Minerva by the Sea opened in July 2008. I stayed here in October, after having contacted them directly via their ad in one of the LBI magazines.
Minerva by the Sea is owned by the same people who own The White Whale, which is across the street from it. They have a very comprehensive website at http://www.minervasbandb.com/
Minerva's is located on the bayside of Barnegat, between Broadway & Bayside and is within easy walking distance of all the Barnegat Light attractions - the Lighthouse & Park, Andy's Bait & Tackle (and Souvenirs!), Kelly's Restaurant & the Dairy Queen etc and it is within spitting distance of Kubel's Bar & Restaurant, a Barnegat institution.
Emma, the hostess, is very welcoming and provides an excellent home-cooked breakfast selection every morning. She is trying to provide a home-style atmosphere, welcoming to families, single women and special needs clientele, as the facility is largely wheelchair friendly. It is on three floors, but has a level entrance and a lift. The building was originally an office building but has been converted to bed & breakfast accomodation.
The room I ended up staying in was initially offered to my party to accommodate three people - two adults and 11 year old child I was travelling with. I was offered a room in The White Whale Revisited (across the street), but ended up staying at Minerva's because the accommodation at The White Whale Revisited was more spacious and better suited the three people than the room at Minerva's. I think it would have been a very tight squeeze in this room for two adults and a child. The bed is a standard double bed; not a queen or king and the single bed is a chair/fold out single. When the single bed was folded out, the room felt VERY crowded, especially with suitcases etc. My cousin, with whom I was travelling, also preferred the ambiance of The White Whale Revisited.
The rooms appear to be named after plants; I stayed in Anemone.
It was all pretty much brand new and in fact, Emma was putting some finishing touches on the room as we arrived. It was clean & comfortable and there was free wireless Internet with good signal strength in the room.
If you are looking for a quiet, homey, family orientated place to stay in Barnegat Light, then Minerva's is a good choice. It does feel a bit like you are staying in some one's home, which may be a little off-putting for some people.
