“The best place to stay on LBI!”
Reviewed 14 August 2009

This was our fourth stay at the Victoria, and as always, it was wonderful. These two historic homes are tastefully decorated and rooms are comfortable and roomy. They are only a few houses away from the beach and everything else LBI has to offer - Surflight Theatre is across the street, shopping and restaurants are all within walking distance. You can spend quiet time sitting on the porch sipping ice tea or visit the water park or play miniature golf only a few blocks away. The pool is another plus. Breakfast is fantastic, an array of baked goods, breads, cereals, fruits and a cooked item each day like blueberry waffles, or sausage and egg casserole. The Millers are friendly and helpful innkeepers, and AC is only a 40 minute ride if you want to gamble. Always a great time here!

My sisters and I went on our very first "sisters' getaway" and wanted a place that could accomodate three of us in one room. We found it at Victoria Guest House. Our room had a king bed and a cot. I was a little nervous when I was told one of us would have to sleep on a cot, but much to my delight, the cot was very comfortable.
The VGH is very clean and quiet. The location is perfect. The hosts, John and Judy, are very friendly and accomodating. Everything you need for a day at the beach is provided - beach towels, beach badges, beach bag, beach chairs, and ice cold bottled water. The bikes are great for a quick ride to the downtown shops or a tour of the area. The pool is a bonus.
Of course a B&B review isn't complete without a comment about the food. DELICIOUS!! (And too much, but that is my problem :) Every morning there was a bountiful spread of fresh fruit, baked goods, cereal, bagels, coffee, juice, and a hot dish. Coffee, tea, chai, and hot chocolate are also available throughout the day with John's fancy-schmancy coffee maker. After a quick lesson, we were hooked.
Thank you to John and Judy for making our "sisters' getaway" extra special. I highly recommend the Victoria Guest House.

My wife and I returned today from a five-day stay at Victoria Guest House...our fourth consecutive annual visit. Having been a vacationer on NJ's LBI since childhood, I can say conclusively that we've found the perfect accommodations. Hosts John and Judy Miller make their guests feel like they have their own house on the beach. There's much to be said about this B&B - all the standard amenities are there. This review will focus on some of the intangibles and other amenities that separate VGH from the rest of the pack.

1) Location. A block and a half from the beach. Right across the street from a park. Right in the heart of Beach Haven and walking distance from great shops, restaurants, family amusement parks, boat rentals, etc. This is one of the most desirable spots on the island.

2) Rooms. There are essentially two guest houses to choose from (Guest House I and Guest House II), each with six rooms. All are very charming, roomy, comfortable and immaculately cleaned daily. Towels, sheets, etc. are in excellent condition. There is no feeling of being crowded as the property provides plenty of room for all guests.

3) Breakfast. The breakfasts are great. Each morning, guests are treated to a combination buffet/specialty breakfast. There is plenty of fresh fruit, baked goods, cereals, juices, etc. to choose from. In addition, the hosts prepare a specialty item each day (fresh waffles, French toast, quiche, pancakes). Throughout the day, guests have access to tea, coffee and snacks.

4) Hosts. John and Judy have it down to a science in terms of guest interaction. It is a skill to determine when certain guests would like their own space or when friendly conversation and interaction is desired. If you want to feel like family, they accommodate. If you'd rather enjoy a bit more seclusion, not a problem.

5) Intangibles. This list could be lengthy. Here are some things that stand out to me and my wife: heated pool (great to enjoy after a day at the beach), refrigerator full of bottled water, brand new beach chairs (very comfortable and functional for beach use), all the beach essentials (large towels, canvas beach bag, beach badges), both houses have large wrap-around porches (very comfortable and well-appointed), great stories and unique island history from John's family (father, mother and dog, Maggie, live nearby), while check-out is 11:00 AM, guests can stay longer and utilize outdoor showers and on-site restrooms to make a full day of your departure day. An example of a VGH intangible: John noticed my wife's bottle of Grey Goose vodka was near empty towards the end of our trip. After coming back to the house from dinner/shopping one evening, a brand new bottle appeared in our refrigerator. How often do things like that happen?

All-in-all, if you enjoy the B&B vacation model, you will love Victoria Guest House. Just please stay out of room 5 or 6 in Guest House II during the first week of August (it's mine).

Enjoyed two nights at the "Victoria Guest House" A very clean, quite and friendly place to rest. Amenities and the food were just great. Close to the beach and this place had a pool which added to your rest. We just parked the car when we arrived and did not have to use it until we left to go to home. When going back to LBI, would try to get a room here again.

My wife and I stayed for one night at the Victoria Guest House and had the most amazing stay. The House is very clean and pretty (old school Victorian that has been renovated and is decorated beautifully). The breakfast in the morning is very good and you can enjoy it on this huge porch or even in the backyard of the house. The House is located one block from the beach and is walking distance to a few bars and restaurants. Long Beach Island is very family oriented but also great for couples. My wife and I enjoyed walking to the beach (at night and day) and also biking around in the morning after a large breakfast (the bikes at the House are complimentary - along with the chairs for the beach). Overall, I would definitely recommend this B&B to friends and family.

My husband and I opted to stay at a bed and breakfast for our 3 day stay in LBI as opposed to a hotel for around the same price. We found a gem in Victoria Beach House.
The rooms were very, very clean but ours had a continuous "beach" smell - musty, like when a beach house is closed up all winter and it's just opened for the season. Once we ran the air conditioner for about 24 hours the smell subsided (or did we get used to it?). Also, the air conditioner did not cool off the room until we had it on for at least a 24 hour period also. Aside from the a/c clicking off and all all night , the area is very quiet and peaceful.
Also, don't expect shampoo and scented liquid soaps or even a large room......but DO EXPECT - beach towels, a wonderful breakfast, availability of beach chairs and bikes to use, a heated pool, and kindness and generous hospitality from the host and hostess.
So....it's just a tradeoff as to whether you want an ordinary hotel or a warm and cozy atmosphere in a great location and a block from the beach. We would return again.
