We absolutely love this Inn and the innkeeper, Rita. We have stayed in many places throughout the years, and no where else has made us feel so at home and so welcomed!! If you are looking for a real Victorian experience in Cape May with reasonable prices, check here first!

there is always room at the inn because rita does not require 2-3 night minimum in high season or any season. she has been there 2 out of 3 times we stayed but there is always someone there to accommodate. so what if the breakfast is continental. if you want full serve then you're gonna have to pay for it. do the other inns allow you to use the facilities after you check out? i've been staying in cape may for the past 20 years & i think not. if when you check out makes for a good beach day, rita invites you to use beach chairs, towels & one of the 2 showers available afterwards. you can sit on the porch & help yourself to coffee, tea, juices etc., also. and the price is pretty low compared to other inns.

We stayed at Captain Mey's over the 4th of July holiday weekend. It was our first time coming to this particular inn although we have visited Cape May numerous times. Overall our experience was great. I think this inn offers great value given how overpriced Cape May can be during the summer. Our room although very small (Peter Stuyvesant) was cleaned regularly and was quiet for sleeping. The size of the room didn't bother us since we live in a city but others may have issues with that particular aspect. The inn itself is large and charming. We loved taking advantage of the big wraparound porch in the evenings. Some previous posters have complained about the quality of the continental breakfast. In our opinion, it was a perfectly normal continental breakfast. We have stayed at inns that have offered hot dishes in the morning but here the website clearly stated what was offered and the free juices throughout the day were a nice added touch. Beach towels and chairs were complimentary and the location of the inn is ideal between town and the beach. We didn't have alot of interaction with the innkeeper but since all of our needs were met by the staff, it wasn't something that took away from our stay. When we did meet Rita at breakfast, she was warm and seemed genuinely concerned about the quality of our stay. Overall I wouldn't hesitate to stay at this inn again, the value can't be beat for Cape May.

When we arrived (couple) we were told by a housekeeper to call to check in. The number we tried did not answer. So we waited a bit and tried again. No answer. We went back to talk to the housekeeper who asked if we'd tried the number and then gave us a key after we told no one was answering the phone. She did not seem surprised. We did not interact with the innkeeper much until we were leaving. We literally saw her once during our 3 day stay and we weren't even sure who she was. All we knew was that a friendly woman called out "hi!" to use one day as we were leaving, that was the extent of it until the very end. For all we knew, she could have been another guest. It was pretty weird, as every other B & B we stayed at (and this was probably our 10th trip to Cape May) the innkeepers are a very strong presence. They greet you, ask how you are doing, give recommendations as needed.....in fact, we appreciate innkeeper recommendations, it's how we discover new restaurants and find the most interesting tours. So essentially, we felt like we were running around a big old house with hardly anyone there. It was the weirdest B&B experience ever. The guests seemed to just drift in and out, no chatting on the porch or mingling over breakfast or tea like other places. I think they too found it odd the innkeeper was hardly there. Anyway, we DID like the location, it's an easy walk into town. The house has some interesting features...it is decorated in the quintessential Victorian fashion. Our room was very comfortable. There were free juices and coffee anytime you wanted, which was a nice touch. The only other drawback I would mention is that the breakfast was pretty boring. All the other B & B's offered something special -- fresh cooked french toast, a variety of fruits, homemade muffins and breads. This place had store bought bagels and breads, some Activita yogurt and only bananas for fruit. The same stuff every morning we were there. We said something to the innkeeper (during our one and ONLY conversation with her!) and she insisted that this was standard continental breakfast at all B & B's. We said no, we had some excellent breakfasts at other inns. They made them very special. She was pretty insistant that all other B & B's serve the same kind of breakfast, essentiallly disagreeing with us. Well, if you're going to compete with the many MANY other B & B's out there, you might want to listen to what your guests have to say! We were not rude, just sharing feedback that you may want to use to better your business. In essence, we enjoyed our trip as we always do but do not think Captain Mey's is our best choice for the money.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor. It was very quiet and the room we had was spacious and comfortable.

First the good - nice rooms, great location

Never saw the innkeeper or she never introduced herself. Number on the door for "self check in" but nobody answered. A cleaning girl finally got me the key to the room.

Breakfast was stale bagels without toppings, box mix muffins and a bowl of bananas. Atrocious compared to what the other inn's offer for this price.

the location can't be beat, and the porch is wonderful, so there was something for everyone to do! there was almost NO interaction with the inn keepers, so it lacked in the B&B experience, which i missed. the room was small, but certainly sufficient.

We stayed here last summer (2013) (my intention was to write this review sooner but I didn't.) and we loved it. It is a great place to stay. It is very close to Washington Square and the beach. It also has off street parking which is great since parking is tough at this time of year. The room was comfortable and clean. The owner, Rita, is a very gracious host. The breakfast is continental, which I personally prefer since I am not a big breakfast eater. She has coffee, tea, water and juices available all day. She also allows use of the house for the day you check-out. She said "the house is meant to be used". It has this big wonderful front porch which my husband and I used the whole weekend. We would definitely stay here again.
