“good location”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

This is a good location for Newark Airport. The shuttle is very efficient. There are no restaurants within walking distance but the shuttle will take you to one or the hotel will give you menus for nearby places and you can place an order. The rooms are clean but ours was in need of maintainance. The tv did not work correctly and the front desk was of no help. Also there were
loose knobs and faucets. The staff was friendly and overall a convenient and clean place to stay for a night at a decent price.

Stayed there for a few days. The day we checked in I wanted to put some of my cash and my spouse's jewelry in the safe. Guess what there are none in the hotel. Yes, that's right, people still carry cash. Don't like to use my credit or debit in a city like New York. Your numbers/pins can get stolen by way of physical stealing or cybehacking. Additionally if you go to places like chinatown or similiar you can get a better deals with cash. Anyway how is it a major hotel chain does not have any type of security for valuables?

As for Ramon, the driver, he is a fun-fact personality but, sometimes too much fun can be a little tiresome. At Newark Airport the shuttles pickup you up at P4. The mono-rail takes you there. Hampton-Inn shuttle runs every half hour. The Renassiance and the Hilton shuttles are very close to Hampton-Inn. On a few occasions I took their shuttles. It is only a minute or two walk to Hampton Inn. They run more often and bigger than Hampton. Getting back to Ramon, while waiting in his vehicle he goes inside the P4 terminal tryiing to strum up business. After about three or four minutes he then gets in his vehicle to drive back to hotel. Maybe he should bring a bullhorn or install a loudspeaker on his van. Ramon did mention to me about going to Algarve restaurant (see my review). Not sure why he had to go in with us to be seen by the management. Recommend you calling him about 15 minutes before you are ready to leave. Did not come right away. Might have gone to the airport first. The only negative thing I can say about him was telling me about Bus #62. You pick it up at Penn Station (Newark). It takes you back to the airport. There are a bunch of low-lifes, bums, drug-addicts, etc who use this bus. It goes through the raunchy side of Newark. DO NOT take his advise on using this bus. The other shuttle drivers were nice. They just do not give you as much info or as energetic as Ramon.

Okay enough of Ramon and back to the hotel. The breakfast was average to above average. Not really poor and not really super. The eggs were good. The sausage or bacon were iffy. Tasted like it came from a microwave. Did not notice if they had a stove in the kitchen. The potatos never really tasted that great. Maybe slightly undercooked. Good juice selection. Plenty of different breads to choose from. Bagels and muffins were good. There was fresh fruit every morning. Coffee was good. There was also 24 hour coffee/tea in the main lobby. They also have cereals, oatmeal and yogurts to choose from. All in all good, decent and quick-filling breakfast.

The rooms are decent size. Bathrooms a little small. TV was a little difficult to figure it. Have to go through a couple of steps to get the cable turn on. CNN news could not come on but Headline news did. Go figure. The lighting was good. Bed was comfortable. Did not notice bed bugs. The sheets and pillow cases changed daily. Shower and bath faucets worked okay. Could not figure out how the exhaust fan in bathroom worked. Some maids speak and understand English better than others. If you speak spanish you have an advantage with the maids.

Location is not the greatest. If you do not have a car then walking to the stores will not be a good option. Not a super-great neighborhood. There are stores near Algarve restaurant. Recommend you finish your meal and pickup your items at the store before heading back to the hotel in the Hampton shuttle. Front desk personnel were great. They seemed to really enjoy helping out people. Good customer-service skills.

Bottom line is I might stay here again or not. I was more impressed staying at the Hampton Inn Linden (see my review) than this one. The Linden one has a major mall behind it with pleny of restaruants. They also have security safes, shuttles to Newark Airport and train station. It is about 20 minutes from the Lindon Hampton to Newark Airport. I have noticed, recently, that there has been a increase of negative reviews at the Linden. I was there over a year ago and had not problems. Maybe it has declined since then?

I am writing this review from room 520 at the Hampton inn. I've been here for 4 days now and so far I have been very happy with everything. The hotel is right across from Newark airport making it very convenient for travelers, their shuttle service is always around or minutes away to help take you to where you need to go.
The hotel is also a few minutes away from the train station which you can take a 20 minute train ride into NYC. Even by car it isn't far from NYC, I drive a tour bus and I make it from the Lincoln tunnel to here in about 15-20 minutes traffic pending. It is a quite hotel, no party animals making noise at night or kids running around, it is very quite even though it is next to the airport the windows must be well insulated because you can't hear any aircraft. The parking is very big and spacious and there is room for tour buses as well.
The rooms are beautiful, very clean, spacious, nice furniture and especially this desk I'm using right now to write this review from my laptop. The wifi signal is strong, clear and fast. My room looks like it was newly renovated, everything is flawless and it even smells like new. The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating. The security guy Felix is a great guy and always willing to help you with whatever you need, The shuttle driver Ramon is a great guy too, very friendly and knowledgeable with directions and transit information, please don't forget to take care of this man if he gives you a ride.
The breakfast was not bad, Hampton inns are not known for their breakfast but I would say its average.
The hotel isn't far from Newark at all! And as I mentioned earlier it's only 15-20 to the Lincoln tunnel if you're going to NYC if there is no traffic. The only thing is that there isn't too many places to eat around here therefore delivery is a good option, the reception has menus from various places to help you out. However if you don't mind leaving the hotel there are a few nice places a little north of the hotel in Newark with the exception of a place called Don pepe which I as I wrote in the review I gave it on TripAdvisor "Not even Chef Gordon Ramsay can save this place".
I have stayed in a few Hampton Inn's due to my work and I must say this is my favorite one and i would recommend it to anyone. It is also very accommodating with group stays, I brought a group of 50 people from Toronto Canada here on board my tour bus and everyone was happy with their stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Depending on the type of GPS you are using if you put in the address it might tell you it's a li...

This property shows some age. However, the room was clean and as usual, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is typical Hampton Inn fare, but as long as there is hot sauce, I'm good to go. Location might be a bit sketchy if you have kids or want to go for a jog, but there are some decent restaurants in a pretty close radius. Of course, you're in New Jersey, so it will always be a 5 mile trip to go a mile. Overall, I would recommend if you need to be close to the airport.

Our travel home was interrupted by weather. We picked the Hampton Inn near the Newark airport based on other reviews.

All the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, especially Ramon Cruz the shuttle bus driver. Ramon went out of his way be informative about the area and to look after us. Thanks Ramon.
