Once again I find myself writing about this property. The most important issue for all to remember is that this hotel is not corporate; meaning it is owned independently an not under the strict guidelines as a corporate hotel would be.
The owners are efficient. They try their very best to accommodate every guest. Weddings seem (and are) their biggest draw for clientele. Even on any given weekend there are three weddings booked at the property. The serving of guests for the receptions are "sold" to another catering facility.
Basically, the property only accommodates the guests, provides "bus" service (yellow school bus) to and from the venue, and makes sure the "Blue Room" remains open when parties return. As a travel agent and seasoned hospitality professional who has monitered this property (and booked) for many years, The Wyndham does well.
There seems to be a large employee change, as tenured front of the house agents come and go.
Additionally, the hotel is in desperate need of upgraded decor, maintenance (which is poor) and simple areas of general attention. Lamp shades which do not have fennials, carpets that are stained, inconsistent amenities in EVERY ROOM, and management not present on the floor(go to a Westin hotel and see), greeting and talking to guests all the time, a housekeeping DIRECTOR who should not be overwhelmed, and the most importantly- - - housekeeping staff that does not SLAM the doors. Even guests should be told not to slam their door as the sound travels everywhere when this happens.
The ninth floor is the Concierge Level, only open Monday thru Friday for continental service. Although indicated and extremely misleading to any guest, new or prior, the ninth floor level (key access only) DOES NOT HAVE NOR EVER HAS complimentary finger sandwiches or cocktails. The hotel warrants this, as on the weekends the house is full, guests on that level expect the room to be open and it is not.
I love this hotel; it needs so much tweaking - - - just a little bit, and all would be fine.
The mattress need to be turned, rotated, and please who ever thought that the ergonomic chairs would be an advantage they are not. Pull out beds are in disrepair, dated and painfully upsetting to open. Another important note: refrigerators are not in any rooms - - maybe some here and there, and if you request one you are billed. NO MINIBARS. Your account is pre billed for incidentals, but how much HBO or porn (forvive me) can a guest watch?
The pool is fine; the best in New Jersey with the deepest going to nine feet. This, grandfathered as newer properties are forbidden to have this level of water.
Should you wish to have a great visit in Mt. Laurel and take a chance, I can suggest The Wyndham. Joseph on the desk (evenings) and Monique during the day (runs a tight shift and multi tasks well) are superb managers. I personally have encountered several guest related occurrences with Monique and she had been the true defination of a well trained hospitality professional.
I will always return to The Wyndham, especially since the property is very green and now has its own electric and alternative fueling availability for your vehicles.
Please, owners when you read this~ ~ ~ hire a professional chef, and don't pinch on not employing a Food and Beverage Director. Bartenders should not have carte blanche on what they do. Its noticed by that little Texas man who looks like nothing, but owns restaurants and has millions. If only owners could hear what is said. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
