My family has stayed at this motel for 3 years and it has been wonderful. If you make reservations, you MUST go to the oceanfront building. If you get booked for the annex building on a side street, you will experience the bad things other reviewers have complained about: dark dingy rooms, dirty carpets, musty odors. On the other hand, the oceanfront building is much more modern, clean, and has a great view if you book the 2nd or 3rd floor of the ocean side of the building.

The walk to the beach across about 20 feet of parking lot, then you're at the beach. This is really convenient. The beach is large and doesn't ever appear overcrowded when we've been there in either late July or late August.

The pool is nice and well cared for, though some of the cement work is showing its age.

Another reviewer complained about low water pressure. This isn't the motels problem. It's a problem of the water supply in the Beach Haven area. That's why they're building more water towers so that the pressure can be maintained during peak times of usage, e.g., late afternoon when all return from the beach and take a shower.

In short, if you stay at the oceanfront building you'll have a pleasant experience. I can't recommend the annex building but it is much cheaper if you need a motel room near the ocean.

I have been going to this place for many years with family and friends. Each year it gets a little more run down and shabby. We still have continued to go because it is RIGHT on the beach, However, the last time I was there (6/4/04), it was so bad, dirty, and just YUCKY that I realized we needed to find another place on LBI. It's too bad, because for many years it was a nice place to come to and it is a shame to let such a nice place get so run down.

We stayed at the Spray Beach Inn in 2002 on a whim, we were daytripping
but decided to stay overnight. The only place we could find with a
vacancy was the Spray Beach Inn. They required us to pay for 2 nights
even though we were staying only one (normal rule with inns/motels on
LBI), it was $250/night, so it was an expensive last-minute decision.
The room was disgusting--the moment you open the door, the stench of
mold hits you. Anyway, I think I've blocked out most of that
memory....SO, for July 4th weekend, we decided a week before to go down
the shore--bad decision...of course everything was booked up. We called
everywhere and finally found the last vacancy at Spray Beach Inn--we
had forgotten we stayed there!!! As soon as we drove up, we
remembered...they required a 3-night minimum@$250/night..and were
rewarded with another stinky room, this one had a kitchenette--a
horrible old stove with a tiny sink, a microwave and coffee maker, and
small dorm-size fridge. We had 3 adults and 2 children. They charge
extra for more than 2 adults, and charge for each of the kids, and also
for cot usage. The carpet was filthy, our kids' feet were blackened on
the bottom. We kept the windows open the entire time for ventilation.
The bathroom was the best part, it was clean. The walls are paper-thin
and we could hear everyone above and next to us. The people are very
friendly there, the restaurant has very basic but decent food, and it's
very convenient for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bartender let us
borrow wine glasses for our room, that was very nice. The pool is nice.
The beach location is great. We had to stay in a side building, not the
main building which is right on the beach. The main problem is: (1) the
moldy musty stench, which stays in your clothes, and (2) the dirtiness
of the carpet. At least it has air-conditioning, although that smells
musty too. We have heard that the Engleside Inn is much cleaner yet has
young loud people. The Buccaneer might be okay but we haven't checked
it out. We will NEVER stay here again but would eat at the restaurant.
The room was teeny and we were crammed in like sardines. There is an
outdoor eating area that is shaded, that serves drinks and food, that
is a bonus.
They have a website, ..., which portrays
the rooms as new and very clean, which they are not. The ocean building
efficiency that is portrayed is much larger and brighter than the room
we had, in the annex building. We were totally cramped. Both times
we've stayed there, we have not had oceanfront views which must make
the stay much more enjoyable. The website is good, with
rates/reservations info, etc. - Read the guestbook on the website.
Other people seem to love it! I can't figure out if they don't notice
the mustiness, or just don't care. It's a great location and the
restaurant and pool are major attractions, so people must overlook the
rooms. - We last stayed there July 4th weekend, 2003. - If they somehow
fixed the moldy, musty smell that pervades all rooms, improved the
lighting, and replaced the carpet, it would be a great place to stay. -
The bathroom, as I said, was the best part of the room, but we didn't
trust it as being clean because of the rest of the room. - The lobby
has toiletries and other items for sale such as popcorn and sunscreen,
which is convenient. - To get to the beach from the inn's bar area, you
have to hike over some big dunes. The inn has a foot shower but no
outdoor shower. - The pots and pans and utensils provided in the
efficiency were very old and inadequate--pretty disgusting, actually.
We had to buy our own plasticware and cups and used their stuff as
little as possible. The kitchen cabinets were old and disgusting. The
microwave and coffeemaker were clean. - We are in our early 30's with 2
young children ages 3 and 5. - Additional guests are $10-12/each, based
on season, charged above 2 people. - Cots/cribs cost $7 each. -
Children ages 3-5 are $5 each.
