“Really nice inn”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

We stayed here in March for a romantic retreat. The inn is small and rustic, with lots of charm. The owners were extremely friendly, helpful and nice. We really enjoyed our room, which came with a comfortable bed and nice sitting area. It was quite unique to have the room heated by a gas fireplace, which was different. The bathroom was small but big enough for our purposes. And the restaurant was unbelievable, both for breakfast and dinner. Make sure to go if you stay here. Overall, highly recommended, although if you want 5-star amenities and not rustic charm it may not be your cup of tea.

My Wife and I had the most enjoyable time in the Sugar Hill Inn. We stayed in the Cottage and found the service to be fantastic. The Inn Keepers, Steven and Karen were a delight.

We love the Sugar Hill Inn! We're always looking for an excuse to go back.
We went two years ago for an anniversary and stayed in the Dream Cottage. It was fantastic! We had a small problem with having hot water in the shower, but we were willing to overlook it for the other benefits of the Inn.
The food is gourmet quality and the service is top notch! The owners are such sweet people and will do just about anything they can to help you have a great trip.
We were back over labor Day weekend and stayed in a smaller suite right off of the Library. It was a totally different experience to be in the house, but no less enjoyable! It was still very private and just as luxurious. That bed was so comfy!!
We absolutely love it there. Seriously. We'd move in if we could.

Room Tip: Go for the suites with the soaking tubs, they are the most current. However, they've updated the...

We actually stayed nearby at Sunset hill inn. We heard how great the food was here, so we booked a dinner. It was fantastic. I started with the mushroom ravioli, which was very flavorful. The mushroom flavor came right through. Then I had the field green salad, which was just right very fresh ingredients. Then I had the salmon, which was just perfect. My partner had the Sweetbead gniocci. For his main course he chose the Osso Bucco, which he loved. The desserts were outstanding & not overwhelming. At $58 for a "prixfix", it was very reasonable. Without a doubt this was our finest meal we've had in the White Mtns. We do plan to stay sometime within the year & enjoy another fantastic meal as well.

Room Tip: We only ate there, but have seen the rooms in the past..very cozy is how I'd rate them.

I am sitting in front of the fireplace at the Sugar Hill Inn with a glass of Pinot Noir and loving it. Earlier in the day I asked Steve where I could buy a Wall Street Journal. He said "no need, I have it on my ipad". I had never used an iPad before and Steve very graciously gave of his time to teach me how the thing works. I have been playing with it all day.

We arrive yesterday and had a wonderful dinner. Chef Val is very talented. We are staying in the Nickerson Suite. My girl friend loves the room. It is hard to describe, the suite has three sections to it; a bedroom with a great king bed, a setting area with fireplace and a large tiled area with a whirlpool for two. The bathroom while small is really cool. I was impressed by the extra details such as the espresso maker and the Bose Radio and art.

The town of Sugar Hill is worth exploring. It is a mix of mountain views, farms, beautiful homes and a quaint country store.

Thank you to Karen, Steve, Val, Jen and Dan for your warm hospitality.

We stayed here this fall and for the price (granted it was peak foliage season) were very underwhelmed with the room (we stayed in the Peckette Suite). Being close to the road was not so much a problem, but the room itself was not very private as guests walk around outside to get to their rooms or to the parking lot. We had to keep the blinds closed all day. The grounds were pretty, but mostly you see other buildings.

The chef was incredible. Comparable to any NYC or Montreal restauaraunt this is the gem of the property. Very reasonable pre-fix prices and decent wine list (although even though we asked the waitstaff and owner were not very helpful with pairings or suggestions). Breakfast was ok, the pancakes are indeed quite good, but not the same flair and decadence of the diner menu for sure. The waitstaff and housekeeping were very friendly and professional.

If I came to Sugar HIll again I would spend a lot less on lodging and simply come here for dinner.

Thank you for sharing your views with the tripadvisor family of travelers.

We were surprised that you did not love the Peckett Suite. A recent trip advisor review called the Peckett Suite a gem. For those not familiar with the inn, the Peckett Suite is our second best room and is absolutely loved by all. The suite has a large king bed, whirlpool tub, separate shower, windows on three sides, front porch with a fabulous view of Mount Lafayette, back deck, Nespresso Espresso Maker, Bose sound system, mini refrigerator, flat screen TV … etc.

We consider the Peckett Suite to be very private. It has its own entrance from the outside and is not near any of the other guest rooms or the parking lot. With over 14 acres of land it is unlikely that anyone would be walking near your window while you were enjoying being newlyweds. However, closing the blinds is not a bad idea.

