“Great B&B right in the heart of historic Cape May!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

My husband and I stayed here last weekend. For a last minute kid-free getaway, we had limited choices for a place to stay. Thankfully Captain Mey's had an opening. We stayed in the Queen Beatrix room, which was decorated in traditional Victorian style. The room was so quiet. We never heard any other guest. The bed was super comfy and the sheets were soft. The private bathroom was a few steps outside the room, down the hall. It was a different experience for us, and reminded us of our days in the dorm. But it was spacious and clean--> just took a little to get used to. The Inn provided beach towels, and beach chairs for our use, and even let us use them after check out on Sunday morning.

We've never stayed at a B&B, so I can't compare it to other area facilities. However, breakfast was only continental (bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, coffee, tea, juice). Since we had plans to go to the Mad Batter for breakfast anyway, this didn't matter much to us, but for some that want a traditional hot B&B breakfast, this may be disappointing.

The common spaces were beautifully decorated. We enjoyed sitting on the porch, watching the horse and carriages go by and enjoying wine. The location is 2 blocks from the beach, and 1 block from the Washington Street Mall. Couldn't have asked for a better location.

Overall, it was a great and relaxing weekend.

My cousin and our mothers stayed here in late April 2014. It was a cool and rainy few days so we really appreciated the 24-hour coffee/tea/hot chocolate! Rita was around a lot and had time for many a friendly chat; she was a wonderful hostess. Breakfast was casual, comfortable and fine. The whole place had been freshly decorated and we found the Victorian style completely charming. Short walk to beach, shopping and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The elders we traveled with were not daunted by the stairs to 2nd and 3rd floor rooms, but some migh...

We arrived at Captain Mey's Inn on July 24. We were greeted by Rita the owner. Owner and employees were pleasant and always eager to help. I particularly liked the continental breakfast because it's a little more informal and you don't have specific seating times. The fresh baked muffins were great as was the 24 hr coffee and tea. The room was spotless and comfortable. The price was reasonable compared to other B&B's. We'll definitely be back.

I debated whether to give 3 or 4 stars. The other place I stayed in Cape May -- Angel of the Sea -- was much better as far as the food and rooms are concerned, although it was more expensive.

There is nothing per se "wrong" with the Captain Mey, but I think you can do better. It certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but you could do worse.

Stayed for a long weekend and can't wait to go back. Room was very quaint and comfortable. Breakfast was delish. Loved being able to fix a cup of coffee anytime and enjoy it on the huge front porch. Perfect location in Cape May. Only a short walk to the beach, shopping, and dining.

My wife and I were in town for a wedding I was in. The location was exactly what I was looking for. I parked my car and we went by foot to all the events I needed to be at. We stayed in Capt. Johan. The room was very quaint, as well as the bathroom, but everything was adequate and most imporantly clean. We briefly saw the innkeeper, whom was pleasant, but was definitely a little different feel than other B&B's I had been to. I frankly didn't mind it, but many people look for that experience. The prices were fair and I was overall happy with my stay.

Checked in thursday june 12th and out sat june 14th--never met or introduced to this wonderful Rita other reviewers seem to be raving about. In fact, our first breakfast at Captain mey's on friday morning we were "met" by a pair of rather sullen and moody employees who did nothing to enhance our B&B experience! Other than its location, this facility lacks greatly in the B&B experience--sorry but stale bagels, hard boiled eggs and yogurt doesn't quite cut it! Room was good value and our private entrance off the 1st floor porch was a also good value but overall our experience with this facility was poor. Would not recommend nor would we ever stay at this hotel again. It's just NOT a B&B.

Room Tip: 1st floor captain mey room with private entrance is good value for ur money--if you absolutely have...
