Saco River Camping Area
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 August 2008

We searched for a campground on the Saco River specifically. We are a family of 4 with 2 small children that wanted to to a little bit of fishing while at the campsite.

The Online booking system was great but not accurate. We checked availability and it showed campsite availability along the river. After booking online and reserving with a credit card the Saco staff called about 3 hours later to inform us that no space was available along the river as it was completely booked.

They ended up moving us to a "cabin" site which is more like a lean-to. The site was nice in that it was right by the bathrooms and playground but unfortunately the front 1/3 of the site was full of water and mud. The Saco staff stated the water should dry up soon but it did't. We were there 3 days and it did dry up a little but remained. Each time we walked out of our assigned site we had to navigate through mud and water holes.

The camping area was clean and quiet hours were adhered to without any problems. The camping area is definitely family friendly.

The bathroom and shower areas were clean and I never had to wait from for a shower. The hot water was cheap and plentiful. Twenty-Five cents per 5 minutes of hot water.

The wireless internet was not perfect but did work. My site was pretty far away from the main office so they must have had range extenders strategically placed. I had a "low" signal that sometimes gave me problems, but I was just happy it worked at all.

All in all, we didn't get our riverside campsite like we booked on the registration system but the camping area was well kept and the people were very friendly.

This was the best vacation in a long time. It rained most of the time we were there but had a great time. The campground was so clean, lots to do and very friendly staff. I would recomend this area to anyone. The kids had lots to do there (one preteen one teen). The management was excellent. Could not have asked for anything more. It is very quiet at night.

My best friend and I just stayed at the Saco River Camping in North Conway, NH. This campground was wonderful! The staff were very friendly, especially Steve, I think he was the owner. Upon arrival, I was impressed at how clean the campground was, the bathrooms were exceptionally clean and very up to date. If you love canoeing or kayaking, this is the place to stay. For a very reasonable rate, we were picked up at our camp site directly at 9am on Saturday, by a bus with boats in toe. We were greeted by three men who were so nice and pleasant. They transported us to our destination about 15 miles away where they unloaded our gear for a relaxing kayak trip (about 3 hours) back to the campground. The saco river was breathtaking, the whole camp trip was perfect. I would highly recomend this campground, if you have children, the playgrounds were modern and clean and safe. The pool was great with a section for little ones about 1.5 feet deep, up to 7 feet deep. I have been to many campgrounds in North Conway for the sake of canoeing, rafting and kayaking, and this campground is the ONLY one I will ever stay at!
