“Nothing Spectacular”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2012

We stayed at the Montreal Inn from 7/14 to 7/19/12. There is nothing particularly great that sets it apart from every other Inn/Motel/Hotel in the area. In fact, a series of missteps met us as we arrived. We were told our room was ready by one of the clerks -- but she was then corrected by another clerk. So we waited. They indicate check-in is 2:00 but guaranteed at 4:00. That's a bit confusing --it's either 2 or 4 -- pick one. When we were ultimately given our keys we entered the room only to find it NOT clean (and the toilet not flushed!). So, back down to the desk we went.
The second floor has a sun deck/play area with miniature golf, shuffle board and ping pong. Be wary of rooms on the second floor anywhere near this deck as you will NEVER get any privacy, as folks play, exercise and sit on this deck often extremely close to your sliding door. Your morning coffee is often greeted by playing children, or others on their phones frequently wandering very near your rooms deck area. In the evening, this can become quite an annoyance if you are trying to sleep as guests often come to the deck late to play, or sit and chat (and laugh loudly).
Overall, the Montreal Inn is nothing spectacular and offers nothing more than many other locations in the area. It's ok - but don't expect to be wowed.

Room Tip: Select a room on the third or fourth floor as you will maximize your privacy. First floor is locate...

Thank you very much for your feedback. We value each and every comment regarding our property and consider each observation with the utmost appreciation. We are quite proud of the reputation of the Montreal Inn as a family destination as we celebrate our 46th season under the same family management. We are humbled that most who visit us come back again and again and again. Upon hearing that you did not feel the same way, we understand that we perhaps fell short on what we strive to consistently offer our guests, which is quality, comfort, friendliness and superb hospitality. We wish you had alerted us during your recent stay, allowing us to know your concerns then and to take corrective action to make your stay more enjoyable.

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you and everyone that this winter, during our next phase of renovations, that the concern your mentioned regarding the 2nd floor deck will be addressed. When you return, and we hope you will, we are confident you will be pleased with our response to your comments.

Thank you again for your contribution here and we look forward to your next visit to the Montreal Inn... Cape May's #1 family beachfront destination for four generations.

This was our first time at the Montreal Inn. We had a newly renovated room with ocean view. It was our first family vacation with our 10 month old. The room was absolutely spotless. You smelled the cleanliness when you walked in plus they have an air purifier. Harry's Bar & Grill was convenient for us. There was nothing like feeding our daughter her first bottle on the balcony while looking at the ocean. The staff were extremely friendly. In fact, we forgot some stuff and they are great enough to be sending it to us. Would stay here again!

Don't think we had a renovated room, but we had everything we needed and the place was clean. Hopefully beds will be replaced on renovation as they weren't the comfiest. Great sea front views from all rooms and service was friendly. Appreciated the free beach chairs on the much quieter end of the beach and happy hour at Harry's (the hotel bar) was great value and super chilled out vibe. Only complaint was that the price for the room seemed a bit over the top for what you get.

Room Tip: Rooms on floor 1 open out onto the pool deck - great if thats where you want to be, possibly not so...

We always love the Montreal Inn (we've been coming since 1990), but the last few years have been even better! For the Fourth they put on a free BBQ lunch and Springsteen tribute concert (four hours of Bruuuuuuce!), capped off with fireworks on the beach. We've just changed our reservations for next year so we can repeat the Fourth at the Montreal Inn- moving around a trip to Europe and a family reunion- but it's a CAN'T MISS!

Room Tip: all the rooms are fabulous, with ocean views!

This was our second year at the Montreal Inn. We stayed from 6/23/12 to 6/30/12, I was very happy with the extent of the renovations, last year we stayed in older rooms. The new kitchen and the baths are great and make the most of the space, however, the "diner" counter/chair set up in the living room is a little awkward and although it technically provides guests a place to eat it is not very comfortable to sit together and have a meal there.

Pros: newly renovated rooms with flat screen TVs, each room has a balcony/patio area (except for a couple of "breezeway" rooms), well-kept pool area and outdoor bar (Harry's, the attached restaurant is a nice convenience but the food is so-so) and multiple outdoor areas. The cleaning staff and the office staff were great, very professional and efficient.

Cons: Noise and outdoor space are my only complaints about the Montreal Inn. If you are sensitive to the sound of toilets flushing, the Montreal Inn may not be the place for you. I don't remember being an issue last year, perhaps the new toilets are extra powerful?

The other noise concern we experienced was closely tied to the outdoor space issue. A large group had booked all of the ground floor rooms, monopolized all of the tables outside of the pool area (that are supposed to be available to all guests) and proceeded to make a lot of noise day and night for the entire week we were there. Unfortunately, there isn't much the hotel can do about the large group, however, I do think that the poolside area could be configured differently so that the tables are not right outside the ground floor rooms, which makes it uncomfortable for other guests to use anyway. Placing a railing on the edge of the ground floor room patios or moving the walkway to behind the tables might remedy this, I'm not sure. What I am sure of is this issue bothered me enough that I am likely to look for other options next year before booking the Montreal Inn.

We stayed from 6/8-6/11-2012. Most important to me, this place is spotlessly clean!! Pool is beautiful, sparkling clean, and nicely heated....surrounded by very nice chaise lounges and patio sets. Very modern! Bar/restaurant on site. Convenient for adults yet fine to stay here w/ kids. (music is off by 10pm) Staff is super friendly & helpful. Rooms are great &, as I said, CLEAN which is most important to me in a hotel. Beach entrance is directly across the street with convenient rentals of umbrellas, chairs, chaise, cabanas...etc. We loved Cape May and want to go back.... and will definately go back to the Montreal Inn !

The only minor "cons" I can mention is that the parking spots are tight for an SUV and the A/C wasn't super cold because it was on a motion sensor to save energy (when you're not in the room or if the patio doors are open, our AC went down or off & felt stuffy. At night it also felt stuffy.)..... but it's minor compared to how wonderful the place is in general.

We had a very hard time fining anything that did not require a 3 night minimum, and this hotel does not.
The location is terrific and they have all kinds of beach stuff for your stay.
We paid $5.00 extra for two queens but just got doubles. We didn't feel like changing rooms so we just let it go. Our room was 312.
The rooms are tiny, but sufficient. It is very Motel 6-ish on the decor and amenities. Considering the price we paid ($250/nt), I would expect a little nicer furniture and quality. It has a teeny kitchenette and separate living area which would be nice if you were traveling with kids. The bathroom is about the smallest thing I have ever seen. If you were here for a week, the size of this room would get old. From the looks of other reviews, it seems that we had one of the non renovated rooms. I did not see these at all, so I can't comment. It does offer a nice balcony for watching the surf.
I would say this much, if you go, I would avoid rooms on the first floor as there is alot of foot traffic going past your room.
