“Fabulous Inn”
Reviewed 26 April 2006

My fiance and I got married in Vermont last September, on Labor Day Weekend. I chose the Chesterfield Inn to house my wedding party, and my fiance. What a great decision! All of the staff are amazingly friendly and informative about the area. My friends could not say enough great things about staying there. It is very comforable, with chairs outside to relax in the afternoons, evenings. A nice minibar with refrigerator in each room. Wine glasses! Nice touch. Breakfast is freshly baked and eveyone adored it. Something a little special and different every morning along with fresh fruit, muffins, great coffee, and juice. The rooms are varied in style, but very clean and extremely comfortable. Some with fireplaces, some with patios or decks. Huge bathrooms, and good showers/tubs.

My fiance and I stayed in one of the extra special rooms our wedding night. Great idea! It has a huge double jacuzzi tub that we could not wait to crawl into after such a long day. There is very conveniently a tape player/radio right next to the tub with music at the ready! We happily bubbled away while drinking champagne. The bed was huge and so comfortalbe. A nice little patio out a pair of french doors that looked over the meadow was wonderful in the morning. It was nice to sit, relax and listen to the birds, etc. I never heard any other guests, very quiet place.

I should also mention that two days before my wedding we found out that due to a funeral, we were unable to take pictures at the church. Judy at the Inn was so nice, and offered the Inn and grounds to us for the pictures! The pictures were fabulous with the Inn as the backdrop, on a beautiful sunny morning. It is beautifully landscaped with flowers, etc.

I would highly recommend this Inn to anyone for a relaxing retreat, or as a base for touring. Brattleboro, VT is right over the river, with a quaint Main Street area, good restaurants and places for nightlife fun. Ski resorts are not far.

The Chesterfield Inn is a sweet little gem of an Inn located in a low-key little town in SW New Hampshire, close to the Vermont border. It is right on a major road, but set far enough back so that we never heard any traffic noise during our two days and nights there.

The inn is situated in a beautifully restored farmhouse and barn, with two newer, attached outbuildings (styled so that they look like part of the original building). We stayed in room 23 in the Wetherby wing, with a working fireplace, a small private patio overlooking the hills of Vermont, a very comfortable queen bed and matching wing chairs, and a writing desk in front of a big window and window seat. Spacious bathroom with a tub/shower, and a simple wet bar. (They have whirlpool suites too.)

The food is simple but very good, and the service polite and efficient. This isn't a fancy gourmet place (pretty basic wine list), but everything was very well prepared, and the dining room (Colonial style) offered uncrowded dining with a nice views. The breakfast was great.

The grounds are lovely, including a large frog pond at the front of the property and acres of rolling hills at the back. And everything is immaculate, inside and outside.

No major attractions in this corner of the state, but close to Keene and a good base for exploring SE Vermont. Also to many outdoor activities. There's an interesting ruin of an old house with a history (Madame Sherri's Castle) nearby that's worth the short walk in the forest.

An excellent value for the money. The innkeepers, particuarly Judy, are wonderful people whose love and enthusiasm for innkeeping resounds throughout the place.

We had a great time, and will likely go back. Just a very nice, laid-back, unforced and wonderful inn experience.
