Comparing this to other value hotels I've stayed at, there seems to be some room for improvement. At this price point people are generally expecting only a clean, safe room, with basic amenities that function and work. So that being said here is how my recent experience compared to that.
First the good; Check in was quick and efficient, the staff was generally pleasant and helpful. The bed, was comfortable enough and the smell and appearance of the room was okay. It was also large and spacious considering the price of the room. Water pressure in the shower was good. The carpet was dingy and needs to be replaced but that aside, we couldn't find much else upon checking in to complain about. Unfortunately though we started to notice some issues.
This is a big spot for nearby wedding venues and so that being said you are going to get some rowdy crowds. I am usually the last person to stop people from having a good time but at 3AM we were woken up by screaming and people running up and down the hall, slamming doors etc. Okay like I said, people coming back from a wedding and having fun but we called the desk and told them to please send someone up to tell them to either take it elsewhere/downstairs or to at least just stop slamming the doors and banging the wall. Had to call 3 times. The second time the person at the desk said " well before we go up, we want to make sure it's the right room- so thats why we haven't gone yet" (I had already told them the room number next to us) The third time I said, when I called, "Do I need to call the state police and have them come here?"-shortly thereafter the noise stopped so someone finally had the motivation to actually go up to the room and tell them to knock it off.
Next, the air conditioning unit made strange noises and was working inconsistently. Ultimately it began to drip onto the carpet below. It got really bad late at night and we were too tired to deal with it so we just opened the window and fortunately it was cool enough outside to tolerate sleeping without AC. We told people in the morning the next day and they said okay we'll look at it later like it was no big deal.
Wi-fi is free but it's terrible. No speed, low connectivity and basically it's useless. The TV also did not work upon arrival and we realized it was because of a loose wall outlet-after switching the plug to a different socket we had no issues, but clearly lack of care.
Location was on a secondary highway which although wasn't scenic, it had easy access to some local shopping, starbucks, the major highways etc so that was good. Shuttles to and from wedding venues etc also very helpful. The breakfast in the morning was certainly satisfactory considering it was included. Decent coffee, breads/pastries and an omelet station with fresh eggs. Restaurant next door is extremely mediocre -don't bother-take a trip "off campus" for dinner.
If there was a courtyard Marriot nearby this place would get slaughtered. At the end of the day for what you pay I wasn't expecting much, but this experience was underwhelming. Many of these things are very fixable as well with some modest capital investment.
