“July 4th THE BEST old style celebration”
Reviewed 10 December 2011

Did not stay overnight. The special July 4th dinner and choir of nostalgic patriotic songs before the fireworks was just magical and highly recommended. Book t or go to the less expensive barbeque on the lawn and bring a lounging chair.

We have been traveling to Cape May for Thanksgiving for the last 5 years; the last 4 at Congress Hall. That first year our whole family loved sitting in the Brown room around the fireplace in the afternoon to enjoy hot cocoa (with homemade whipped cream), hot apple cider, or cocktails. So, the next year we fgured we might as well saty in the hotel.

We loved it and will keep going back. The ambiance is quaint, the rooms are clean, and the beds seem like magic. The location is ideal because it is in walking distance of most of the shopping and restaurants Cape May has to offer. Even in the winter it is nice to be able to sit on the grounds and see the ocean.

After Thanksgiving Christmas season begins at Congress Hall. The Winter Wonderland with the train ride for kids and hot cocoa stand are a really nice addition the last couple of years. The food in the Blue Pig is very good and we still enjoy the Brown Room, especially Friday and Saturday nights to enjoy cocktails and live music.

Congress Hall is a real gem.

Congress Hall has been beautifully restored and staying here can be really great or a bit trying. This time our room was a bit small and the ocean view was over a balcony where smoking invaded our non-smoking room. For the most part, the Staff was really great and supportive. Unlike the other guest, our inconvenience was not recognized. We do love the location and the ambience. The Christmas market was fun.

Room Tip: When requesting an ocean view, find out the location.

I have been coming to the island every year of my life. I remember Congress Hall (and most of Cape May), back in the 70s when it was not a desirable place to visit. CH seemed to have been abandoned for decades. Finally, in the 80s, CM had really turned into a gem, but CH was still abandoned, and I dreaded the year I would come back and see an empty sand lot where it had once stood. You can imagine my delight, when I saw a sign out in front in the late 90s indicating that it was going to begin going through the process of restoration. Although it opened 10 years ago, this was the first time I actually stayed there. Everything is modern and convenient, but not at the sacrifice the the Victorian charm. The process of restoring a Victorian is an ongoing one, and as soon as you think you are done, you have to re-do the first thing you started with (this is from personal experience). You can put the make up on the old gal, but every few hours, you are going to have to reapply it. Thanksgiving there was wonderful- we met several nice families with children my son's age, the staff were wonderful, and the room and ocean view was breathtaking. I think Thanksgiving at Congress Hall will be a new tradition for us!

Great location and strong customer focus. Room on third floor, facing ocean was nice and large enough. Everything was clean and there was a visible effort to maintain the place in good place. Many nice small touches.

Had two breakfasts at Blue Pig and it was solid. Nice fireplace also if you like those.

Only negative of note was light coming into room from outside lighting. Could not get the room as dark as I like for sleeping.

Overall, a very good place.

We celebrated my 60th Birthday and our friends' 40th Anniversary! It was our first time at Congress Hall and we were very pleased with our stay. 1 room's heat wasn't working well, so they got us electric radiators and had it fixed the next morning. They treated us to breakfast, for our inconvenience. We will certainly go back for another visit!

Room Tip: We had a corner room on the 2nd floor and liked the views!

In early November 2011, my wife and I attended my 3 day high school reunion at Congress Hall. We had a 4th floor room overlooking the beach and water- it was tastefully designed and very comfortable. The rennovation of Congress Hall was very apparent- the halls, the rooms, the dining and meeting areas had all been obviously refreshed and looked very good. The Staff performed very well- all of our group functions were executed with care and courtesy- we did not experience any problems. On-site parking was very convenient, as was the hotel location which was adjacent to a quaint shopping mall.
