“Very Good Food!”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

The only bad news about this restaurant is that you often have to wait because it is quite small. The good news is, it is worth the wait for the exceptional food served here. You have to BYOB and there is a perfectly good liquor store just around the corner where you can get something of your choice before placing your order.

This restaurant is an absolute joy to visit with its perfect atmosphere and quality standards. You are encouraged to share different dishes so that you can have a taste of a variety. The staff here are knowledgeable about the menu items and the ingredients they contain. Service is constant and seems to be a priority. 30 Acres is a great cozy venue with a very creative menu. Great place to eat.

“9.5 out of 10”
Reviewed 22 June 2013 via mobile

We were pleasantly surprise when we decide to visit that relatively new joint. Local is fresh and relax, waiters very kind and effecient. As for the food, we were impressed by the quality. There is a chef at work in the kitchen! For appetizers, we had first the raw flake, which was amazing, comparable to any 5 stars restaurant in NY! The second appetizer was the grilled octopus which was also excellent , best one that I had in several years. We shared an entree which was a pasta dishe and was also excellent. I usually do not like to order pasta at restaurant , but this one was top. So 3 out 3 got our 10! We had to try a dessert... We try a "pot de creme" which was tasty, but we took away some points for presentation, hence our overall rating of 9.5. We cant wait to go back to try other plates. Menu is limited, so they may not have several repeat customer. Atmosphere is relax , crowd is young and it is a little noisy. Felt like it was a family run joint, with at least 3 different people catering to us. With wine, our dinner stand at $45 pp.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed 19 June 2013

Would not go again. Too pricey. No longer BYOB. Now $20 corkage fee. Menu has interesting-sounding items, and they are artfully displayed when they are served. But they were not really that tasty. For the price, I expected melt-in-your mouth, delicious food. Four of us dined there. Best we had was the octopus starter ($15). Two pasta dishes ($16-$18) definitely only so-so. Two of us had the lamb, which was probably the best thing we tasted there ($32). Desserts - eh. Good but not wonderful. ($8-$12). They do use local products, which we appreciate.

“Best Restaurant in Jersey City”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

In the six years I've lived in Jersey City, I've yet to have a great meal. Sure I've had amazingly HUGE slices of pizza, three or four tasty burgers and more overpriced mediocre brunches than I can count, but as a whole my husband and I have been incredibly underwhelmed by the culinary options and lackluster service in such an otherwise hot neighborhood.

Kevin and Alex Pemoulie have created a food oasis on Jersey Avenue with their debut restaurant Thirty Acres. Everything on the menu is seasonal andperfectly portioned so you leave feeling satisfied but not like you need a stretcher to get out the door. The Chef encourages sharing plates which is what we did when we had dinner last week. Favorites included oysters with a beet and horseradish puree, carrot salad and beef chuck flap. We found a little room at the end for the lemon bar which had the perfect combo of sweet, tart and buttery goodness and the coffee pot de creme.

The menu is subject to change depending on what ingredients are in season so I'm really interested to see a menu that will keep changing with what's freshest at the time.

30 Acres is currently BYOB but there is a terrific neighborhood liquor store a few doors down that has a nice selection of wine and beer.

Finally, the service only added to our experience. How refreshing to have a server who actually knows what the ingredients are in the food and doesn't have to go ask the chef. Our server was attentive but not smothering. Our water glasses stayed filled and our beers kept coming at exactly the right time. Kudos to Thirty Acres for making good service a priority.

We will be back.

“Amazing food, relaxed atmosphere”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

This past weekend 7 of us went to 30 Acres and had one of everything on the menu. The food was really excellent and beautifully presented. It is also very reasonably priced for such high quality and is a BYOB! Some real stand-outs were the raw lamb appetizer (never had it before!), the tuna appetizer and, believe it or not, the carrot salad (wow!). As for entrees the pastas were great, especially the vegetable dish. Gnocchi is not usually my favorite but the gnocchi with lobster was really great. It didn't taste like a blob of starch like at most places. The pheasant was also really wonderful. it was tender and had a nice smokey flavor. Don't forget dessert! the chocolate pot de creme (mocha) was so good I didn't want to share.

The bad news is the place is on the small side so you may have to wait for a table!
