“what a shame”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

We live locally and understand the Lambertville restaurant scene. At a time when relative newcomers are setting a high bar (Brian's) and others are trying (Cross Culture,L'Floret),others are becoming less consistent (Hamilton Grill) but one is clearly sliding backwards-Lilly's.We arrived for an early dinner ,place was almost empty , the "non smiling" hostess ignored the information that we had a reservation but seated us outside as requested. We were three and wanted a corner table that could seat four-consternation from the hostess and obvious "eye conversation"with ? supervisor about potential loss of a "cover" before we were "allowed" to sit at the table of our choice. Now the food-special appetizer was a gazpacho, bowl of what tasted like canned tomato juice with some cut up vegetables.Given where we are in the season local tomatoes are not in season so cannot expect the real thing so not sure why this concoction was a "special".Then crab cakes-heavy,deep fried and light on crab meat.Served with a watery coleslaw and tasteless sliced avocado.Decent steak but overcooked asparagus. All the characteristics of a tourist trap akin to the many other poor options across the river in New Hope.

“Wonderful food, great outdoor dining”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

I had lunch here today with my husband and a friend of ours. We each got a different meal, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. My husband and I have eaten here before and we've always had great food and service.

The service today was impeccable. We chose to sit outside, and our table was a little bit in the sun. After we sat and were served our drinks another group (that had an umbrella at their table) was getting up. Our server let us switch tables without blinking an eye.

They have fabulous desserts, which we skipped today, but have had in the past. If you're able to, be sure to leave room for dessert, you won't be sorry. After dessert you can walk around Lambertville and then across the bridge into New Hope to get rid of some calories. They are both great walking towns.

Lilly's is a BYOB, which is a great savings if you enjoy wine with your meal.

I highly recommend Lilly's on the Canal and will definitely go back.

“Lilly's on the Canal”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

One of my "go to" restaurants in Lambertville, NJ. Food has been consistently good, an eclectic menu, with a reasonable level of interestingness. Reasonably priced, you can BYOB to keep costs down. They have a downstairs, upstairs and garden eating area behind the building and on the canal. Good weather go out, otherwise, upstairs is more pleasant for conversations. Service is uneven, sometimes very good, sometimes slow. Standout is pork chops with a side of eggplant fries.

“Great option after long bike ride”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

We had just done a 32 mile bike ride and had gone to another restaurant for a couple of drinks. We'd never been to Lilly's but had biked past it, and it always looked very lively so we decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, being a Saturday, you needed reservations, but we were able to sit at the "bar", which was actually right next to the open kitchen area. It wasn't the most comfortable seating, but the food definitely made up for it. I had the chicken with proscuitto and my husband had the fish tacos. Both were delish. We also split the leek potato soup, which was really good (and I'm not a soup eater). The service was very pleasant as well. Sitting outside was not an option as it was sporadically sprinkling out, but that would have been a great option (although I am sure you still would need reservations. The only downside is the only wine they serve is NJ wine, which anyone from NJ knows, pretty much stinks. Definitely a great place to eat and excellent service, but if you come make reservations and BYOB!!

“Great food and service”
Reviewed 26 April 2014 via mobile

We had a great dinner at Lilly's. We were seated promptly at a table next to a window overlooking the canal. Our waitress, Judy, greeted us and opened our wine without delay. Lilly's is BYOB.
We enjoyed our appetizers and meals. The clam chowder and beet salad was a great start to our meal. My chicken prosciutto was delicious. My wife had the Coq Au Vin, and she loved it.
We ended the meal with Lilly's famous Coconut Cake. Yum!!!
Judy was very nice and provided great service.
The restaurant had soft background music so you could hear yourself have a conversation.
There is limited parking. We were able to get a parking spot without issue, but it was not that crowded tonight.
