We stayed here for the first time on 4/3/09. I had tried to get reservations in May of 08, but it was booked. I travel to New York City atleast twice a year (once to see my Yankees play ball and once to shop at Christmas). I have stayed in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens and Jersey City was the easiest to get into the city from. The PATH is right up the road and a few minutes to the city. The parking was free and my husband said we will be staying here again next time we visit. The hotel we stayed in on Saturday night cost twice as much.

my partner and i stayed here for 10 nights in april 2008. we travelled from Australia and were looking for a place near/in NYC that wasnt too pricey so that we could spend our money on touristy stuff. i did lots of research to hunt for a great deal and found this place read rave reviews and it also was a great price too!! holland motor lodge is located pretty much on the freeway heading towards holland tunnel into NYC but we didnt even notice that from our room. it is 3 stories high (from memory) and our room faced the carpark on the first floor (which was facing away from the highway). it was a large room with king size bed, tv, bar fridge, microwave - i was suprised at the size of the room!! however the bathroom was small (but clean and practical) in comparison. the room was very clean, comfortable with older style furnishings that have been well maintained and look in new condition. the bathroom was a little old fashioned in design, but had great hot water shower pressure (from memory there was no ventilation in our bathroom).

the hotel serves pastries, doughnuts and coffee and tea from morning until night - which was great to grab on the way out...or after a long day grabbing a sugary pick-me-up on the way in.

if you walk across the highway there is a line of shops (about a 5 minute walk, the hotel provides a map of directions for shopping, transport, etc) including a grocery store and laundrymat. if you walk along the highway towards the river, there is the PATH railway station (Pavonia/Newport - from memory) which is only a 10-15 minute walk, which what looked to be a small business district with restaurants (i would recommend the indian and mexican), there is also a large shopping complex that you walk straight past with sears, etc. The PATH can take you back to Hoboken or right into World Trade Centre station.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for people travelling for long/short periods of time and dont want to pay more money to stay right in NYC. If i was to stay in NYC again i might stay in the city (just to avoid the commune in and out of the city every day, it can get a little tiring).

However, i did like "'escaping the city" at the end of every day to a more quite and not so hectic area. The walk from PATH back to the hotel is a little dark, and there are street lights, but i never felt scared to walk back to the hotel.

there was also a computer and printer set up in the small lobby that was available to all guests.

A very cozy place, with big rooms and nice coffee at the entrance. Staff very friendly and the manager Quentin was wonderful! Helped us in all our doubts. From the hotel to the path (the transportation that takes you to the subway that takes you to Manhatan) walking is 10 to 15 mins. In the cold weather was a challenge for me... But overall the good price make it worth it.

The location is great...just a few minutes walk to Newport Mall for PATH station to go NYC. The room is cheap, clean and spacious. Love the daily breakfast served at the lobby. Free parking. The staff is friendly. There free wifi available. There is 1 PC at lobby for guest's. Worth it! Love it! Will definately come back!

We were looking for a budget trip to New York City and realised the best place to stay would be right across the river. However, we did not want the travel time from the city centre to be very long. From that perspective, this hotel has a near perfect location. It's situated right in front of the Hollant tunnel. A car ride into NYC takes 15 mins . The PATH train station is about 10 mins walk from the hotel. The hotel staff provides maps and directions
The hotel itself is no great shakes . The rooms are a little stuffy. However , rooms are provided with mini fridge, microwave and safe which is pretty cool. The breakfast is not a big spread but ok to fill you up . The lounge is quite small though and could get crowded. There's a free internet service which is very helpful.
All in all, not a bad package if budget is what you're looking for.

I rented a car at the airport and drove to the hotel where we enjoyed free parking and the option of using the PATH train if we so desired. It was great to have the car handy to visit friends in New Jersey, but also when we were tired of walking so much in the city. We went to see some Broadway shows and preferred to drive in at night, taking advantage of lower priced evening parking in the city. We always felt very safe, even late at night. The place is nothing fancy, but I have to give it five stars for excelling at comfort, convenience, cleanliness and economy. Staff was friendly and helpful and housekeeping did a great job.

This place is a great place to stay when visiting NYC on a budget. The room was clean and we could see NYC from our window. Also it is within walking distance to a large mall, other shops and restaurants.

I found the front desk to be very friendly, and answered any questions we had.
