Pleasent experience with staff, good kayaks at reasonable prices. Salt marsh is not the most entralling place to paddle.

We had a wonderful experience with Cape Kayaks last week. As experienced paddlers, we opted to rent kayaks independently rather than join up with one of their guided groups. They were able to offer us "sit-in" (which I prefer due to issues with my back) as well as "sit on top" kayaks. I didn't find any other rental outlet on the southern shore that offered this option. The girls that run this shop also run a take-out seafood shack at the same time. It was amazing how smoothly they were able to keep both operations going. I was amazed by their professionalism, speed and friendliness. The boat load ramp was convenient and offered easy access in and out of the boat. We were given clear directions for our route. We thoroughly enjoyed snaking through the wetlands and spying osprey and egrets nesting nearby. It was a peaceful and beautiful afternoon. In past seasons, we've rented in Stone Harbor, Avalon and Wildwood, but this was by far the best experience. There was absolutely no boat traffic, plenty to see, and an on-site boat launch. Add in that the price was reasonable and the staff was helpful, polite and friendly...and you need to look no further. Don't forget to bring sunscreen and water. We'll definitely rent from Cape Kayaks on our future trips to the Jersey shore. We may even take a GUIDED trip...we liked this establishment so much.

We were at Cape May for bird watching, and we got plenty of it kayaking the back bays. We spotted 4 osprey directly above us. Did you know they call to each other while in flight? Snowy egrets, cormorants, and much more were spotted. We rented 2 kayaks for the 1pm slot with our guide. It was just past high tide. The marsh island we encircled was a good arm excercise for the first hour since the waters were ebbing and we were paddling against the tide. The day was cool and sunny with a nice breeze, so we didn't get cooked in the sun (August could be real hot in the sun.) Also, no bugs at all. This was the 3rd time I have ever kayaked. Our guide was patient with our fumbling around in the water.

After searching for a kayaking place based on price and ratings, I chose to go with Cape kayaks. If you want to guarantee your spot you can send them a message from their website. We chose to take the 1pm tour which meant the sun was high and bright in the sky, I would recommend using at least SPF50 suntan lotion. The tour takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to complete, and takes you into the salt marsh as well as a small section of the bay. Check the tides...during low tide there will be less paths you can take in the salt marsh, but you'll see more birds looking for food. We went during the low tide which allowed us to see a lot of birds along with frogs, crabs, and mussels. Bring a drink because you'll want something while out on the water. They offer free use of their Dry Bags to store items that need to keep dry while kayaking. Our tour guide was knowledgeable on the salt marsh and cape's ecosystem and answered all of our questions. If your not use to working with your hands you might end up with a blister from paddling. I used my Fuji XP10 waterproof camera for some photo ops.

Overall we had a wonderful time and would love to go again, maybe during high tide to see the differences. This is a great excursion for locals and tourists, relaxing and informative. They accept Visa and MC. Bring the suntan lotion and have a good time because Cape Kayaks offers a great experience for beginners to the more experienced kayakers.
