exact change, $22.00. You fill out an envelope w site number and drop in box everyday. Our site was large and flat with plenty of room, there was a small field and woods behind us for the grand kids and our dog to run. Once we got use to being no cell service it was great . There is wood to buy but no general store so bring in your own supplies. It was a little chilly at night, even in August, so bring warm clothes and extra blankets. Happy camping

I went in July 2013 with my daughter to just go on an adventure. We showed up around dusk and were a little concerned about trying a new campground, knowing there were no reservations just first come first served. We found one (totally perfect) empty campsite, pulled in and asked a nice couple who happened to be going by on their bikes how we secure this spot we just scored. They told us, if it's empty it's yours and then you go pay and get a stub to put in your car window. Easy! then a host woman came by in a golf cart and she was totally nice, told me where to get firewood and gave me a pay envelope and zipped away! We had a great night of campfire, hotdogs, laughing, and great snoozing. Good way to spend time with your teen! And the campground is very very nice and clean and spacious. And the river is lovely. Bring water shoes - it's rocky and there were a few leeches, but they're only on the bottom so float around in a raft, you'll be fine. Some guy was fishing trout with his little boys - hauling in plenty! Later in the afternoon we went to Clark's Trading Post down past Lincoln and saw the trained bear show, rode the train, and got ice cream. Really nice time :-)

I was introduced to jigger johnsons about 11 years ago. My husband and daughter and I start getting excited months before we go. It's relaxing, clean, and so much fun. Over the years we have noticed the manager getting increasingly edgy. We were so pleased to meet the new manager! He is so friendly, helpful, and just plain nice. Everyone this year seems nicer..even happier. We were so glad to see that the family atmosphere has not diminished. We had some rowdies...but they were asked respectfully to quiet down. No troubles at all. I can't tell you how much this place means to my family..I tell anyone who is planning a trip to the White Mountains....stay at Jigger Johnson's!!! Thank you Gary and staff....you guys are the best!!!

Stayed here this past weekend after researching comments and books on best campgrounds. I was quite impressed on the cleanliness of the restrooms, roomy campsites, low mosquito population. I would have given a excellent rating but the posted Quiet Hours 10-6 was not enforced by the Hosts in each camping area. I had a host site adjacent to mine and two nights in a row nothing was said to the sites within hearing distance of the host as to the loud talking til 1am each night. Very Rude people to carry on that late after quiet time and inexcusable for the Host not to give them the hint.....why have a host planted in each camping loop?
Like I said, this place is very good and could be a quiet camping experience if things were enforced a little more.
Hot showers are available for 8 quarters for 6+ minutes. Whatever happened to the 50 cent showers? The bathrooms have running water, not pit or vault toilets which is a plus. The spacing on the sites are excellent with privacy and room between sites. A walk through the woods will bring you to a stoned beach area on the Swift River great for a dip into the cold waters with a fairly good current. If you take a tube up river you can float down to the beach nicely.
The dip in the river can save you the 8 quarters if you don't care about the lack of hot water! The water is crystal clear as it is cold. Wood is available at the Host sites within the campground and encouraged due to insect control. Every Saturday evening a professional gives lectures on different subjects near the shower area.
I would and will return here but will not hesitate to wake up a sleepy Host if they don't do their job on quiet control.

Room Tip: All site are First come, First Served so get there early. Check in is at 2pm, checkout 12 noon

Stayed here for the first time ever this past weekend after a day hiking. We weren't sure we'd find any open sights on 4th of July weekend, but they had plenty. The sights were spacious and clean, the showers were also very clean. You can walk right down to the Swift river from the campground. Our only complaint would be that there are no lights in the bathrooms! After dark you are on your own- very creepy! Bring a flashlight. Also that charge $6 for fire wood, so pick some up on the way if you can. For $22 we were very satisfied and this will definitely be a place we visit for many years. Also the hosts were very accommodating and friendly.

This location is about 20 minutes from North Conway along the famous Cancamangus Highway so it feels like you are truly in the wilderness, but you are also close enough to civilization (Walmart) if you need to buy something or go to a hotel in case of bad weather. The individual campsites were about the largest we have seen at any campground. All sites, bathrooms and showers were extremely clean (for a government campground). The campground is located on the banks of a small, shallow river and this was an endless source of entertainment for our kids (ages 10 and 12). Other than the river there is not much to do here besides hiking and relaxation. Site 48 is one of the closest to the river.

Mid June is an ideal time to visit this area because the weather is good and the local schools are still in session. We camped from June 12-14 and there were only 4 or 5 campers in the entire campground; we had our pick of the sites and did not have to worry about other campers making noise or trashing the restrooms. During this time the hotels and other recreational activities in the area are open and available at very reasonable prices with no crowds. This is in contrast to the fall when the fall foliage crowds transform this region into a huge traffic jam.

All the negative posts others have written about the female ranger (who BTW no longer happens to be employed at this wonderful campsite) do not surprise me. She clearly lacked the interpersonal skills for her position. But.... times have changed and so have the rangers. I was back several times this summer and could not have been more pleased. The place was clean, organized, and the personnel could not have been more accommodating and friendly. I have stayed in many campgrounds around New Hampshire over the years, and this is by far my favorite. The tall pined wooded sites could not be more indicative of a true northeast camping experience. You WON"T be disappointed!
