“Terrible Room”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The room was small with a dirty jacuzzi tub and no table to even sit at to use my laptop. Bathroom was smaller than the average bathroom and there was no rack to place our luggage on. We used the two folding chairs that were placed in the closet. Because we had exchanged our points, we were told that we would only have one cleaning for the duration of our stay which was 3 nights 4 days.

We had a wonderful stay this past weekend at Steele Hill Resort. First I have to say that the staff that we encountered during our stay were all very friendly and willing to answer any question that you had.
We came here to attend a wedding and they did a wonderful job. The buffet was fantastic, everything was delicious. The view is spectacular overlooking the lakes. It was a beautiful location for a wedding but it is also great to just sit on your balcony and enjoy the view anytime of day.
The main building that houses the restaurant we were told was built in 1938 and is really charming with a stone front. Even though it was the end of bike week we found the resort a very quiet peaceful place. The pools were very nice and we enjoyed walking on some of the trails. This was our first visit to Steele Hill and I would not hesitate to return as everyone had a wonderful time.

I recently visited Steele Hill with my mom, my sister and her husband and their 3 children. We had no problems finding the place thanks to the signs placed on the main roads. It had been a long drive and we were looking forward to settling in and getting the kids to the pool. We were staying in 35AB in the west townhouses and when you're travelling with 7 people there's a lot of luggage.

There are also a lot of stairs. Lots and lots of stairs.

Our townhouse didn't have an entrance on the ground floor. We had to go up 2 flights of stairs and down a long hallway to get to the main door. The master suite was right in front of us, but the rest of us had to go down another set of stairs to get to ours. We had to make that trip several times to get the cars unpacked and re-packed. All of the grown ups in our group have some kind of back, knee, hip or breathing issue and if there had been a more accessible wing, we would have preferred it.

The pool was awesome! The grownups enjoyed it just as much as the kids did. We all loved the waterslide and our youngest loved the kiddie section. The water was the perfect temperature. Normally I find hot tubs too hot for me, but it was perfect; we all really enjoyed it.

The kids loved the playground, it was a perfect way to get them to unwind from the long drive.

Would I stay here again? Possibly, but I would request a room with street level entrance.

Rob R, General Manager at Steele Hill Resorts, responded to this review, 16 June 2014
I would like to clear up a few points from this review. Steele Hill is a large resort that has been constructed over a period of time. Our newest building was finished in 2006 and much of the balance of the inventory was built throughout the 1980’s. I believe we do a fantastic job maintaining high standards in our accommodations. Steele Hill has the most aggressive renovations program in the Lakes Region. We recently posted a blog article highlighting the major renovation of a large portion of Steele Hill West. I would advise any potential guests to review some of the photos and videos of these rooms for themselves.

The resort does not have elevators, but we do have a wide selection of first floor units available as well as handicapped accessible offerings. For any guest with mobility issues I would recommend discussing room options with our talented reservations staff. They do a great job of finding the perfect room for each guest.

In terms of room keys, we have some rooms with key cards and many rooms still rely on keys. Being on a rural mountain in New Hampshire, this has not been a major issue for our guests over the years. We are actively costing out key cards for the remaining rooms and will consider a full transition in the next few years.

As far as the road is concerned, I believe there may be some confusion on behalf of this guest. The resort has a brand new, scenic, paved road all the way from route 3, to the resort property. We have also placed signage along this route to help guide guests to the property. The new road makes for quick and easy access off of the Highway onto route 3 and up to Steele Hill. Some GPS systems still include a route with a dirt road, but we specify in our confirmation email and on the direction page of our website to follow the directions that we provide.

In terms of answering phone calls, our central reservations line is open until 9PM. We also have a 24 hour front desk. In situations where a guest might need help with directions, there is a direct line to the desk and our reservations line also offers a call tree option to be transferred to the front the desk clerk.

Overall I am sorry to hear, you did not enjoy your stay, but I do not feel this experience is necessarily representative. We pride ourselves on taking care of our guests and I strongly feel that we have one of the best properties in the State.

Sincerely,
Rob Robillard, General Manager

Steele Hill Resort is located at the top of a very large hill (small mountain) and provides a great view of the lakes in the valley and the White Mountains to the North. It has a nine hole golf course and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The atmosphere is very relaxing and no city/traffic noises at all to contend with, just quiet and peaceful. It is located near to other attractions in the area from large lakes and quaint wineries to tour and enjoy the taste testing. Even if the weather is not the best, there is plenty to do in the area or simply sit by the pool, have a cocktail from the pool bar, and watch the weather outside.

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room/apartment that is in the higher numbers since these will provide the bes...

GREAT location in the lakes region with beautiful views of lakes and mountains. We've enjoyed this resort for many years, especially the huge hot tub, 2 indoor and 2 outdoor pools. You'll need a week to enjoy all of the amenities: golf, tennis, hiking trails, racquetball, volleyball, horseshoes, exercise room, sauna, interactive video games and the tower where you can catch the sunset and the mountains in the distance. The restaurant offers a spectacular view of the lakes and mountains and a delicious brunch buffet every Sunday. The spacious condos are always clean stocked with all of the kitchen essentials. Whether you love the lakes region during warmer months or the ski areas in the winter months, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: The lower numbers at West are further away from the main area and pools. I would request a room bet...

My family and I spent the weekend at Steele Hill Resort. Although it did rain a majority of the time we were there we still had an awesome time! The indoor pools and spas were great. My 6 year old son loved going down the water slides, playing the arcade games, and doing the other kid friendly activities they had. The people were always friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it so much we invested in a timeshare for the resort and are looking forward to returning. :)