Thank you for your strong endorsement of our restaurant. The restaurant has received the Dirona Award, Wine Spectator Award and Opentable's Diners Choice Award. While the dining room welcomes reservations from the general public, during the peak foliage season most of the tables are reserved for inn guests.

The peak foliage season is only three weeks long and you do pay a premium for the first week in October. We had a waiting list for that room.

The Sugar Hill Inn is not for everyone. While others in our industry are cutting corners to offer discounts, we are focused on offering quality. To us, quality creates value. We buy the best beds, sheets and towels we can find. We are the only lodging property in New Hampshire to have the Nespresso Espresso makers in our rooms. It is no accident that our restaurant, wine list and inn have won awards. We take it seriously and work hard at it. Extra touches such as freshly baked cookies for the ride home are part of the Sugar Hill Inn experience. Unlike most hotels that decorate their walls with mass produced prints from a hospitality industry catalog, we seek out original art by local artists. We believe that these beautiful works of art contribute to the guest experience and set us a part from other properties.

Don’t worry. This quest for quality does not mean we are stuffy or snobs. Occasionally we might make an error and welcome constructive feed back. The beauty here is understated and relaxed and no one will be wearing a tuxedo. We love what we do and love sharing it with our guests.

Each room at the Sugar Hill Inn is a unique product and we encourage everyone to carefully study our website to select the room that best fits your taste and budget.

While it is interesting to read these reviews, it is important to keep in mind, that less then 1% of our guests have ever written a review. Come share the good life at the Sugar Hill Inn.

My husband and I recently stayed for the weekend at the Sugar Hill Inn, off the beaten track north of Franconia Notch, in New Hampshire. This was our third time at the Inn and we have had a consistently excellent experience each time. We like to get away for a weekend in January for some down time away from everyday life, especially after the hectic holiday season. Sugar Hill Inn provides the perfect location.

We splurge and stay in one of the suites, preferably the Richardson, and it is worth every penny. If it is too freezing to ski or, as was the case this past visit, there is no snow for cross country skiing, we only have to stir out of the room if we want to do so. Otherwise, we can relax on the comfortable sofa or chairs before the room's fireplace, reading, drinking expresso (complimentary) or wine chilled in the small fridge in the room, using glasses cheerfully lent by the bar even though we brought the wine with us, nap on the very comfortable king bed, or enjoy the relaxing comfort of the two person jacuzzi. The rooms have dvd players and flat screen tvs, with an array of dvds to borrow from the lounge. Even if we are unable to ski but still decide to stir out of the Inn, there is plenty nearby to enjoy, such as wandering through Littleton, shopping at the Garnet Hill outlet down the hill, or heading over to Bretton Woods or North Conway. The Inn serves tea and sweets or savories outside the bar between 4 and 5 pm. It is very relaxing to sit there and read the papers that are available.

We always eat at the Inn on Saturday night. Sometimes we'll have a drink at the cozy bar, and we always enjoy that. The dining room is small, but well appointed and comfortable. Some of the tables have very comfortable sofas or upholstered chairs as the seating, which I, as a person with a bad back who can find straight-backed wooden chairs uncomfortable, enjoy. There is an excellent wine selection, both by the glass and the bottle. They serve a four-course prix fixe meal that has been outstanding every time. From the trio of soup sampler to the maple creme brûlée, every course was delicious, well presented, and enjoyable. We both had the beef tenderloin which was excellent. It is a relaxing dinner pace, which is exactly what we were looking for. There are the little extras, or lagniappe, that you expect at a high quality venue like the Inn. For example, we had a delicious amuse bouche of a sautéed fish cake (tasted and looked far better than it sounds) and ended the meal with a homemade truffle (after the creme brûlée and coffee). Service was excellent, with both the owner and the chef checking with us to ensure that we were satisfied. It was a most enjoyable eating experience.

The included breakfast was no less delightful. It was four courses as well, but not too much food. I hate feeling weighed down by the morning meal and this was just right. We enjoyed the fresh fruit, the muffins, and the juice, all of which were the prelude to such delights as eggs with goat cheese and herbs, French toast with sautéed apples, and blueberry pancakes which were light and airy. Service was attentive, but not hovering. Just what we wanted.

All in all, we came home from this weekend very relaxed and feeling as though we had been well-pampered. Every time we have been to the Inn, we have been very happy with everything. One year, we couldn't get a suite on the weekend we wanted and went instead to a highly-touted Select Registry inn in Jackson, where the mattress was so bad, I ended up sleeping on the floor. We won't make that mistake again. We'll just adjust our weekend if we can't get into Sugar Hill Inn on our first choice. It is not cheap, but it is worth the cost. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Spring for one of the suites if you can (although the regular rooms may be just as wonderful; we'...
