“A very inviting B&B”
Reviewed 1 August 2011

Inside and out, the Luther Ogden Inn provided us with a lovely experience. Outside – the wrap-around porch beckoned each morning with coffee and delicious breakfasts, and we thoroughly enjoyed it again each afternoon and evening where we sipped wine. The inn is wonderfully located – walking distance from the beach and shops, but far from any noise. Inside - all was immaculate and very roomy. We could not have asked more from our hosts who were not only friendly and welcoming, but who also graciously allowed us to use their outdoor shower to rinse off from the beach after we checked out. The parking lot is an added bonus, as parking is at a premium in Cape May. We would definitely return!

We spent 4 days here and had a wonderful stay. The location is perfect; 2 blocks to the beach, 2 blocks to the shopping mall, walking distance to many great restaurants, on site parking. What more could one want? Jan and Mark were gracious hosts and they provided excellent breakfasts each morning. Our room #2 was well decorated (but not ornate), clean, cool, and the bed was super comfortable. My wife slept better than at home. There was no closet, but hey, this was a beach vacation, and there was plenty of room in the dressers for the type of clothing we brought. I would most definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Cape May.

We have stayed at the Luther Ogden Inn for 13 years and are looking forward to our next stay in October. The rooms are always spotless and very comfortable. Jan and Mark are 2 of the nicest people we know. Their wonderful personalities make each visit a delight. They go out of their way to make your visit great. Jan even returned to a store with me when I was cheated out of an item. They always have interesting stories to tell, suggestions for dinner and events to attend. They have become more like friends than Innkeepers. The front porch is perfect for reading or enjoying some wine and cheese. We look forward to our trip every year and we are never disappointed.

This inn is absolutely fabulous. From the cedar shake exterior with wrap around porch and the beautiful antiques we felt so comfortable. Our room was spacious and well furnished. We loved the delicious breakfasts. Jan and Mark were very polite and entertaining as we conversed with them on the front porch each morning. It is evident that this is their calling as when we left we all hugged. We were saddened to leave but have our fond memories of The Luther Ogden Inn. This is a MUST place to stay in CM!

When we discovered the Luther Ogden Inn the year before, we knew we found "our" Bed & Breakfast. Besides having awesome breakfasts, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the owners make you feel very much at home. It is located just a short walk from the beach and is located on a quiet side street, yet within a short distance to all the restaurants and shops. Take it from someone who has stayed at a lot of the other Bed & Breakfasts in Cape May, this one is the best!

My best friend and I made reservations to visit Cape May a little on the late side and settled for what appeared to be a good deal. We didn't get what we paid for. The room was small and without a closet, instead we got 2 hangers and a hook on the back of the door. The TV and air conditioning worked and the beds were ok but everything else seemed old and worn. The most disturbing qualilty are the innkeepers themselves. They seemed to use the inn as the main source of their social life. They hovered and interupted conversations. Worse, their hospitality was reluctant at best. When I arrived from the beach unexpectedly having left the key to the room with my friend, it seemed to be an imposition for them to let me into the room.
The area is so lovely and the beach was wonderful. The Luther Ogden is close to downtown and the beach and that is really the best thing about the hotel. I wouldn't return.

Room Tip: All the rooms were fairly similar with different size beds.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at our inn. Actually, I was quite surprised by the review. You seemed to be enjoying yourself as you sipped your wine on the wraparound porch and read your electronic book (even through breakfast). You took our restaurant recommendation and liked your meal and experience at the restaurant with the piano bar. We graciously allowed you to use the beach chairs and keep your car in the parking lot long after check-out time. In short, we were friendly and welcoming to you as we are to all of our guests. You are right...the house is old. Built in 1900, houses did not have spacious closets. If you needed more hangers, all you had to do was ask. Sometimes guests inadvertently take our hangers with them when they leave. I am truly surprised that you considered your room to be small. It had 2 beds (one king and one twin), a dresser, a night stand, a small table, a fireplace, a TV, and a large shower that could easily hold 6 people. Again, I apologize for your experience. Perhaps the anonimity of a hotel would have better suited your expectations and personality.

Jan and her husband Mark welcomed us at the door. They were friendly and helpful and made our stay comfortable and cozy. Jan serves a wonderful breakfast too! I particularly liked that the Luther Ogden Inn is set back a few streets from the bars and restaurants. It's quiet and comfortable accommodation with a quick and easy walk to the "nightlife".
