My husband and I totally love the Shakespeare Theatre in Madison, New Jersey! This is the second year we have had a subscription for the season (6 plays) and we've never subscribed to a theatre before. Be aware that only one or two plays are actually Shakespeare plays. Some are plays we know, like "Don Quixote", a musical, and "Oliver Twist", which was not done as a musical. Both were unbelievable! Others we had never heard of like "The Liar"- hysterical - all done in rhyming and the play we just saw, "Fallen Angels", by Noel Coward. The biting humor and comedy was so spot-on, we were laughing the entire time! In addition to the incredible acting, the sets, the costumes are also amazing! DON'T MISS going to this intimate theatre, where every seat is a good one. You will be hooked!!

We're so glad you and your husband enjoyed your visits! We hope you'll return again this season; there is plenty of classic comedy on the bill.

Went for the as you like it show through groupon on a hot summer afternoon weekend. Loved the cast, story and the play. Open air theater brought our own picnic food while enjoying the play. I highly recommend it.

The Shakespeare Theatre is on the campus of Drew University, my graduate school. The acting is always superb, as are the sets and costumes. Tickets are relatively reasonable, but there is really not a bad seat in the house, as it is a relatively small theatre. My husband and I have gotten season tickets two out of the three years we've lived in the area. There is parking available right behind the theatre, but Drew's campus is also only about a 15-20 minute walk from the Madison train station for those who prefer public transport. This is definitely a date-worthy event or a great evening/afternoon for anyone who loves live theatre.

This theater is located about 8 minutes from our home and we go there frequently since their productions are generally high quality and incredibly professional. You don't need to go to NYC to see great theater. Bonnie Monte, the artistic director, is an amazingly talented person and is apt, able and innovative.

The Shakespeare Theater of NJ is one of NJ's best kept secrets. It's location is in the lovely town of Madison, NJ in the heart of Drew University at the FM Kirby Theatre. The town has a convenient and eclectic array of eateries for pre-theatre dining. The season includes six performances on the Mainstage and a very popular summertime, out-door performance at the Greek styled amphitheater located on the grounds of St Elizabeth College just up the road. Tickets are affordable which in turn makes it Family Friendly. The out-door nighttime performance is Pure Magic! The mainstage theatre itself is very intimate and comfortable. The performances are just Simply Brilliant with Very Accomplished Actors. You dont have to thru the expense of NYC to find fine theatre. This is theatre at its Absolute Best. Bravo!
