We were greeted with a cold beer and tickets to the theater downstairs. (The show was excellent) The room was small and the bath downright tiny, but everything else was perfect. The two managers were extremely friendly and helpful. They even made us a "Happy Anniversary" card! Good free snacks were always available in the lounge area. Wi-fi was easy to use. The perfect location - we never used our car. They really thought of everything. We will be back.

Room Tip: If you are more than one person, don't take the smallest room. We were in room #2 which was tight for two people.

We love that our unique amenities, such as the play tickets, snacks, free WIFI and welcome beer (and who doesn't love cold brew if they choose to stay at a place called the Ale House Inn!) made your stay. We appreciate the review and kind words for our great onsite crew. Please come visit us in Portsmouth again -- and check out our Deluxe King room. It is quite spacious.

Parking and entering this Inn has some challenges. Once you find the parking area, you still have to climb 13 steps with your luggage. You press a button to be admitted to the building and then pass through another area, on to an elevator. Nothing was very aesthically pleasing as we made our way to the Inn. We were assigned Room #1, which was a nicely furnished room. Unfortunately, it was the closetst to the common area. Although a sign is posted asking that guests not congregate in the area after 10:00 pm, some inconsiderate guests decided to party until after midnight. There is no one on site to help with a situation like this and to contact anyone off site, you would have to naviagte to the phone around these drunk and loud guests. We didn't think a confrontation was worth it.

The staff was well informed about the area and helpful. The inn is location of the Inn is accessible to many resturants and sites.

Room Tip: Select a room that is not close to the common area.

We are pleased that you enjoyed our "heart of Portsmouth" location, room decor and helpful staff. Sorry to hear that the funky "old brewery warehouse" entry vibe put you off and that it was loud in your room. Room 1 is the closest to the guest lounge and sometimes our other guests can have a little too much fun. We appreciate your thoughts and will look into ways to ensure that guests better adhere to the "quiet" by 10 pm policy. All the best to you.

The Ale House Inn was such a great find. This small hotel just knows how to treat its guests. A complimentary beer to welcome us, free WiFi, use of an IPad full of useful tips on Portsmouth, the most helpful hotel manager (Kelsey) you could find, a lounge / lobby with comfortable chairs and complimentary snacks, free parking, coffee machine etc. etc.

Perfectly located in one of New England's most beautiful and historic towns, the hotel and room was very comfortable, clean and everything we could have wished for.

Loved the stay in Portsmouth and recommend both the Ale House Inn and Portsmouth as the perfect spot to explore this beautiful region of New England.

We actually changed our weekend to one that had a vacancy at the Alehouse. We knew before going that it was going to be worth it and it was! This inn is in by far the best location in town. Not noisy as its just off the main drag but close enough to walk to everything we were interested in. We really enjoyed knowing that the building was not open to the public. Every guest gets a key and a code to enter the building. There are very few rooms and as a result very little noise on the floor. Our room was the smaller room they offer but what it lacked in space it made up for in style and comfort. We don't require a large room, no kids and we travel light. I commented to my wife that this might be the first hotel that I left after two nights feeling very rested. The beds and bedding were very comfortable. I won't travel to Portsmouth again if I can't get a room at The Alehouse. I have no complaints and can't wait to stay again. The staff were very helpful when we arrived and more than willing to help us determine the best order and times to do what we were interested in. They also made some great restaurant suggestions. If you don't stay here you are missing out!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ale House Inn! They were quite accommodating with our late arrival and a knowledgable and sweet front desk/ manager. We enjoyed the beer in our room when we arrived and the the ipad in our room was a great amenity for exploring the area during our stay. The snacks in the lobby were also a nice treat! Our room had a comfortable bed, nice decor but a slightly small bathroom. Still it was still clean and cute. Very pleased and would highly recommend for a couple in their mid 20's-30's. We would definitely stay here again if we come to Portsmouth.
