As a local resident we are fortunate to have many great restaurants that open seasonally, but there are too many to hit them all in one season. So, recently we re-visited Frescos after having not been there for a couple of seasons. We had heard that there were some changes but hoped that the quality and service would still be as we had experienced in the past. I am happy to report that the restaurant still stands out as a top Italian establishment in Cape May.
The menu has some lovely new additions, but has kept many of the Frescos classics, including the Shrimp and Scallops Pescatore and Osso Bucco, our choices for the night. We began our meal with some grilled garlic cheese bread and a generous size pear salad with gorgonzola cheese and the mozzarella stuffed zuchini blossoms, a special that night. All were great. The seafood in the Pescatore was jumbo and the cream sauce was light, as not to overpower the delicate flavor of the shrimp and scallops. The Osso Bucco was so tender and the risotto that accompanied it was creamy and delicious. We shared the Lemon Ricotta Cheesecake for dessert as we were too full to order two from the varied list.
Our server was very pleasant and attentive without being intrusive, allowing us to have a fairly uninterrupted meal and enjoy a much needed night out. Frescos is BYOB, another plus in our book, but if you forget they do have some bottles from Cape May Winery available for purchase.
Overall it was a great night, and we look forward to returning.
