“EXCELLENT SERVICE”
Reviewed 23 May 2011

Stayed here for a weekend to attend a wedding. Quaint hotel with updated bathrooms. Room was a little small, but let's face it, we weren't here to spend all of our time in the room. Good location - a quick walk to beach, restaurants, shopping. Service was EXCELLENT! Needed a hairdryer and an iron upon check in and both were provided quickly - needed help with bags upon check out and help was there within a minute. WiFi in the room was quick. The only draw back was parking. If you couldn't find a spot close to the hotel on the street, the lot is about a 15 minute walk.

The Alcott is well located just one block from the beach. The hotel is large and the front desk staff are very friendly and welcoming, and helpful. The hotel itself is a bit of a disappointment though, given the price. The rooms are just ok. We were told we were getting a queen in a corner room with views. While we did have a corner room, it was a double bed. Comfortable, but no queen. The rooms are a bit scuffed and battered. The bathrooms are big and spacious but could use a touch up. The nicest feature is the back porch area, which is lovely. Wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again. Walking around town the next day, it seemed there were better, though more than likely more expensive places, nearby. No on site parking, which is also a pain. Reliable WIFI and it's free.

Stayed at Hotel Alcott 3 nights this past week with my husband for a short getaway. The Hotel is charming and in a great location. Had a room on 2nd floor with balcony.
Kate and her staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. The entire place is immaculate.
Afternoon cookies and lemonade are a nice touch. We will be returning again soon.

Decided last minute to spend some time in Cape May NJ. Stopped by the Hotel Alcott to get some pricing. A charming hotel that is the 2nd oldest in Cape May . Our hostess, Kate, gave us a great rate in a lovely room that overlooked a garden. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable as well as clean. It also came with a very good continental breakfast. Kate was knowlegeable about places to go and eat. I would definitely recommend it. Very friendly courteous service.

We spent 5 nights at the Hotel Alcott last week and have only praise for
this wonderful hotel. Other reviews have mentioned the standard room size
being small; but anyone staying at a historic hotel should expect this - - rooms just were not built as large as modern day hotels. Since most people who go to a beach resort do not spend much time in their hotel room except to sleep, I do not consider room size a deterent at all. All the other pluses of the hotel outweight the size of the room. Having a robe and slippers provided was a special treat not often provided except in higher-priced hotel - plus the bed was the most comfortable at any hotel
I've stayed. The hotel was well maintained and had a nice "homey" feel.
The continental breakfast was very convenient, adequate, and included in the price of the room. Only being one block from the beach and convenient to walk or bike to the main historic area of Cape May was wonderful. But most of all, the service staff was friendly - - treat you like they really wanted you to be there and to talk to you as a person, not just another paying client or "number". Hats off to friendly staff #1 - - that being "Miss Kate" as I affectionately like to call her - - always had a smile and so easy to talk to! She was a sweetheart. We definitely will be back and recommend to all.

My uncle was visiting New Jersey and was interested in spending a night in Cape May. After finding the Hotel Alcott on line, I called and spoke with Kate about reserving 2 rooms. She was extremely helpful and made sure to book my uncle a room on the second floor due to a foot injury. When we arrived we were very happily surprised to see a lovely porch and lobby. Our rooms were extremely nice and the bathrooms were obviously just redone. The flat screen tv's were a very nice touch! Everything was comfortable and very, very clean. We enjoyed the continental breakfast........the crossiants were fabulous! Every staff member we encountered couldn't have been nicer or more helpful! I will definitely be back!

We just returned from a three night stay at the Hotel Alcott. We had a great time. First let me say that the other reviewers were correct in saying that the rooms were small. (very small) , however they were very clean and the bed and linens were top notch. Even the towels were soft and plentiful. The breakfast each morning was good, fresh baked muffins and croissants, bagels, fresh fruit and a few cereals to choose from. The afternoon snacks were a nice touch although I wish coffee and tee were offered along with the cookies. The staff was pleasant and attentive to guests needs, one day we forgot to remove the privacy sign from the door and when we returned they had left a basket of fresh towels & soap with a note that they were sorry they missed us. ( a nice touch). Now the only real down side for me ... no window screens and the doors are very thin and not easy to lock. I am glad that the hotel was not full our first two nights because you could hear out in the hallway. Over all for the price and the location I will definately be returning.
