We happened to be in Portsmouth during the NH Film Festival, and decided to catch one of the movies. It was playing in The Music Hall, right in the center of town. WOW! What an absolutely beautiful venue! If you are visiting Portsmouth, it's really worth stopping by just to see the interior, even if you don't see a movie. I wish more cities would make the effort to restore theaters like Portsmouth has.

This was a fantastic place to see a show. The details of this building lends to the excitement of the show. You can order cocktails in the lobby while you wait for the show. The seating was very nice and comfy too. We sat in the orchestra section straight on...no complaints here. Intermission lenads you to another bar where you can order more cocktails and snacks. The bathrooms are super clean and fantasticaly decorated. This is the second time I have been here and will certainly go back again. The show was awesome, entertaining and worth the money.

When I was a kid this venue was a movie theater. The best place in Portsmouth to see the latest Disney flick. Now it is even better. And I mean Better - note the capitol B!
They have great programs all year long. If you live in the area you'll want to become a member. That way you'll get your tickets early, and be able to select your favorite seating. I always try to sit in the front row in the balcony.
When live shows are not on the schedule, the Music Hall has wonderful movies. Usually the ones that are not showing at the multiplex. The last one we saw though was a bit of a disappointment. (If you ever have a chance to see "Austenland", don't.)
The lobby is always a favorite gathering place before the show, and some of the best reviews I've ever heard have been in the spectacular ladies room after the show. Really, even if you don't need to visit those facilities, be sure to go in and take a look around. Best ladies room in New England.

The Music Hall (and its smaller venue, The Loft) is one of the leading lights for cultural programming in a city (town, really!) rapidly becoming known as a culinary hot spot. Great indie films, concerts, a wonderful lecture series (including Writers on a New England stage) and films of important theatrical and operatic events from the National Theatre in London, the Metropolitan Opera, etc. There's a nice bar and a rather strange decor in the ground floor (think Middle Earth meets House Hunters, for some strange reason). The Loft is an equally wonderful venue. Smaller, more intimate and with great seating and acoustics. The Music Hall is a treasure in this community.
