“Wonderful property and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2013

My husband and I stayed here mid-week on our way north to the White Mountains. We booked a regular room and got a very big corner room with a beautiful view. The staff was attentive and very helpful but unobtrusive. Breakfast was wonderful. The location was very nice, the only problem being we were on motorcycles and at the end of the day you don't want to get back on and go anyplace and there's no place to eat that's walking distance. We solved the problem by bringing wine, cheese, bread and snacks with us. They have a microwave, refrigerator and plates and utensils available so it was OK. I'd stay here again on our way north. WiFi was a little elusive in our room.

Room Tip: The front of the Inn has big rooms with a view. The rooms in other parts of this rambling old farm...

Getting there: if you're going in the snow season, be sure to take the shorter route on Stagecoach. The longer one has a massive hill at the end and our car couldn't make it up! Road was much easier on the other side when we drove around.

Check in: super easy. We got a full tour of the buildings and a very friendly reception.

Amenities: Tons of cozy spaces you would expect in a NH inn near a ski town. Couple sitting areas with TVs, a game room (older, but fun - pool table, air hockey, card table, etc - very much like a camp), sitting area with a piano. In the summer lots more outdoor activities - it was winter, so lots of snow shoeing or x-country skiing available. Note: there are no TVs in the rooms. Wifi is free and slightly slow over in the Annex, but reliable.

Rooms: The main building has some rooms and there is another building right across the road, the Annex. We had a room over there which was dog friendly. Amazing views of Mt Sunapee and landscape since the hotel is on a hill. Direct access to outside and plenty of parking. Rooms were very clean. A bit rustic, but exactly what we were looking for - home-like. We had a large king bed room (each room has private shower/bath) and a very cute heater that has an electric fireplace - was able to keep the warm extra toasty, was nice to fall asleep to, and our dog was in permanent residence on the floor in front of it!

Check out: super easy as well.

Food: breakfast was included with our stay. There was a full cold breakfast buffet (toast, bagels, english muffins, toaster, cereal, juices, fruit) as well as anything we wanted they would cook for us. AMAZING pancakes and bacon hit the spot! Felt like we were staying with family and service was great.

Staff: everyone we met was super obliging and nice. They really care that their guests have a good experience - could always reach someone if any issues and they have a ton of ideas for local activities to check out or snowshoe/x-country ski right on the property.

Overall, exactly what you'd expect and what we were looking for: affordable, cozy, clean and friendly!

Room Tip: I liked the Annex across the street because it was dog friendly (only $10 pet fee was very reasonabl...

I don't know what I was expecting, but this place was not it. It's a little bit rustic BUT...the country is beautiful, the rooms very comfortable and the hospitality is tops. The breaksfast was cooked to order and was yummy and it was hard not to eat too much. Everything was fresh as well. I had the best 2 nights sleep that I've had in a very long time. John, the innkeeper recommended some wonderful restaurants as well. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Innkeeper showed me a variety of rooms and let me choose.

I've stayed at chain hotels for decades and was delighted by Dexter's. My room and bathroom was spotless. I booked their smallest room in the main house which had a full size tub in the private bathroom. I arrived late. There were two groups in the den and a few children (about 16 people). I went to bed by 9pm, and never heard a sound. I'd told them I had to leave before 7am, and they made sure breakfast was available for me (thanks!).
It's a beautiful inn, 2.9 miles from Mt. Sunapee Ski Resort, with a gorgeous view. They also have a ski room and large game room. The family couldn't do enough to make my very short stay wonderful.

This is was our first visit to Dexter's and it will not be our last. We were greeted upon arrival and immediately given a tour of the inn which included tips on how to take the best advantage of the common rooms as well as our own rooms. Because it was a holiday week, dinner was served on a non-weekend evening (Thursday), and we took advantage of it. We booked two rooms, one for my husband and myself, and one for my teenage son. Both rooms had private baths, were warm and comfortable, and offered privacy within a very busy inn. Unfortunately we were unable to take advantage of the onsite cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails due to unseasonably warm weather, but my son and husband were able to enjoy a very uncrowded Mt. Sunapee ski resort. What we liked best about our getaway (3 nights) was the ease and comfort of the inn--there really wasn't anything we didn't like about our stay.

We were 14 and three generations and came to Dexter's Inn for a skiing vacation over Christmas. It was perfect for us. The large public rooms on the ground floor (with two grand fireplaces) accommodated both togetherness and apartness. The w-fi allowed the teenagers to stay connected with friends. The breakfasts were large and bountiful; Chef Rolf served eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles and potatoes as well as a cold buffet of breads, cereals and juices. Our first night we had dinner there. Mine had an Alsatian theme and each of the three courses was splendid.

Our bedrooms were just fine. I was cautious about using the shower because there was no grab bar. I mentioned this to Innkeeper John, and he seemed grateful to get this feedback.

This is a wonderful place for large families or other large groups traveling together. The old 1804 house is charming and has been suitably upgraded with modern amenities. It looked like it would be wonderful in summer, with tennis courts and a swimming pool, and spacious grounds. Sadly, there was not enough snow to test out the cross-country skiing trails, but it was very convenient to Mt Sunapee.

All in all, we were happy there and it was just right for our group.
