“great winter getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2014

My husband and I needed a long weekend vacation and this hotel was one of the few on the beach and with a restaurant that was available and the off-season rate was very reasonable. we were on the third floor with a king bed. the room was nice, tho I have to admit I'd be hesitant to pay the in-season rate. we appreciated the built in cubby shelves in the closet and good amount of shelf space in the bathroom. we didn't make a lot of plans for this trip and relied on the front desk staff to direct us to restaurants and bars open in January (we didn't anticipate so many would be closed) and got great recommendations/directions. sure, it's an old place with its quirks but that's what you get with historic inns. If you want to be directly on the beach in cape may you're going to get the noise from the road and nearby bars, esp if your room is on a lower floor. it would have bummed me out if staff hadn't been nice, as stated in other reviews and am glad we didn't have that problem!

Room Tip: if you're sensitive to noise get a room on a higher floor

This place is weird. The guy at the desk was really negative and the room had water dripping from the ceiling. The view was nice, but the room was small and I didn't sleep well in the bed. It's also overpriced. I've stayed in small beach motels for less money that were better maintained. I wouldn't stay here again.

The hotel sits next to a bar, it was loud until 2 am. The rooms are old and musty and gross. The free breakfast is about the only great thing about this place. Overpriced and in need of some renovations. The staff is very nice but honestly seem a little clueless. Too many other nice places in Cape May to stay to ever come back

In mid-December 2013, I stayed in Room 119 at the Marquis de Lafayette in Cape May. While, small, it was very comfy - clean, neat and well-equipped with a hair dryer, fridge, microwave and coffee pot - and since it was just me and my small dog, we fared very well. Right across from the beach, I could hear the waves which was quite nice - and the free breakfast was great! The staff was very nice and helpful as well. I'll be back.

Room Tip: A little noise on the road side, but tolerable. Very sunny and bright.

A group of us (5 ladies) stayed at this hotel last weekend for a Christmas in Cape May trip. This was the only hotel that had any rooms left so we didn't have much of a choice. Regardless, I tried to book online but the prices were ludicrous so I called to see if they could give me a better rate, which they did. MUCH better. We arrived around 10:30AM and to our delight, the room was ready. It was a Cape May suite which sleeps 6 but space was very, very tight. The double beds were barely bigger than a twin and it was quite an uncomfortable night's sleep. Still, everything was very clean and neat and the staff we encountered during our stay were nice. Location was perfect, right in the heart of (mostly) everything Cape May has to offer.

The best thing was the breakfast buffet. They had every breakfast item you could imagine and everything was hot and delicious. We stuffed ourselves silly. If I was able to get a decent rate, I would have no problem staying at this hotel again.
