“Wonderful Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

The Victorian Lace Inn is a wonderful place for a weekend getaway! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay the other weekend. The staff is incredibly warm and welcoming; the food is to die for; the location is a block from the beach with easy beach access right there! It was the perfect place for our weekend getaway and would go back in a heartbeat!

Carrie and Andy are outstanding hosts. The house is beautiful and well cares for. The breakfasts are wonderful and they were accommodating to provide coffee earlier than breakfast; which is served at 9 am. They offer beach towels and chairs; making it very convenient for guests. The afternoon treats are a great reason to go back and take a little break from the day's activities. The only downside experienced was the parking. Especially in the evening, it's a struggle to find parking at a reasonably close location to the house. Be sure to have plenty of quarters for anywhere you go down by the beach or pedestrian mall for parking. If you can find a spot, most parking is free a block up from Beach Avenue.

Thank you so much for posting a review and sharing your thoughts. We are so happy that you enjoyed staying with us. Yes, sometimes parking is an issue but fortunately we do not have meters on Stockton Avenue and we are able to provide a spot for loading and unloading. Usually guests are able to find a spot (non-metered) within a block of the Inn. Hopefully the next time you visit you will be able to too! Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you again.

This place was wonderful from start to finish. I came down last weekend to celebrate my birthday, and was impressed the moment I walked inside. A beautiful old building from the 1880s, with furnishings and decor to match the atmosphere, every room was warm and welcoming. I got a tour of each room in the house, and can say that any one of them would have been perfect to stay in. Each has working fireplaces, kitchenettes, big comfy beds, and most also have a nice separate living area, and pretty views. The staff was friendly yet professional; and the homemade breakfasts tasty and plentiful. The location is probably one of the best qualities as well, being just one block off of the beach, and a few blocks out of the main part of town. Everything was within walking distance for us. Of course The icing on the cake was when I met their golden doodle, Seabee - who is kept out of the main house and bedrooms, but will greet you in the back of the house for a daily (or tri-daily) rub down! My original intent was to try out a different B&B with each future visit to the island. But I think the Victorian Lace Inn has put an end to that plan. This is the only place for us! Thanks for giving me a wonderful birthday memory!

We stay in many bed and breakfasts as we enjoy the extra special and personal experience that we most often have at an inn. This was no exception. Carrie and staff were helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and charming in every way. They were accommodating in all ways possible. We stayed in the Leitrim suite and it was charming and VERY spacious!!!! The whole house was charmingly appointed. The location was GREAT, just one block from the beach, and yet on a quiet street. The breakfasts were beautifully presented, delicious, and ample in size. There was nothing we did not like. Frosting on the cake was Seabee, their sweet and friendly B and B dog. They thoughtfully restricted him to the kitchen, rather than allow him in public spaces, but they allowed me to invade their kitchen for some great fuzz therapy. Well worth the trip from Nebraska to stay here!!! Cindy

Room Tip: If you want to do a little cooking in the evenings and relax in your "room" the Leitrim su...

Thank you so much for choosing Victorian Lace Inn. We really enjoyed having the two of you stay with us and are glad our accommodations worked well for you. Although Seabee needs to stay in the office area of the Inn, he sure did appreciate your visits. He loved the attention!

We enjoyed a lovely dog-friendly suite ( the off-season in Cape May is more pet friendly, understandably for a resort town). We particularly enjoy a suite-type room with microwave, frig, & coffee maker. The location was perfect for walking all over town (great restaurants), and the inclusive breakfast was excellent!! The owner, Carrie, and "first mate", Kristen, couldn't have been more hospitable and delightful.......we would definitely go back, with or without our dog!

Room Tip: The lower level room has a totally private and fenced-in courtyard area for a dog.

We stayed at the Victorian Lace Inn for three days April 18-21, 2014, for my birthday. We did not stay in the Inn itself, but in The Bantry Cottage. We thought the Bantry Cottage would be a good fit for us, for it was private and could accommodate four adults and a dog, and was fairly close to town. I am not saying it was a bad place to stay but please be careful if you plan to bring a pet. The cottage does have some upkeep issues, and tired décor but you can expect that in older places like this in Cape May. What I wanted to share with any guests, who plan to stay here with a pet is to BE SURE YOU MAKE CARRIE, THE OWNER, DO A WALK THROUGH WITH YOU FIRST, AND DOCUMENT ANY THING THAT MAY LOOK IRREGULAR AND INCLUDE ALL CHIPS, SCRATCHES, OR DENTS IN THE COTTAGE. We were not offered that option, and we made the mistake of not requesting that, a lesson learned! We were wrongfully accused of damage and charged for that damage, that WAS NOT done by our pet. The owner did not do a walk through with us at check in, and at the end of our stay, when we weren't there, she did her checkout out. After breakfast, on the day of checkout, she said we had a problem, which shocked us. This problem cost us $100.00. She said our dog scratched one cabinet door, not true, the door was already marred and had black paint on the lower right hand side of the door, but we were the ones to pay for its refinishing. It was a case of her word against ours, and of course she has $200.00, in cash, for a security. When she sent us the invoice, it indicated cabinet door"S", plural, for eliminating scratches and refinish. Just beware, and do not trust that you will not be charged just because you closely watched your pet and made sure you took good care of her property while you stayed there. Do a thorough inspection at check in, and document all the imperfections you see.

Hi Linda
Thank you for your review. We are very pleased that we are able to accommodate dogs and as you can see from our recent reviews, other folks have enjoyed their stay with dogs and also found the cottage to be lovely.
When you called to book, you indicated that your daughter had a dog that she might want to bring with her. I explained the dog policy and security deposit required and sent you the dog policy along with your confirmation. All guests are made aware of this policy and encouraged to check that all is in good order when they arrive. We require a deposit in order to make sure that guests bringing dogs know that their dogs must be well behaved. Our assistant innkeeper who checked you in was the one that inspected the cottage prior to your arrival. When she inspected the cottage after the dog left, she told me about the damage that was done during your stay. Two drawers and a cabinet door were scratched (we have pictures) and needed to be refinished. In the two years that we have provided dog friendly accommodations, this is only the second time that we needed to have damage repaired. The other time was an issue of stained carpet.
I think that the upkeep issues you refer to might be a leak that we had sustained due to a significant rain/storm we had a week or so before you checked in. It left a couple of ceiling tiles stained. After that rain, we called a contractor to fix the leak and replace those tiles but unfortunately, due to his own schedule he was not able to come immediately and so the stained tiles had not been addressed when you arrived. I am not sure what you meant by a "tired décor". As you can see from other recent reviews, people love the cottage. in fact, it is one of our most popular spots.
Again, thank you for your review and for the advice you gave to any prospective guests with dogs. I am sure that after reading this review and my response, anyone interested in bringing a dog with them, will respect our policy and be assured that because we are so particular, they can expect a clean and well maintained unit.
