We spent two nights at the Lake Motel this July as we were in the area for a wedding.

Several other members of the wedding party had also reserved here, but at least two couples had their reservations cancelled by the Motel at the last minute, for not good reason (it appears that Mitt Romney was in the area with his entourage, so there was much speculation that they were kicked out to make room for them. Yet another reason not to vote for him...)

In our case, we had reserved a large room in the Lake House, but then when I called to warn them that we would be arriving late in the evening, they told us that in fact they had moved us to a smaller room, in a brand new building that still smelt of glue and saw dust...

The website is utterly unhelpful, and often the motel could not be reached, or you reached the owner who was somewhere else and did not have access to his reservation book. Though there was a computer at reception, some of friends were told that all reservations are kept in a hand-written book, and that they couldn`t find there name there, despite the reservation having previously been accepted.

Yes, there are upsides. The location is splendid, and we regretted no having time to go swimming or rowing on the lake. The room managed to fit five of us, with the help of a roll-in bed, but it was tight. There is a great restaurant for breakfast just next door.

Nevertheless, beware, they are totally disorganized and unreliable.

We have stayed here twice, and should have learned our lesson the first time. The rooms in the main building might be okay, but the "suites" are old and need major renovation. We must have been the first people for the season staying in this one, because the refrigerator was off and HOT air poured out when we turned it on. The bathroom floor was filthy with dirt/mud, so we used wet wipes to try to clean it ourselves. The bedroom window "view"? Weeds. The bath towels were thin and very rough, and there was no hair dryer. The kitchen was "supplied" with barely usable, mismatched dishes which we didn't touch after seeing the condition of the dish drainer (no dish liquid) and dishcloth. The giant wolf spider crawling in the bathtub our last morning was the finishing touch-oh, my. They are building an addition to the main hotel, and the only thing I can hope is that they raze the "suites"-this one seems too far gone to save.

The location of this hotel is perfect. It's within walking distance to the charming village of Wolfeboro and has a picture-perfect, quiet spot on Cresent Lake. The hotel property has a long, grassy hillside which slopes down to a beautiful sandy beach on the lake. This lake is perfect for swimming, floating, and kayaking----it doesn't have the crazy boat traffic that Winnepesaukee has. We didn't know what to expect from our room, but were so pleased! We were housed in the Lake House--a newly renovated room with a King sized bed, flat screen tv, fireplace (not that we used it in the summer!), and sliding glass doors that opened onto a lovely deck with views of the lake. The room also had a mini-fridge and microwave, so we brought food and enjoyed several meals/snacks on the deck. The owner, Dave, was extremely friendly and helpful. He gave us great kayaking advice and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the areas that he suggested.

We recently stayed at the Lake Motel in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and really enjoyed the place! We used to summer up in Wolfeboro each year, as my in-laws had a cottage on Melody Island. It was difficult to have to book a motel for our stay, as we have been so spoiled in the past having had a place of our own. The Lake Motel, however, really provided us with a wonderful experience. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the room was clean and well-appointed, and the view of Crescent Lake was awesome!! We went down to the dock several times and swam in the lake. We did not take advantage of the boats that are available for guest to use, but that is certainly a bonus for the guests. Our daughter is getting married next July in Wolfeboro, and we plan to encourage all of our guests to book a room at this very special place!!

Room Tip: If possible, book a room that has a view of the lake.

We made a reservation for the weekend of July 6 over 2 months ago. Today June 29 they called us to say the construction is delayed and could not honor our reservation. We reserved a room in the OLD section so I don't understand why that affects us.

End result, don't reserve here during construction or you may be dialing for rooms a week before your trip.

My husband and I have stayed here for the last couple of years, it is beautiful, David is the best host, the lake is wonderful. He is now building new rooms that will be beautiful, but my favorite room is #3 in the lake house with a private deck! Here is a beautiful pic I took at sunset.

This was a last minute trip for Laconia Bike week. We are not "bikers", just happen to enjoy riding motorbikes, so did not want to be too near Laconia itself. This was an amazing find. Very accomodating, clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. It is a bit of a ways out of town - but walkable in good weather. The location at the edge of crystal lake is fantastic. Wish we could have been there longer to take advantage of it.
