We went to this beautiful grand hotel for New Year's Eve and the following night!, we loved it so much that we decided to stay a third night! We commend the staff for accommodating my wife's extensive food allergies! We had constant reassurance that she would be ok and able to relax in a new surrounding! The New Years Eve elegant Gala in the Crystal Ballroom was amazing! A 5 course meal and dancing all night to a live band! With fireworks out the window by our table! The head Chef had made a bar completely out of ice with a fish to have your drink poured through! The room was promptly made up every morning! And turn down service was offered at night! We did not bring our children on this trip and found it a wonderful time to just be together even with the resort having so many families visiting! We walked in the snow! Went to the movie theater where concierge brought us popcorn! The classic wood bar and bartenders were great! The waitstaff was attentive, friendly, and professional! We spent our trip home trying to figure out if we would bring our kids the next time we go. And there will be a next time! It seems when you bring kids they are busy with their own plans with the farm, snow activities, and kids club! We even noticed there was a special New Years eve party in a different location on the grounds for kids! think even if you went with your kids you would have ample time for a couple retreat! Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful getaway!

Room Tip: Make sure to check the closet in your room they have great extra pillows and blankets!

This was our first time visiting Mountain View Grand Resort and I must say the entire time we were there the experience was amazing. The staff went out of their way to service us and made awesome recommendations for outside activities with the kids and adults. We stayed with family including our children and there was so much to do for all ages. It was nice to see not only families but couples arriving as well. The resort was first class when it came to dinner and we had the pleasure of dining in the wine cellar, I highly suggest it!! I do have to say my kids couldn't stop talking about it and are already asking when our next trip will be. Thanks to everyone at the resort for making our time so special!!

This was our second New Years at MVG. We had no major complications during our stay. We did note that resources were strained by full occupancy. However the staff always seemed courteous, polite, and accommodating. The front desk seemed incredibly calm when dealing with challenging guests. New Years is a fun and festive time for both young and adult. The 10 min New Years Eve fireworks show was a great finale. Our elementary school kids loved the game room, the movie room, sledding, playing bingo, and swimming in the pool. They were never bored! It's impressive that they can maintain the grand historic inn setting and yet kids feel comfortable and welcome. The room was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet. I appreciated the many complimentary touches: coffee in the morning, cider and cookies in the afternoon, s'mores by the fire, and kids activities. We enjoyed the food at the Tavern, but they were showing the strain of trying to accommodate a full house. The kids enjoyed the indoor pool, but it was dirty and murky.

We celebrated New Years at Santa's village. It was incredibly fun and the all you could eat junk food there was actually yummy even for the grown ups!

Room Tip: First floor rooms with high numbers lack privacy.

We (myself, wife and two boys [8 and 5]) stayed at the Mountain View Grand Resort the weekend prior to Christmas. I had seen lots of Groupon advertisements for this hotel (although I never bought one) and thought that it would be a nice weekend getaway with some quintessential old-school New England ambiance (not to mention its close proximity to Santa's Village). The property is gorgeous and it was all decked out for Christmas with lights, giant nutcrackers and a huge gingerbread house in the lobby. Throughout our stay we found the the staff to be pleasant and very helpful. There were tons of activities for us to do, including a trip to the farm for some knowledge and animal interaction, a visit from St. Nick and plenty of games to keep the kids busy. The indoor pool was great (although a little on the cool side). Our room (a suite) was positioned at the front of the hotel, with a view of the roof of the rooms beneath us (it was not a pleasant view, but we did not stay here to stare out the window). The room had a pull-out couch for the kids and a queen for my wife and I. There was a bathroom with two doors (one to each side of the suite). The room itself was nice, but the bathroom had an odd set up (fresh towels situated right above the toilet, toilet paper holder situated very far behind the toilet, no glasses [glass or plastic] in the bathroom for teeth brushing, bathroom doors did not shut properly). Having restaurants on site was great. The waitresses we had were fantastic (especially Jasmine, who was very accommodating to us and our children). The food was good, but not great. The choices were limited, but we were always able to find something that we wanted. Overall, this was a great getaway and we are definitely thinking of making this a pre-Christmas family tradition.

The place is great...read the reviews, all true. The people are great, when you find one and one with time to assist you. Yesterday I bought the last bottle of water from the vending machine for $1.50, the room was a bit dry in this weather. 24 hours later the machine was still empty. I advised the person at the front desk and was told they would have maintenance refill soon. 2 hours later, no water. The new person at the desk told me I could purchase the water from the bar. All said and done, 4 bottles of regular bottles of water for just under $10. But the bartender was nice. It's the little things. One other tip, park your car yourself in case you want to leave in a hurry. The valet is tough to find and no where near the vending machine.

The hotel is in a pretty location, rooms and amenities are nice enough...but the service leaves a lot to be desired. Room not serviced by 2pm, and very little concern when I called to ask when it would be done. Now my four year old cannot take a nap as we wait for service.

In the tavern things are worse. On our first night there were multiple mistakes on our orders, and at lunch we waited about an hour for a very simple food order (hot dogs, burgers, salads). What made this worse was the surly attitude of the wait staff, including the head waiter, who seemed to think it was ok to tell us that he could not cook food quicker.

I've never complained before, but this is a pretty expensive stay with our extended family and it should simply be better.

Room Tip: Make sure you have comfortable pillows.

We've been going to Mountain View Grand for 4 years in the winter and summer. There are hundreds of reasons to love the resort -- the views, the grounds and gorgeous setting, the surrounding activities, many amenities -- from indoor and outdoor swimming to game room and complimentary coffee. Other hotels can compete on those factors -- but no one else has Ms. Baker, her amazing staff (Conner, Rachel, ....) and a center (books, arts and crafts, games, playground, campfire, .....) and set of activities so completely geared to pleasing children of many ages (at least 3 years old to13 years old +) and their parents.

We visited again over the holidays this year, and my elementary school children are convinced that Ms. Baker is the Holiday Angel. She and her staff pull of magic with children of all ages, abilities, and degrees of being social. She brought out her highly capable and delightful staff to cheer on my daughter who couldn't wait to show Ms. Baker that she had mastered the monkey bars. Never mind that it was 12 degrees. Within a minute her main assistant was there to spot my daughter in case her bare hands slipped on the cold bars, the others were cheering my daughter's name, and as soon as she was finished there were high five's and hot chocolate.

Ms. Baker thinks of everything, and is highly responsive to input from parents. She is warm, welcoming, inclusive, and always thinking three steps ahead. As we left after saying good-bye to Ms. Baker -- but not before she put snacks for the 3-hour drive home into my son's and daughter's backpacks -- my son whispered to my daughter, "I love Ms. Baker." We'll be going back regularly as long as Ms. Baker is there, and we encourage all of our friends who have young children.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a large (walk-in) closet if you have lots of stuff.
