“Worst Hotel I have ever stayed at”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

I stayed here about a month ago. Please take my advice, and don't stay here. Upon arrival, it took the front desk clerk 3 times to get my keys correct. Once I finally get up to my room, there were seaman stains on the couch. I called down to get my room changed, and once I got into my second room, I was shocked. Seaman stains on the bed and couch. My sister works for a hotel, and they take pride in their room keeping. It boggles my mind how a hotel could offer 2 rooms with seaman stains, as acceptable. On top of that, there was molding carpets near the bathroom.

I called down to the front desk, and explained that this was not a 3.5 star hotel as described, and if they could not provide me with a sanitary room, I wanted to check out. The front desk employee explained to me that there was no manager on duty since it was night time, (I thought in a hotel there had to be a manager on duty at all times) and that I would have to check out in the morning.

The next morning I spoke to the manager, and explained that I wanted a refund because this hotel was disgusting. He explained to me that since I stayed the night, he was unable to offer a refund. I explained to him, I had wanted to check out, and attempted to check out, but there was no manager there to authorize the early checkout!

I lost an entire day of vacation the following day searching for a new hotel. I even attempted to contact the hotel a few days later, but to no avail. I have stayed at a lot of bad hotels in my day, but I have NEVER asked to check out early, or for a refund. I got a note from priceline (the booking website I used), saying they were sorry for my bad stay, but they would upgrade my room the next time I was there. Maybe the "upgrade' means a clean room with no seaman stains or moldy carpets.

I know the manager of the hotel will respond to this saying, "we take pride in our hotel, this didn't happen" or "this guest never attempted to contact us during their stay", but you can make your own decision on what really happened. Honestly, please don't stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

Thank you for sharing your guest experience. We are disappointed that you did not enjoy the hotel as the vast majority of our guests do.

We take very seriously all Housekeeping issues and please be aware that after reading your comment the owner and GM personally viewed any of the possible issues with stained upholstery or linens. We found no such evidence or residue that would earn us the dubious title "Worst Hotel I Have Ever Stayed At".

As we have spent the winter months steam cleaning upholstery and rugs in all spaces while bringing in new linens and fluffier towels, we are active in our pursuit of refreshing the hotel at every opportunity. That includes a top of the line European key card machine that acts just as finicky on some days as a Jaguar or Maserati. We apologize for the hassle but the chinks are now mostly worked out.

If you or any other guest is unhappy with the property upon arrival there is of course no problem that we would have in graciously allowing you to check out early. We are confident that you will be the rare traveler who chooses to do so.

It was by chance that we booked into this hotel online and frankly we would have never looked in this particular area specifically!
The front desk staff is very kind and friendly! The room is clean and the bed is comfortable for the 5 nights that we stayed there! The breakfast is served in a nice ball room but the food could be better in both the quality and variety.
The location is somewhat awkward for our visit to Jersey but it is relatively close to the airport and the turnpike.
I am not sure most would find the location attractive but I would expect an indoor pool for a 3 star hotel in any case! All in all we may stay there again if the opportunity arises!

Room Tip: This is a six storey hotel and we found the 5th floor rather quiet!

Thank you for your review. We are very glad that you enjoyed staying with us for five days.

As many of our guests come to the NY/NJ metropolitan area on business they appreciate the convenience of our location, As we are near to the airport, I-95, bridges and tunnels to NYC as well as hundreds of businesses locally, the overwhelming majority of our guests will overlook the fact we do not have a swimming pool on site.

We do however have a reciprocal agreement with RWJ Fitness, which is a 5 minute shuttle ride from the hotel. RWJ have a newly constructed multi million dollar sport and swimming facility that our guests may use for a small nominal fee.

i was there in february and was quite pleased with the room i had. its nice to have a fridge there, but i forgot my sodas in it! is located by the N'J turnpike bu the noise was not a problem.
Staff was helpful and polite :).
all i want to say is, fluffier towels, but was more than enough owels and the selection of shampoo bottles and such was good, since i forgot mine at home. breakfast was good.
im coming back to the hotel soon again, since its very cheap to get around to here and there .plus i had a GREAt view to the sunset :)

Room Tip: choose the 5th floor.because of the sunsets when the weather is clear

Thank you for sharing your guest experience with us. We are very pleased to see our regular mainstream guests writing reviews on this site, such as they do in great numbers on the other hotel booking sites.

Unfortunately because of the scarcity of reviews from our mutual TripAdvisor guests who stay at our hotel, if there is a disgruntled guest the picture can sometimes look a little cloudy. We greatly appreciate the posting with your kind comments! And yes we have a new whole new stock of fluffy towels making their way into the rooms...

