“Great Hospitality”
Reviewed 6 August 2009

I visited Cape May for the first time with my husband and had a great experience. I stayed at the Carol Villa Hotel based on other trip advisor reviews which I depend on for most of my travels. The Carol Villa Hotel was located in town and convenient for shopping, restaurants and the beach. Cheetah, who made my reservation over the phone and checked us in was very hospitable and accomaditing to all our needs. The hotel is very clean I would stay there again if i return.

I really don't get the reviews of this hotel. Our first night we stayed in the Annex. The stairs leading up to our room were really creaky and narrow. The carpet was old and filthy. Once in our room we noticed torn wallpaper and a ceiling that was in need of repair. The bathroom was new and clean but nothing special. Our sheets were really old and ragged. The place was so old and dingy that I was actually worried about fire.

The second night we were moved to the main hotel because of availabilty problems (which I knew about before I booked). The room in the main hotel was more charming and not as dismal. However the carpet was also really dirty and the whole building needs a lot of repairs. Our room here was really damp and a little smelly.

The best part of staying at the hotel is the breakfasts. We were given coupons for breakfast. The food was delicious at the restaurant. Even if I don't stay at the hotel - I will come back for breakfast.
All in all our stay was ok. Cape May has some beautiful chaming B&B's that have been lovingly restored. Carroll Villa may have been great several years ago - but now it needs some work.

Thank you for your review. We are a 135 National Landmark Building. The building is always in a process of renovation and fixture.
Fifteen years ago we had 34 rooms. Now we 21 rooms all with private bath.
The hallways are narrow. I imagine people were smaller than or that was the footprint the builders had to work with.
The building has a sprinkler system through out the building.
We do have a full time maintenance man and housekeeper who try to maintain our property.
We try very hard to main a high quality of sheets and towels and do all this in service.
We hope that you come back and enjoy our hospitality.
Best Wishes

Having a voucher for the Mad Batter Restaurant (in the same building) that was good for either breakfast or lunch -- good up until 3 pm -- was the best deal I ever experienced at a B&B! The days were mine to plan, and the flexibility worked beautifully, especially on the last day.

We stayed here one night and enjoyed it. The location is great as it's less than a block from the beach. The room looked great and was very private. As others mentioned, the Mad Hatter is a good place to eat breakfast.

I have a few small complaints though. You have to park several blocks away and then walk (which isn't their fault really). Also, you have to walk thru the restaurant with all your luggage trying not to hit any tables. Finally, we were on the 3rd floor and had to lug our luggage up the tiny stairwell.

Our stay at Carroll Villa was memorable to say the least. I'd recomend it to anyone that wants to have a fun, relaxed vacation with a short walk to the beach and a nice bike ride to the light house.

This was our 3rd stay at the Carroll Villa, the last one being a few years ago. Coming back here was once again proven to be a wise choice. The welcome at check-in was friendly and our room was ready when expected. We received a daily breakfast voucher and a 30% off offer for dinner one evening.

The room (#26) was small, charming, clean and nicely decorated. We had a flat screen tv in the room and a refrigerator. Wireless internet access worked fine. Everything was very satisfactory. A word of warning...if you are looking for large resort-like amenities this isn't the place to go. This is a bed and breakfast style hotel.

Breakfast was delicious and so was our dinner at their Mad Batter restaurant. It's highly recommended so use that 30% off voucher if it's being offered.

Parking was in a lot a short distance from the hotel (pleasant 5-10 minute walk) and the hotel provided beach towels. Happy hour was from 4-6 and it was nice to grab a drink and relax before dinner. Enjoy your trip to Cape May, it's a beautiful town with a great beach and friendly people, one of the true gems of the East Coast beach towns.

A cozy room with beautiful details. Perfect for two people in love. This hotel is in a perfect location. Nearly everything in Cape May is within walking distance. The Mad Batter is one of the best breakfast places in all of Cape May. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to stay in a classic Victorian hotel and doesn't mind forgoing some modern amenities other hotels may offer, such as a microwave, refrigerator, or large TV.
