Even though we had a patch of rough weather with Ernesto running a bit wild at the end of August, nothing could "dampen" the great time we had at The Gingerbread House in Cape May, New Jersey. It is the most charming home with all its victorian decor and antiques, and the room we had was absolutely amazing. Sitting in our own private porch was more like taking a trip back in time. The breakfast was delicious and the afternoon tea with all the home baked goodies was something to look forward to! Fred and Joan Echevarria are the warmest people and it is more like visiting old friends, they are so welcoming. Joan has great tips and suggestions--Tisha's was great! thanks Joan, and Fred is so helpful with all his little tricks to the house--the outside shower is a must do! We had to arrive a bit late and they waited for us to arrive and were so accommodating. I will be returning back as often as I can to Cape May, and the Gingerbread House is my must stay!!

Joan and Fred (the owners) were very friendly and accommodating. They made us feel like their house was our house. The B&B was absolutely beautiful. It was like stepping back in time and it is kept in mint condition but they don't mind you relaxing in their antique living room or cozy front porch. The breakfast each morning was something to look forward to. It's not the kind of food you would make for yourself. Splurge and enjoy is Joan and Fred's motto. Something different every morning and plenty to fill you up. The afternoon tea/lemonade with sweets was something to look forward after a day of sightseeing in this beautiful town or lounging on the beach. I can't wait to return to this quaint town and the kindness and warmth of The Gingerbread House!

On a last minute hunch my wife came up with the idea to travel and visit the Cape May NJ area. Since we have never been there before we went to the internet to find out about the area and what it had to offer. We bounced around the net for awhile and came upon a B+B website. This particular website shows if there are any openings when you punch in dates. It showed many properties but most of them were already booked. We saw that the Gingerbread House had an opening so we decided to call and make a reservation. When I asked if they had any openings, he began to chuckle and told me that he had just received a call of a cancellation and that it was just entered into the website as being open. It must be some kind of an omen. We booked it for two nights, Wednesday and Thursday. When we arrived, I couldn't believe how close it was to the beach and the many other activities the area has to offer. The owners were great. They really loved their home and it showed. The craftsmanship that Fred applied throughout his house was evident of that love. You have to visit it to believe what I'm saying. The relaxing night life within walking distance was wonderful. There are plenty of places to eat and browse. If you choose this place on your next stay, you will not be dissatisfied. Enough said, go explore on your own...

Good grief, what an experience!!! This was my first time staying in a B&B versus a hotel or motel and it was OUTSTANDING. First, the house itself is so picturesque that Fred and Joan should charge admission just to come in the door and see it. It has been remarkably well preserved and the decor looks like it belongs in another century. Our room was immaculate, and Fred and Joan were so accommodating that we felt like family. The breakfast was sensational EVERY SINGLE DAY and the effort that Joan puts into her recipes for each breakfast and tea time shows immensely. The location is unbeatable (around the corner from the movie theater, two blocks from Washington Sq. Mall, across the street from a bike rental, and all but overlooking the beach)! Even Penny, their sleepy little calico cat that sleeps on the porch looks like she's a little Gingerbread kitty that they placed there to complete the look! I plan on coming back as often as I visit Cape May, and I thank Fred and Joan for their careful attention to detail and their kind and generous spirit.

We stayed with Fred and Joan again at their bed and breakfast called the Gingerbread House in the historic section of Cape May, NJ. They are wonderful hosts and make you feel like you are family. We always enjoy the conversation around the breakfast table and meet a lot of great people (most of which are also return guests). The house is decorated in true Victorian fashion with personal touches everywhere. Can't wait for the next visit to Cape May!

Joan and Fred are very sweet. This is their life's work...and it shows!! Reasonable rates in an expensive town...and you're just a block from the beach! Check out the handcrafted woodwork. Don't miss afternoon (iced) tea and cookies. We'd most surely go back.

The Inn was beautiful and in great condition and at a wonderful location. The couple running the Inn are wonderful as well. They are definitely perfectionists in caring for their Inn and their customers. When we go back to Cape May, we will definitely go for The Gingerbread House.