Just returned from a six night stay. When we first arrived we could not find parking due to a private party being held in the new bar/grill. This happened again on another night during our stay, a meeting was being held and attendees took all of the hotel guest parking spots. Desk clerk said that we could park across the street and then come back in an hour and move our car over. Really? Don't you think that someone paying for a room should have reserved parking? The rooms are the most unappealing that I have ever seen. Everything in the room looked old, worn and dusty. The ottoman in the room had stains all over it and the bed sheets were so wrinkled that it looked like it had already been slept in. My wife pulled back the sheets and found multiple long black hairs in the bed, yuck! When I checked in the supply room for fresh linens they all looked the same, wrinkled and covered with hair. The rooms had no information about hotel services, tv channels, room service, etc. When I asked at the front desk about room service I was told that it no longer existed since the restaurant was now a bar and grill, yet their website still shows the old information. The sleep number beds would have been nice, if they worked. The beds were plugged into outlets controlled by wall switches. My wife and I could never get our beds to work at the same time. We had to play musical switches to get one to work and then flip them to get the other side to work. The first morning housekeeping knocked on our door at 8:30am to clean the room (because we also had no "Do not disturb" card). We asked her to come back later. When we returned that evening our room had never been cleaned. We had a drink at "The Lucky Dublin" one night and the bartender, "Christina" was very friendly and efficient. We came back the next night for dinner at 9:30pm and was told that the kitchen was closed. The next day we tried to get a late lunch at 2pm, again everthing was closed. Breakfast is served in the morning but service ends at 8:30am every day so that service is also a waste of money unless you are an early riser. Very disappointed at the condition and service and would advise others to stay somewhere else.

We appreciate you sharing your experience with us. As we have simultaneously received a venomous expletive-filled letter from a guest citing lack of parking during the recent snows and issues with restaurant hours, we have to assume you are the same person posting here. Just more politely.

In the guest's "letter" which he sent to us he made his point clear: he was really only looking for some kind of compensation. We have been down this path before and know the game. Compensate me or I will write a bad review.

The vast majority of satisfied travelers who value our hotel for cleanliness, good service and price know this review to be biased to say the least.

We can understand anyone's frustration with reduced parking in ice and snow filled spaces, as we all have had to deal with it. But the hospitality business goes on and we have functions, corporate events and parties. The organizers, clients and patrons of those functions also have a right to be at the hotel for a few hours.

If our food service hours are inconvenient for a few, we apologize but they are tailor made for the vast majority of our guests. Including those who greatly value that we open for a hot breakfast early in the morning at 6 AM or a cold beer and steak after work. Our Welcome Book which is handed to every guest upon check-in includes menus and phone numbers for all the many local restaurants who deliver.

First of all, their website is completely out of date. The restaurant and room service that they claim they have is non-existent. They do, however, have a bar/grill called the Lucky Dublin yet you never know if they will have food or be open. Secondly, the bedrooms looked nice from first walking in, however once you fold back the sheets you may find 10-20 long black curly hairs under your sheets. The manager told us that it was valentines day weekend so the housekeeper may have had her hair down while unfortunately the entire stay I saw no housekeeper wear a hair net. The heating in our room also did not work, so instead of fixing it or sending us to a different room they put two space heaters in there without our permission and left them running all day unattended. I was furious, so they did switch us rooms however that room was pissing certain items as well like the blow dryer. Thirdly, the hotel parking is absolutely terrible. Beware you may have to drive around for thirty minutes at a time. Overall, this place had horrible customer service and I would highly recommend stating else wear. I would never recommend this place to anyone!

Thank you for sharing your views. As we made clear to these travelers we will not give in to being blackmailed by a guest where they threaten to write bad reviews if we do not give them free or greatly discounted rooms. We respectfully asked this guest to leave the property.

I booked the hotel through hotwire and it was a definitely a surprise. The beds were comfy and the free wifi was pretty smooth. Although the hotel is located next to the highway, it was not noisy at all. The front desk was really helpful when I needed to print something out. The continental breakfast in the morning was simple but not bad.
One thing to complain about. The linen on both of the beds had stains on them. The stain on one of them were even red and we hoped it was just a lipstick stain. Though It was pretty ostensible and the room service still didn't change the linen.
All in all it was a nice hotel with good service, not mention the price was pretty sweet.

Place smelled awful, all of the non smoking rooms also smelled like smoke. We were told to open the window... in winter!!! The management was awful. They refused to allow us to change rooms. Will never stay there again. We asked for a fridge, and were given one, only to find out in the AM that it was broken. the management also refused to refund us the money for the fridge, adding insult to injury. All of our food went bad!

As this was an anonymously posted review from December and there is no guest record, notated complaint or logged interaction with the Front Desk, it appears that this guest did not share any of their concerns when they stayed at our hotel. Curious to us, but nevertheless, let the future traveler be aware that we are meticulous about cleaning our rooms and not allowing smoking in any of our 110 non-smoking rooms.

Further, if a guest would like to change rooms we are always amenable and happy to please our customers.

Lastly, we recently purchased 70 new refrigerators and microwaves for the guest rooms and took out of service any pieces of equipment that were aged.
