“Loved it!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I was pleasantly surprised! It doesn't look like much from the outside but the lobby is beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were modern and comfortable. We had our 10 and 8 year old with us so all of us in one room was a bit cramped but we knew that going in. And the location really can't be beat. Reviewers who complain about lack of beach views and noise and having to walk up a measly few flights of stairs clearly didn't do their research. It's across the street from the beach, but also across the street from the promenade and arcade, and, well...noise. The hotel has a fantastic looking restaurant which we hope to try next visit. It also has a great little bagel shop. Overall we had a great time and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the stairwell to avoid the noise of other guests.

My boyfriend and I love going to Cape May but sometimes struggle finding places we can afford. Luckily we found Hotel Macomber! It is in an amazing location right across from the beach and close enough to the shops and restaurants. It has a beautiful wrap around porch where we would sit and have a few beers and enjoy the sunset. It also has a restaurant, although we never ate in the restaurant because we always preferred to venture out and try different places but people said the food was good. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. There really was nothing to complain about. This is a great place for couples but we also saw a lot of families there, as well. There are so many great options for visitors in Cape May but I would definitely recommend this place for people looking to save a few bucks.

So glad you and your boyfriend enjoyed staying with us! Our goal is to provide an easy and affordable get away so you can enjoy your time off. After all, isn't that what vacation is all about? I'm happy to hear you both were able to relax on our porch and watch the sunset, and that your rooms were comfortable. Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. It was wonderful to see you, and I hope you'll come back next time you're visiting Cape May.

My husband and I stayed with our two kids in a room with two full beds. It was small but for the amount of time we spent there, it was fine. There were enough towels for everyone, the tv worked, the beds were comfy, the shower stayed hot even after the fourth person cleaned off, the ac worked fine although it came on at regular intervals over the bed which woke my husband up a lot. But, it was a new place to sleep so I'll put it down to that. We had a view of the roofs and strip of beach, but the view wasn't top on our list of things we really cared about. The Front desk were friendly and accommodating and let us check in a little earlier. The maid service was good. We were on the tippy top floor so yes, we were fully aware of the number of stairs. They have chairs on some of the landings if you need to take a break.
Nighttimes were a little noisy but that is not the fault of the hotel; other guests come back late and a few sheets to the wind and they forget how loud the doors sound when slammed. Also, we spent the first night next to a room with a crying baby. Again, not the fault of the hotel. The place is old and historic, so I would suggest bringing earplugs to shut out some of the nocturnal comings and goings.
All in all, we would definitely stay here again. Perhaps without the kids. And in one of those rooms with its own balcony that I looked at forlornly as I climbed another set of stairs.

Stayed here with some friends for a girls weekend and found accommodations to be perfect! Room #37 was HUGE and #38 was also a good size. Liked that each room had a refrigerator in it. Nice location across the street from the beach, arcade and shops with lots of places nearby to grab breakfast. Reasonable walking distance to the strip of malls/shops.

My boyfriend and I went to Cape May this summer, and we had trouble finding places that were in our budget during the on-season. We stumbled upon the Hotel Macomber, and it was a great price and looked very nice. All expectations were exceeded. The customer service was excellent. The room was very nice. It was clean, smelled great, and was very comfortable. It wasn't huge, so I don't know how great it would be for a family, but it worked quite well for us. I would highly recommend this hotel especially for couples!

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so if you have trouble with stairs, it is best to stay on the lower floors.

I was very disappointed with the views of the ocean this hotel afforded.
Directly across the street, in front of the shore is not only a strip mall but a Convention center, which, incidentally, we had to use from time to time, because the hotel did not offer a restroom in the lobby. Although the room was clean, there was a dampness to it. The blankets on the bed felt wet to the touch. The bathroom sink was extremely small, and had little space to put your toiletries. No phones in the rooms, so unless you feel like hiking up and down as much as 4 floors, make sure you have nothing to inquire of the desk. The television was no larger than 20". Although the staff is quick to return calls, they got the accommodations wrong. I was upset we had a Queen instead of a King like I thought I ordered; I found out the next evening that friends we vacationed with were not happy with the King they had instead of the queen they ordered. The spacious porch is homey. If you don't mind looking down the street to see some beach, do it standing because the the horizontal bar from the porch railing is pretty much eye height when sitting on the rocking chair.

We want our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed, so I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay. While our historic building isn't equipped with modern conveniences such as an elevator or large TVs, we think that the rustic charm shines through. That said, our guest's comfort is our top priority and I'd like to apologize for the dampness caused by humidity. Were you able to mention this to the front desk? We would have been happy to change your sheets on the spot, and have fresh sheet available for each night of your stay.

I agree with you that our view isn't as magnificent as it once was since the strip mall and Convention Center were built. However, I'm pleased you were able to take in the view from our porch.

Thank you for your feedback. I hope you will consider staying with us again to give us a chance to prove we have what it takes to give you the amazing vacation you deserve.

All the best,
Crystal, GM

Renovated Rooms, Beach Location that can't be beat and budget friendly prices. Old Hotel sits across the Convention Center Promenade. Large Porch to enjoy, plenty of parking and friendly staff on site. They redid the baths, bedding, carpets, AC. We had a huge room 37 with an amazing ocean view. Only downside for a few would be lots of steps to carry luggage up past 2nd floor, no elevator.

Room Tip: Room 37 was huge and can fit a small family. Ocean front on 3rd floor was quiet.
