My husband and I stayed here for a few annual trips to Cape May. The inn is beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. And I loved the afternoon wine and cheese and the breakfasts served. They were so enjoyable. The down sides though, are what made us move to La Mer next door for our subsequent Cape May trips. We paid extra for the Jacuzzi tub and fireplace in our room, but they wouldn't turn the gas on for the fireplace because they said it wasn't cold enough. We go in October! The evenings were definitely chilly enough to substantiate the fireplace. And since we paid extra for the room with the fireplace, I would expect to be able to use it. There is also a cute little balcony outside the two highest priced rooms, but the inn hosts so many weddings and events, the balcony is usually occupied by something associated with one of the events. This place really is an adorable inn, but I don't like amenities dangled in front of me (one of which I pay extra for) and then not be able to use them. And just for the sake of being honest, we were last there in October 2011. The drop down menu would not let me pick that far back.

We selected Peter Shields Inn to mark our wedding anniversary. I would return in a heartbeat! The Inn was immaculate, the staff was extremely accommodating, and the location across from the beach was perfect, as well as quiet. The room was very nicely appointed and extremely clean. Included in our stay was a lovely wine and cheese service on the second floor living room, overlooking the ocean, and a beautiful breakfast the next morning on the screened veranda with a beautiful view. Also included were bikes for a lovely ride in Cape May, beach chairs, umbrella and use of the outdoor shower, as long as wanted after checking out the next day. Staying at Peter Shields Inn was like having a home away from home, with everything we needed. This is a perfect getaway to the Jersey Shore.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 overlook the ocean. While we had room 4 with the largest bathroom and balcony, the balcony looked over the parking lot. however, the open door was nice for a breeze.

Can't go wrong... we were VERY hesitant to book another "B&B" after our uncomfortable Temecula CA wine country experience, but this was not THAT! This "Inn" was large enough to allow us to 'blend in' so as not to feel like we invaded someone's home!
Free WiFi, free 'bikes' to borrow for a beach ride, very nice beach towels and chairs to borrow at our leisure. Amenities that most really small, traditional B&B's don't offer...an awesome body scrub in our bath, body/hair soaps, REALLY soft linens and towels. We missed the wine & cheese offered in the late afternoon, but they offer a 'snack' room on the 2nd floor with waters, soda's, homemade cookies, coffee/fee. In the morning, they offer a full breakfast (made to order) included with the stay. This was a GREAT option and should not be missed to one of the local 'vanilla' motels near by.
The 'manager' (we think Sean) was a great host! Gave us a tour, showed us around and then disappeared! Very friendly... but not crazy in our face! LOVE Peter Shields Inn!

Room Tip: Get there early enough if possible to enjoy the wine/cheese reception. I had dinner at the Inn (it was 'restaurant week') and we also had breakfast that was included... the room (#5) was small... but the bathroom was very nice size and the cleanliness and amenities by far made up for the 'smaller' room (which we still loved!)

My husband & I took our good friends to Cape May to thank them for helping us renovate our kitchen. We looked for a Bed & Breakfast that was small, intimate, on the beach and had great food. This place is all that and more. They did not forget any detail when they opened this B&B. A warm & inviting atmosphere where you have an opportunity to meet and socialize with the other guests if you choose. We were lucky to make some new friends while there. All the staff were helpful, friendly and professional. Food in restaurant is fantastic, They do ask at dinner you dress up a bit. No beach attire which is not a big deal. Men should bring shirt with collar and dress shorts or summer slack. No sneakers or flip flops!! It is worth the effort when you are served great food, prepared by a great chef and served by fantastic staff. Ladies wear a nice skirt, sundress or summer pants, The beach is just stroll across the street and they provide beach towels, chairs and outside private shower after you return!! Fresh homemade cookies, coffee, tea and drinks available 24/7 on upper level. Wine, cheese and fruit were served everyday at 4:30, which we really enjoyed. Felt like I was at my grandmothers house!! Highly recommend this place! We shall return !!!

Room Tip: Rooms 1& 2 have great views and best bathrooms but are near area where the hotel has wine& cheese every afternoon at 4:30 that is complimentary. We stayed in room 6 which had ocean view but not unless standing up but a very lovely room and we were on,y in it to sleep so no big deal. Beds are very comfortable!!Room 7 is great too with lovely view.

There are times when you are blessed with the best possible luck selecting a hotel far from home. On our net search we found a couple of larger hotels and lots of B&B's that looked interesting, but most had queen beds. Most were built over a hundred years ago when double beds were the norm. We picked this hotel because it looked interesting and had a king.

We were blown away by the elegance of this 100 year old house. It is immaculate and furnished. There are 8 guest rooms. Ours was up the central staircase, on the third floor facing the ocean, with a small, elegantly appointed bathroom.

The comfortable room, the view, wine and cheese hour on the porches and first class breakfast are an excellent value in luxury travel.

The staff helpful but not quite in tunewith the character of the place. Sort of like having the upstairs maid greeting guests.

How can you beat being on Beach Road, and about a mile from the middle of the historic district. Ride there on the free bicycles.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view, but the back side is also great, overlooking another beautiful victorian hotel. No elevator to rooms.
