“Peaceful Oasis in Northern New Jersey”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

This is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic, take some photographs or paint. They are open dawn to dusk. There is no charge. Don't miss the Wisteria in bloom in the spring. They also have family activities, kids classes, Tai Chi and Yoga, a plant sale, concerts, etc.

“Small but calm, relaxing and suprising find”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

These gardens are set in a small one block radius with care taken to the grounds. It is free and open to the public, year round, dawn till dusk. It's very zen like, calm and a great place to relax and re-charge. Nothing big or ostentatious, just quiet and restful. If you need a place to enjoy nature and think (or not think). Rooms in the house are available to rent out for workshops, lectures, dinners and weddings, pretty much anything you can think of on a smaller scale. They also offer many classes, presentations and family programs.

“Classical Beauty in Park Setting”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

The grounds are the remains of a huge estate owned until relatively recently by a prominent local family. Towering trees, formal and informal gardens insulated from nearby streets, lovely graveled walks and delightful views make for a delightful respite from a hot day. The inside of the house is not generally open to the public, but the facade is gorgeous, with huge wisteria growing around and over a large back patio.

“A little piece of green heaven in Montclair”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

I come here all the time, especially if I have some free time on a weekday. It's beautiful and unbelievably peaceful! On occassion, there are lectures, concerts, etc. which require an attendance fee but otherwise roaming the grounds is free and 365 days a year until dusk. I adore this neighborhood gem and what it gives the community

“Nothing like it anywhere!”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

This is an equisite public garden! All the vegetation is well labeled; there are benches everywhere; walking through it is a pleasure. WHen the wisteria and rhododendrums are in bloom in May it is not to be missed. Take a book or a friend and just sit on one of the benches and lose yourself in the natural beauty of it. It's open every day and there's no charge, which is really nice.
