“magnificent monarchs”
Reviewed 30 November 2011

we learned about the complete life cycle of these wanders. the center had beautiful examples of the pupa. these look exactly like a glass bead with gold bans. then we went to the triangle garden and experienced the gorgeous butterflies as they lit upon the plants. it was sunny, warm and perfect!

“Fantastic experience for early summer”
Reviewed 14 June 2011

My wife and I signed up for their Harbor Safari, but because we happen to be the only 2 to do so , it was cancelled. We did spend some time at the Nature Center taking in the sights of the bay. They had many other educational activities planned for summer. The center refunded our money and set us up with the a kayak tour with the group that runs out of the center. I think it was Nature trails. Trip was great. Would not recommend for young kids or not athletic individual during the height of summer, because you have to cross the main boating channel to get to the marsh. Once on the way out, then again on your return.

“The simplicity of nature at its best.”
Reviewed 10 March 2011

The Nature Center of Cape May is not one of those fancy bells and whistles environmental education facilities, but it a wonderful, welcoming center where my family and I had a great few hours enriching ourselves about the wonders of the natural world. The welcome center building has a fantastic view of Cape May Harbor from its deck and lookout tower which my kids had a great time climbing and using the binoculars provided by the friendly staff. We took several programs throughout the week including our favorite Harbor Safari where we "seined" for critters in the water of the bay.

“Aqua Trails Sunset Kayaking at the Cape May Nature Center is the best”
Reviewed 7 August 2010

A friend recommended we try kayaking on the salt marsh. Thera are several companies who do this, but we picked the one next to the Cape May Nature Center (Aqua Trails) The guides there--Cape May High school science teachers--were so friendly and laid-back but really informative. One of them shepherded my 13-yr old and her friend through the whole trip (2+ hours). They stopped at an island on the way and cast nets to show us local fish. The guides pointed out birds along the way -- they are clearly passionate about their work! They provided snacks (trailmix/granola bars) and bottled water. It was such a great experience. I highly recommend it. They rent single and double kayaks, so a younger child (maybe 8+?) could go with a parent.

“It's the Bronx (or Cape May) Zoo... And that's a good thing...”
Reviewed 27 July 2008

I've been going to Widwood with my family for over two decades and found the Cape May Nature Center only about five years ago.

It's is a quaint little nature center, with nothing more than a few fish tanks and a large tidal basin tank. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to entertain the kids for a few hours, or want to see the smaller creatures that live in the waters off of Cape May county, this is the place to go.

If you truly appreciate nature, you will appreciate the simplicity and intimacy of the Cape May Nature Center.

(NOTE: In the past year or so, the nature center has undergone a major renovation and now features multiple decks that are perfect for bird and boat watching.)
