Four of us enjoyed a great eating experience at the Chesterfield Inn. Although we each had our own appetizers, we shared tastes and all of them were super. I especially like the sausage appetizer which was savory and delicious. Our entrees included filet mignon, pheasant and scallops and all of these were winners. Cooked perfectly and served with fresh peapods and carrots cooked just right. Dessert were to die for and we left very very satisfied and feeling like we were out for a special night. Our server, Lisa, was top drawer. Since we live locally, we will be sure to return. Highly recommended.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review of your dinner at the inn. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your dinner, and the excellent service provided by Lisa. The menu changes seasonally and the game sausages are always a favorite appetizer. It's nice that you had four diners so that you could sample so much of the menu. We hope that you'll come again!

Our "very good" rating could easily have been "excellent" but we must reserve this highest accolade for truly the very best. That said, it was a splendid experience in every respect and we absolutely will return, not just for dinner but to stay at the inn as well.

The menu is sufficiently varied without being overwhelming. For a small restaurant our "rule of thumb" is fewer offerings done well is much preferred to more that is simply average. This rule holds true for the Chesterfield Inn. Three of us were dining on this particular Saturday night. Being that we were new to the area (just outside Brattleboro, VT), I like to stop by and survey the restaurant ahead of trying it, which we did. We were delighted they could accommodate us at 6:30 - a prime time.

When we arrived, we greeted with a lovely fire in the lobby fireplace, it quickly took the late autumn chill away. We were seated quickly and began a lovely dining experience. The wine list was sufficiently varied. The three of us shared two appetizers, a combination of pheasant and buffalo sausage with a sweet cabbage accompaniment, the other a stuffed ravioli with light cherry-tasting sauce. The former had wonderful texture and flavor and the contrast between a light meat and dark meat sausage was perfect. The ravioli was good but the flavor a little lacking. (Note on this: This is "deep" New England and pronounced or aggressive flavors (spices, etc.) can be lacking if the cooking style is traditional N.E.).

The mains were hearty and plentiful. Swordfish was impeccably prepared, broiled; it was sweet and fresh, and was adorned with a french dressing (I haven't had swordfish prepared this way since my mother prepared it 30 years ago, it was delicious, but the french dressing is different). My wife had seared scallops, also perfectly prepared and decidedly fresh, on a bed of greens with a very light sauce. And finally, my daughter had braised lamb short ribs (first I had ever heard that lamb has short ribs). Very tasty, and, hearty portions.

We couldn't resist desert where we shared a chocolate cake and a pecan torte with walnut ice cream. Wow. Perhaps my only criticism is they were overly sweet.

Topped off with Irish coffees and the meal was complete.

Delightful.

On the first night I had the duck and my wife the Tuna both of which we enjoyed
On the second night we both had the lamb which was cooked to perfection but not as tasty as the lamb we get in Australia .

Dinner was the best meal we had in a week! It was in a lovely dining room that was almost all windows, with a lot of atmosphere. Delicious! Breakfast was also delightful, with a very attentive waitress. It was several different courses, each served with a flare, and a lot of special attention to presentation! The room was sunny, right and in the middle of a pretty flower garden. A very romantic atmosphere.
