We've been to Rudi's many times over the last several years and have never been disappointed. (Full disclosure - one of our best freiend's son is the bartender there.)

A cozy place with a smallish, busy bar that has live music most nights - often a duo, sometimes even a trio! Very rare in most Portsmouth restaurants. A big plus for me.

The menu offers a nice variety of apps and entrees with specials available every night. The calimari and fig ravioli apps are especially good. Entrees to consider are the duck, the wild mushroom risotto and the scallops.

Rudi's has expanded into an adjoining space directly on Congress and features a much larger bar and seating area. Haven't been there yet but always looks busy.

You should try it!

What can I say…. we went to Rudi's with another couple today for lunch.. based on the fact we were sure we could obtain parking… ( I know, bad reason to eat somewhere). Location is great, parking is a great plus. atmosphere is rather mixed… white linen tablecloths with Chili's level of food. Prices were fine.. but again, we came away totally unimpressed. Not that anything was bad.. it is just that nothing was really that good. In an area with some great restaurants.. it would almost get a poor rating based on the level of restaurants in the area.

We really enjoy Rudis, pretty consistently. We particularly like the atmosphere, it's very rich looking, but still has a casual atmosphere. The food is always interesting and delicious. The on-site parking is also a real bonus. Given all the restaurants in Portsmouth, Rudis remains one of our favorites for lunch or dinner.

Love this restaurant, ate at the beautiful wood bar, bartender attentive and meal very good (petite filet, haricot verts and mashed potatoes- classic and delicious. A live pianist playing in same room added to the ambiance. Only negative comment is that the restroom could certainly benefit from an update. Will go to Rudi's again when visiting Portsmouth.

I have visited Rudi's cocktail area with friends on several occasions since they expanded up High Street to join Congress Street. Although many places can get crowded very early on a late Friday afternoon, this spot never feels that way. The room is nicely designed and service is ver,y good. A few comfortable couches sit next to the front windows, offering a great view of North Church and the activity on the street out front. Please note that this is not your trendy, noisy "hot spot" bar but rather a classy room in which to share a drink with a friend or business associate at the end of the day.
