“Bring your hair dryer”
Reviewed 12 July 2008

The room was clean. Rugs were new.
Bathroom had bottle opener, but no tissues.
Towels were thin. No hair dryers. None to loan out at front desk
Lobby smelled like someone was smoking.
Got what we paid for. No frills. Just a place to sleep.

SOME OF THESE TWO AND THREE HUNDRED DOLLAR A NIGHT HOTELS HAD BETTER START LEARNING FROM MOTEL 6 . We needed a clean , comfortable place to sleep and that was all. A nice pool that was small but plenty big enough to get cooled off in , a clean room with a great bath and shower. Thats all we needed for our three night stay and we were very happy. Afteer all your at the ocean and you pretty much only sleep at your hotel. We will be back again.

I was really impressed with this motel. Very clean. Very friendly staff. Nice little pool. It was really nice for the price.

Stayed from 12/20 - 12/24. Staff was friendly for the most part except for the person who acted like the manager when I arrived. He was busy berating one of the desk clerks in that famous New England Style ("Hey, I'm not Mad!" he yelled). Anyway, I arrived at 2:50p asking to check in. He told me to wait ten minutes before I could check in. That's kind of BS, but I really didn't have a choice. He left, and the berated clerk took his spot at the front desk and she was all smiles and personality. She checked me in promptly, and by 2:58, I was unpacked in my Queen non smoking room.

Room is comfortable enough for $45/nt. Only major complaint about the room was the been seemed worn. I had to sleep in the middle as it was the only spot that wasn't worn with depressions from others before me. I got over that pretty quickly as tired as I was!! The hotel wasn't crowded so it wasn't very loud. I could see the place being loud when it was full though. Walls were paper thin (aren't most hotels?) though. As a previous poster noted, the parking sort of lacks.

The next morning, my tub was slow draining during my shower. I stopped by the front desk to ask them to send maintenance up there as I didn't like taking showers in ankle deep water. The Front Desk guy (same "manager" as from the first day) explained to me that since the place was built on a swamp, the drains won't drain as quickly since the water table was so high. i would of thought that they would have drained into the sewer and a water treatment facility, but I'm not a sanitary engineer, so I couldn't say anything. Regardless, he said he's send his maintenance guy up there. Lo' and behold, some Liquid Plumber later, and I never had a problem again.

I found the majority of the staff to be very responsive and friendly which was a nice change from most New England businesses you run into.

You can't beat it for the money, but you have to remember that it's a Motel6 and not a Comfort Inn or nicer.

We stayed here during the week of September 2nd (After the labour day weekend).

$59USD a night for 2 nights which was half of what most places wanted and less than what I could find on priceline where you can get stuck with anything.

The location was ideal, right off the I-95 and next to the Spaulding Turnpike which we took to head up to Conway ( ~ 90 min drive depending on the traffic).

And Oddity is that since the Hotel is on a 4-lane seperated by a median in the middle, you can make a left-turn into the hotel from the main street (Gosling Road). However, if you head to the back of the parking lot there is a road that goes around and meets up with Woodbury ave. (it's not on Google maps, but the road is there). So coming back make a turn at the intersection with the bank on one corner and past the Shaws and keep going past the old Home Depot and around and you are at the back of the hotel.

10 minute drive or less to downtown Portsmouth and there is a Walmart just down the road on Woodbury. If you head down Hwy 1 South-West onto Lafayette you have a Walmart Supercentre ( I believe the one near the Hotel is only a regular Walmart). Also, heading north up the Spaulding Turnpike about 10 minutes to Somersworth (near Rochester) is a Target and another Walmart Supercentre across the street.

The Fox Run mall is across the street but don't both walking to it as we did as the main part of the mall is a good 15-20 minute walk behind the building you see on Gosling Road.

The room itself was a good size, the washroom was huge by hotel standards (obviously designed for a Senior or someone in a wheelchair) and there were far too many available channels on the TV to ever try to figure out which ones there were.

As with any Motel 6 I stayed at, no Alarm clock or pens or the usual stuff you get (there was soap, shampoo and essentials like that). Basically remember to bring a alarm clock or something to wake you up in the morning if needed.

And if you can get a room facing the Portsmouth Saturn all the better if you want wi-fi as it is wide open and works great. If not, the internet provided by the hotel was fairliy cheap compared to most I have seen at hotels (2.99 or 3.99 for 24 hours.)

The pool is an oversized hot-tub and was closed for the season when we arrived. It's outside so it really would only be appealing in the hottest days of the summary and not more than about 6 people could fit in it without crowding.

This hotel was obviously recently renovated as the rooms and the common areas were very fresh looking and modern. Once you head into the stariways you get an idea how old the place is. They were not bad or anything just gave that look of being designed may years ago that is all.

Parking was adequate although with the hotel appearing to be full there were not an overabundance of remaining spots. Very few spaces at the front of the hotel, most were located on the side of the building facing the Saturn Dealership or at the back of the building.

We went to go shopping there so if we were to head that way again we would definitely stay again in that place.

Portsmouth lodging tends to be on the expensive side even in the shoulder season in September, Motel 6 was the cheapest option at $85 per night for a single. Since I was driving, this hotel made a lot of sense to me, inexpensive for the area, free parking and not that far from town, it took about 10 minutes by car.

This hotel was nice for a Motel 6, the room was clean and comfortable, but very basic. No toiletries besides soap, no hair dryer in the room although I understand you could get one from the front desk.

There is an outdoor swimming pool but it was already closed for the season. There are vending machines in the lobby and on each floor but if you need to get sodas and snacks there is also a Shaw's grocery store about a minute away by car.

One of our group managed to get a room with a refrigerator and microwave but not all rooms have it so ask in advance if it's important to you.

All in all, this really wasn't a terrible place for the money. The pool was outside, which is fine in the summer, but not much fun during a New Hampshire winter. The rooms were clean and recently remodeled. The breakfast was okay, muffins, bagels, etc. Not a full breakfast, but enough to get us going on the road. The location is great. Not far from a nice beach, shopping centers close by, right off the highway, lots of places to eat close by. I'd stay here again. Wi-Fi worked well.
